The feature supports one-to-one and group calls directly in WhatsApp Web without downloading an app, but it is rolling out gradually, so it may not be available on every account yet.
What WhatsApp Web calling includes
Meta described the launch this way: “You can now make and receive audio and video calls, both one-on-one and group, directly from WhatsApp Web.” The announcement also lists screen sharing, call reactions, and a Calls tab for call history and favorites. Meta’s July 28, 2026 announcement does not give a date by which the rollout will reach every account.
Meta separately announced other calling improvements: transferring an active group call between devices, a waiting room for group calls when “Require approval to join” is enabled on a call link, QuickHD video, and noise suppression controlled in call settings. These are distinct updates; the announcement does not present them as requirements for making a WhatsApp Web call.
How to make voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web
The announcement confirms that calls can be made in the browser without an app download, but it does not provide a detailed setup guide, identify supported browsers, or state Web-specific computer hardware requirements. If calling is available on your account, use WhatsApp Web in your browser and look for its calling controls. If those controls are not present, the gradual rollout may not have reached your account.

WhatsApp’s desktop-app help page says computer voice and video calls need a microphone and an audio output device, but that guidance is for the desktop app, not a definitive specification for WhatsApp Web. Cost, privacy, and call length
Meta says WhatsApp Web calls are end-to-end encrypted, have no time limits, and come at no cost. “No cost” does not necessarily mean no internet expense: WhatsApp says calls use an internet connection rather than mobile-plan minutes, and data charges may apply. See WhatsApp’s calling information.

Group-call capacity and availability
WhatsApp’s current calling page says group calls can include up to 32 people. The Web launch announcement confirms group calls but does not state a Web-specific participant limit, so treat the 32-person figure as WhatsApp’s general published group-call capacity, not a limit explicitly confirmed for the Web launch.
WhatsApp lists calling across web browsers and native platforms including iOS, Android, Mac, iPad, and Windows. Browser calling may suit someone who wants to call without downloading an app, but whether it is available to you depends on the gradual rollout. The official sources do not compare browser-call reliability or quality with calls in the apps.
