Newegg remains the merchant of record, so the retailer—not PayPal or Perplexity—continues to sell and fulfill the order.
What the Newegg–PayPal–Perplexity partnership does
Announced by Newegg on November 26, 2025, the arrangement connects Newegg’s product catalog and order systems to PayPal’s agentic-commerce services. That allows eligible technology products to appear when someone asks Perplexity for a product recommendation and, where supported, lets the shopper buy without leaving the conversation.
The roles are distinct:
- Newegg provides the products, catalog data, pricing, fulfillment and customer relationship. It remains the merchant of record for transactions that originate in an AI shopping environment.
- PayPal provides wallet credentials, account linking, tokenized payment, passkeys, fraud screening, dispute handling and eligible purchase or buyer protection. It also coordinates checkout-related receipts, tracking and support in the Perplexity flow.
- Perplexity provides the natural-language discovery and shopping interface where recommendations, product cards and eligible in-chat checkout are shown.
In practical terms, this is commerce infrastructure rather than a new Newegg store. The AI interface helps you find an item, while the existing retailer still supplies and fulfills it.
Can you buy Newegg products inside Perplexity?
PayPal’s March 13, 2026 guide describes a rollout to users in the United States on Perplexity’s web and desktop experiences. Mobile support was listed as coming soon. The experience also depends on participating merchants and eligible products, so a Newegg item may appear in ordinary search results without being available for in-chat checkout.

The first PayPal–Perplexity announcement, dated May 14, 2025, targeted U.S. Perplexity Pro users and described purchases, travel bookings and ticket purchases through PayPal or Venmo. PayPal’s Instant Buy launch announcement on November 25, 2025, named Newegg alongside Abercrombie & Fitch, Ashley Furniture, Fabletics and Adorama as participating examples. Availability can change by account, merchant, product, device and country.
How PayPal Instant Buy works in Perplexity
The current documented flow is conversational, but it still gives you a chance to review the merchant and order details before authorizing payment.

- Ask for what you need. Enter a natural-language request in Perplexity, such as a request for a particular computer component or other technology product.
- Open Shopping. Select the Shopping tab when it is available for the request.
- Review product cards. Cards can show an image, price, estimated delivery date and merchant name. Check that the merchant is Newegg and that the item and delivery information meet your needs.
- Select an eligible item. A product that supports in-chat checkout presents an Instant Buy or Buy with PayPal option.
- Authenticate. Sign in with saved PayPal credentials or use a passkey, depending on the account and device.
- Confirm the purchase. PayPal tokenizes the payment and uses saved shipping details where applicable, then displays confirmation.
- Follow the order. PayPal can provide the receipt, order tracking and support information while Newegg handles fulfillment.
Instant Buy is the streamlined option designed to complete the transaction in the conversation. Buy with PayPal uses the familiar PayPal authorization step. The exact buttons and prompts may vary as the rollout changes.
Who is responsible after checkout?
Newegg remains the seller and merchant of record. That means Newegg supplies the item, processes fulfillment and remains the commercial party connected to the order. PayPal is the payment and identity intermediary rather than the retailer, and Perplexity is the discovery interface rather than the seller.

This distinction matters when checking product specifications, delivery promises, returns or stock. Review the merchant name and order confirmation, and use the support path shown for that transaction. PayPal’s role can make payment, receipts and tracking easier to access, but it does not turn every Newegg policy into a PayPal policy.
What protections does PayPal provide?
The partnership uses PayPal’s fraud detection, tokenized payment, dispute-resolution process and eligible purchase or buyer protection. These safeguards are not unlimited: eligibility, exclusions and claim requirements depend on the transaction and the applicable PayPal terms. A protected payment also does not guarantee that every product, shipping issue or merchant policy is covered.
- Confirm the merchant and item before authorizing payment.
- Keep the PayPal confirmation and Newegg order details.
- Use the transaction’s stated support and dispute channels if a problem occurs.
- Check the applicable protection terms rather than assuming every purchase qualifies.

What the launch numbers mean
PayPal said in 2025 that it had more than 430 million active accounts across approximately 200 markets. That describes the potential reach of PayPal’s network, not immediate access to Perplexity checkout for every account or country. Partnership releases also attributed more than 150 million questions per week to Perplexity; that is a company-reported usage figure, not a shopping-conversion measurement.
A launch promotion offered 50% back up to $50 on qualifying first purchases made with PayPal inside Perplexity from 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on November 25 through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on December 1, 2025. That promotion has ended and should not be treated as a current discount.

- Eligibility: Only participating merchants and products can expose Instant Buy or Buy with PayPal.
- Order terms: Verify price, delivery estimate, merchant name, returns and protection eligibility before confirming.
Why the partnership matters
The arrangement moves product discovery and transaction completion closer together: a shopper can describe a need, compare surfaced products and authorize payment without a separate retailer search session. For Newegg, the benefit is exposure to AI-led product discovery while retaining its catalog, fulfillment and merchant relationship. For PayPal, it extends wallet and protection services into an environment where recommendations and purchase decisions happen in conversation.
It does not eliminate the normal responsibilities of checking compatibility, specifications, shipping and return terms. The AI interface changes where the shopping journey starts and, for eligible orders, where checkout occurs; Newegg still controls the underlying retail transaction.
