Unplug the speakers carefully, keep them powered off, blot only the outside, and do not use heat to dry them. A wet powered speaker can create electric-shock, fire, injury, and equipment-damage risks. The safest next step depends on whether power was connected, whether liquid entered the enclosure, what the liquid was, and whether the speaker now behaves abnormally.
Do these steps immediately
- Disconnect power without touching wet connections. If the speaker uses a mains plug or a powered subwoofer, switch off power if you can do so safely and unplug it without handling a wet plug or cable connection with wet hands. Google’s speaker safety guidance says, “Do not power your device when it’s wet.” Amazon gives comparable advice for wet Echo devices. Follow the instructions for your exact speaker model when they differ.
- Leave it disconnected while any moisture may remain. Do not keep playing audio to test it, and do not reconnect it merely because the casing looks dry. Manufacturer guidance says to wait until the device is completely dry; it does not establish one reliable drying time for every PC speaker.
- Blot the exterior. Use a soft, absorbent, lint-free cloth to remove visible water from the housing. Do not push cloth, cotton swabs, or other objects into ports, seams, openings, or the grille. Wiping the shell does not prove that the interior is dry.
- Do not apply external heat. Never use a hair dryer, microwave, oven, radiator, heat gun, or similar source. Google, Amazon, and TCL all warn against heat-assisted drying in their device guidance. Heat can damage plastics, adhesives, batteries, seals, or electronic parts.
- Keep the unit in a safe, dry location. Place it on a stable surface away from power, children, and pets while you arrange model-specific advice. Do not shake it aggressively or spray anything into it.
Choose the next step by what happened

| It now crackles, cuts out, distorts, fails to start, or controls behave oddly | Stop testing and obtain model-specific support. Repeated power cycles can worsen damage or create a safety hazard. |
| The spill was soda, coffee, alcohol, salt water, or another residue-forming liquid | Keep it disconnected and request advice for that model. Do not assume that drying alone removes conductive or corrosive residue. |
Why “it looks dry” is not enough
Moisture can remain behind a grille, inside a port, around a switch, or on a circuit board after the outer plastic feels dry. The available manufacturer instructions support careful external blotting and complete drying, but they do not provide a universal number of hours for unidentified PC speakers. Do not treat a guessed waiting period as a safety guarantee.
When to contact support or repair
Liquid may have entered the enclosure
Use the speaker’s exact model number when contacting the maker. Ask for the approved water-exposure procedure and whether the unit should be inspected before power is restored. Google’s guidance directs owners of its products to customer service and limits repair to Google or an authorized provider; that policy is specific to Google hardware, not every PC speaker.
The speaker is damaged or malfunctioning
Describe what happened, whether it was powered, the liquid involved, and every symptom. Keep the speaker unplugged until the manufacturer or a qualified technician tells you what to do. Do not open the enclosure unless the model’s service documentation explicitly permits it and you are qualified to work safely around powered equipment.

What not to do
- Do not power the speaker while it is wet or keep listening “to see if it works.”
- Do not touch wet plugs or connectors with wet hands.
- Do not insert tissues, swabs, tools, or other objects into openings.
- Do not use a hair dryer, microwave, oven, radiator, heat gun, or direct high heat.
- Do not spray cleaner, alcohol, water, or another chemical into the enclosure.
- Do not repeatedly reconnect a speaker that smells burnt, sparks, trips protection, or behaves abnormally.
What you need right now
A soft lint-free cloth is suitable for blotting the outside. It is not a repair tool and cannot dry hidden components. The important actions are safe disconnection, no power while wet, no external heat, and model-specific help when liquid entered the housing or symptoms appear.
