The official codename is Oracular Oriole. Canonical uses an adjective-plus-animal naming pattern for Ubuntu releases, and “Oracular Oriole” identifies the 24.10 release specifically.

How long Ubuntu 24.10 was supported
Ubuntu 24.10 had a stated nine-month support lifespan, as documented in the Ubuntu 24.10 release notes.
Ubuntu lists 10 July 2025 as the end of standard support, and the Ubuntu Release Team confirmed that the release reached end of life on that date in its end-of-life announcement. Systems still running Oracular Oriole should be migrated to a supported Ubuntu release; do not treat old 24.10 repositories or packages as covered by current security advisories.

What the name means for users today
If you are identifying an old installation, “Ubuntu 24.10,” “Oracular,” and “Oracular Oriole” refer to the same release. Because it reached end of life in July 2025, a fresh installation should use a currently supported Ubuntu version rather than 24.10. Canonical’s release list records the version’s lifecycle status.
