iScanner’s Edge Repair can reconstruct damaged or obscured edges in a scan, including corners affected by staples, folds, fingers, nearby objects, or a slight turn. To use it, scan a page or import an existing scan, then choose AI Refine and Edges. iScanner announced the feature for iOS in September 2025 and said Android support was coming; a current Android release is not confirmed by the official materials cited here.
What iScanner Edge Repair does
Edge Repair is a post-scan option in iScanner for restoring parts of a document image that are missing, damaged, or obscured around the edges. AIBY Group announced it on September 24, 2025, describing an on-device neural network that detects imperfections near document corners and reconstructs affected areas pixel by pixel. The company named folded, obscured, stapled, and slightly turned documents as intended use cases. AIBY Group’s announcement and iScanner’s guide to fixing cropped scan edges also describe repairing staple-affected scans without first detaching the staple.
The feature aims to make a page image more complete; it does not establish that reconstructed pixels exactly reproduce missing original text, marks, or paper details. iScanner’s August 2026 guide says its model was trained on more than 100,000 document images. That is a company-reported training-set description, not an independent accuracy rate or proof that every repair is correct. The guide does not publish controlled performance results.
How to repair a scan’s edges
- Scan or import the page. Capture the document with iScanner’s camera, or open an existing scan in the app.
- Open the refinement controls. Tap AI Refine, then select Edges.
- Work through the pages. For a multi-page scan, iScanner’s instructions say you can move between pages within the same repair screen. Check each affected page rather than assuming one adjustment applies equally to the whole document.
- Inspect the result before using it. Compare the repaired edge with the paper original or a separate image when accuracy matters. Keep the original, especially for legal, financial, archival, or other records where exact wording and markings are important.
The workflow is documented in iScanner’s scan-edge guide and its guide to scanning stapled documents. Reviewing the output is a prudent check, not an accuracy guarantee from the company.

Can you scan stapled documents without removing the staple?
That is one of Edge Repair’s intended uses. iScanner says users can scan stapled pages and repair the affected corner afterward, rather than detaching the staple first. The approach may also help when a finger, fold, nearby object, or slight rotation interferes with the edge of a captured page.
Edge Repair is not the only way to handle a staple-bound document, and the alternatives involve different compromises:

Which devices support Edge Repair, and does it cost extra?
AIBY Group’s September 24, 2025 announcement said Edge Repair was available on iOS and that Android availability was expected soon. iScanner’s August 2026 guide explains the feature and its workflow but does not confirm Android support. The launch statement is dated, so check the current app listing or the feature menu on your device rather than assuming the Android version includes it. The launch announcement and the later guide are the available platform references.

Treat Edge Repair as an image-restoration aid, not as evidence that missing content has been recovered verbatim. If the obscured area contains a signature, number, handwritten note, seal, or other material whose precise appearance matters, retain the paper original and compare it with the result. A visually plausible edge alone cannot verify what was actually present in a cropped or covered section.

iScanner product director Matt Svetlak said the model was trained on more than 100,000 images and that it helps documents look sharp and professional. This is the company’s product claim, not an independently measured outcome. Neither the announcement nor the later guide provides a repair success rate or controlled comparison. AIBY Group’s announcement attributes the statement to Svetlak.
