Yes, Kodi 18.5 “Leia” was an official release, but it is not the latest Kodi version. Kodi released 18.5 on November 17, 2019. Kodi’s release table identifies 18.9 as the final Leia version and lists 21.3 “Omega,” released December 13, 2025, as the current version in the table checked. Use 18.5 only when you need to reproduce an older setup or address a problem specific to that build; otherwise choose Kodi’s current stable release.

What Kodi 18.5 changed
Kodi described 18.5 as a stability and usability point release rather than a feature-focused upgrade. Most changes matter primarily to users who encountered the affected problem.
Interface and playback
- Fixes for Estuary interface details.
- Corrections involving external subtitles and UPnP archives.
- Improvements to queue, “play next” and resume behavior.
Live television and add-ons
- Fixes for PVR and electronic programme guide handling.
- Corrections to add-on settings behavior.
- Updates affecting Shoutcast and logging.
Platform-specific fixes
- Android windowing, secure decoding and SDK-version changes.
- iOS device support plus touch and display behavior.
- macOS rendering fixes.
- Build-documentation updates.
The wider Kodi v18 line also developed the Games interface and RetroPlayer game-client support, changed binary add-on management, added Python 3 support while retaining Leia-era add-on compatibility expectations, and supported Blu-ray Disc Java menus when a system Java runtime was available. Kodi’s v18 changelog is a condensed summary, not a complete inventory of every fix.

Which installer should you choose?
Windows, macOS or Linux computer
Choose the installer or package matching your operating system and processor architecture. If you are installing solely to use Kodi normally, the current stable release is the safer choice; select 18.5 only for a documented compatibility requirement.
Android device
Kodi’s v18 FAQ states that Android 5.0 or later is required for Kodi v17 and later. That Android requirement should not be generalized to Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, tvOS, webOS or Raspberry Pi, which have their own platform requirements.

Raspberry Pi
Use the Raspberry Pi build intended for your board and operating-system image. Kodi does not require a particular Raspberry Pi model, case or remote simply to download the software; hardware suitability depends on the image, architecture and media-decoding needs.
iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or webOS device
Use the platform-specific option shown on Kodi’s official download page, if an appropriate historical build is offered. Do not assume that a Kodi 18.5 package exists for every current device or distribution.

Before upgrading or installing an old build
- Back up Kodi first. The official v18 guidance recommends backing up settings before upgrading.
- Check add-ons and operating-system support. Legacy builds can conflict with newer operating systems, repositories or Python requirements.
- Download from Kodi’s official page or its linked mirrors. Verify that the file corresponds to your platform and architecture.
- Install according to the platform instructions. Kodi’s v17-to-v18 guidance says installing over the previous version usually retains settings and the library, but platform-specific instructions still apply.
- Keep the backup until playback and the library have been tested. If the older build causes problems, restore the backup and move to the final Leia release or a current stable version.
Does Kodi include movies or television?
No. Kodi is free, open-source media-center software; the official Kodi download contains no movies, television programmes, subscriptions or preloaded content. You supply media from local or remote storage, discs or another carrier that you own or are otherwise entitled to use. Kodi permits third-party plug-ins, but Team Kodi does not endorse using them to access paid content without paying.

Choose 18.5 when you are matching a legacy system, diagnosing an issue that the 18.5 fixes address, or maintaining an environment whose add-ons were built for that release. If you simply want Kodi, install the current stable version shown on Kodi’s official release page. If you specifically need Leia, 18.9 is the final Leia release and is generally a more complete choice than 18.5, subject to your add-ons and device compatibility.
