Changing your device name, caller ID, phone number, or messaging settings does not change the platform identity that Apple services verify. The practical solution depends on what you are trying to do: use RCS for richer Android-to-iPhone texting, SMS/MMS when RCS is unavailable, or another cross-platform app for features both platforms support.
What “make it look like an iPhone” can mean
Different Apple features identify devices in different ways. A phone number displayed to someone, a green or blue message bubble, and an AirDrop device are not interchangeable identities.

Why iMessage cannot be enabled by changing your phone’s identity
Apple describes iMessage as a service for communicating with another iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or other Apple device. For delivery, the sender’s device contacts Apple’s Identity Service for public keys and push-notification addresses associated with the recipient. That account-and-device process is different from simply presenting an iPhone-looking name or number.
Apple’s security documentation explains the mechanism in How iMessage sends and receives messages securely. It does not provide an enrollment path for a non-Apple phone, and changing Android system properties or a contact card cannot create the required Apple device identity.

RCS is the supported way to improve Android-to-iPhone texting
RCS is a cross-platform messaging standard, not an iPhone impersonation technique. Where it is supported, Google Messages and the iPhone can exchange typing indicators, read receipts, and higher-resolution photos and videos. Apple identifies RCS conversations on iPhone with green bubbles; a green bubble therefore does not by itself prove that a message is ordinary SMS.
Requirements and limitations
- The Android phone needs RCS enabled in Google Messages.
- The iPhone must run a version that supports RCS (Apple documents support beginning with iOS 18), and the iPhone user’s provider must support it.
- Availability and features vary by device, settings, carrier, and region. Google lists those dependencies in its RCS chats FAQ.
- If RCS is unavailable for either participant, the conversation can fall back to SMS/MMS or another configured route.
On Android, open Google Messages, select your profile picture, choose Messages settings, then RCS chats (the label can vary by app version) and check the connection status. The iPhone user should check Settings > Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging where that option is available.

RCS encryption: check the conversation instead of assuming
Encryption is separate from whether a chat is RCS. Apple says SMS/MMS is not end-to-end encrypted, while RCS encryption depends on the software, carriers, and all participants. Look for the lock or “Encrypted” indicator in the conversation and consult the current device and provider settings.
Apple and Google announced that end-to-end encrypted RCS began a beta rollout on May 11, 2026. The announcement specifies iPhone users on iOS 26.5 with supported carriers and Android users on the latest Google Messages. Because this is a carrier- and region-dependent rollout, the feature may not yet appear on every compatible phone. Why changing a device name will not make AirDrop work
AirDrop discovery is not based only on the name shown in a nearby-device list. Apple describes Bluetooth Low Energy discovery, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, and a short identity hash derived from email addresses and phone numbers associated with the user’s Apple Account. The process is tied to Apple’s account and platform security model.
Apple’s AirDrop security documentation does not document a supported Android procedure for joining AirDrop by copying an iPhone name or spoofing an identity. For nearby transfers between different platforms, use a sharing method that both operating systems support.

Caller-ID spoofing is not platform spoofing
Caller-ID manipulation can make a recipient see a falsified number or name, subject to carrier controls and local law. It does not enroll the calling device with Apple, activate iMessage, or make AirDrop recognize it as an iPhone. Google’s discussion of suspected spoofed calls concerns protection against call impersonation, not conversion of one phone platform into another; see Google’s fake-call detection announcement.
Choose the practical option for your goal
For feature-rich texting
- Enable RCS in Google Messages on the Android phone.
- Ask the iPhone user to enable RCS and confirm carrier and regional support.
- Send a test message and check for typing/read features and any lock or encryption indicator.
- If RCS does not connect, use SMS/MMS or agree on a cross-platform messaging service.
For file sharing nearby
Do not rely on an AirDrop-spoofing app or altered device name. Use a transfer service, cloud link, or local-sharing method that explicitly supports both Android and iPhone.

For caller identification
Use your real number and carrier-supported caller-ID settings. If you are receiving suspected impersonation calls, use your carrier’s blocking tools and the protections available on your phone rather than attempting to imitate an Apple device.
