Not necessarily. An Atom D510 system may not support 4 GB in the first place, and even if 4 GB is installed, the operating system may not be able to use all of it. The exact answer depends on the computer’s motherboard and firmware, plus the operating system’s edition and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Why the Atom D510 name does not settle the memory limit
The processor name alone is not enough to determine a computer’s maximum RAM. Intel documentation describes D510 platform configurations with different memory specifications. For example, Intel’s 2012 addendum for a particular embedded N450/D410/D510 and 82801HM configuration specifies a 2 GB maximum; that figure is specific to the configuration described, not a universal limit for every computer with an Atom D510.
For a particular machine, use the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s specification and manual. Check the supported memory generation, maximum total capacity, and supported module layout, including per-slot capacity. A CPU-family specification cannot confirm that a specific motherboard accepts a particular 4 GB configuration.
Installed RAM is not the same as memory available to Windows
Even when a system accepts 4 GB, Windows may report less as usable. Some physical address space is assigned to firmware and hardware devices rather than RAM. Device mappings can leave less address space for memory below the 4 GB boundary; whether displaced RAM can be remapped above that boundary depends on the BIOS and platform.

Integrated graphics and other hardware reservations can also reduce the amount Windows reports as available. The result varies by system, so a generic estimate such as “3.x GB usable” is not reliable for every Atom D510 computer.
How Windows architecture and edition affect usable memory
A 32-bit Windows installation can be constrained by its physical-memory limits and by hardware address mappings. PAE can let x86 systems use wider physical addresses, but it does not override the memory limit for a particular Windows edition. A 64-bit installation avoids the same 32-bit addressing constraint, but it still cannot use memory beyond the system’s hardware capability, firmware configuration, or the edition’s limit.

Do not confuse a process’s virtual address space with total system RAM. Microsoft documents a 4,294,967,295-byte virtual address range for each process in 32-bit Windows. That is a per-process virtual-memory range, not a promise that Windows can use 4 GB of physical memory.
What to check on your D510 computer
- Identify the exact system or motherboard model. Find its manual or memory specification and verify the maximum capacity, memory type, and supported module arrangement.
- Check the firmware documentation. Look for documented memory remapping or memory-hole settings, and check whether a BIOS update changes memory support. Do not change firmware settings without the board maker’s instructions.
- Confirm the Windows version and architecture. Record the release, edition, and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit; these details affect the OS memory ceiling.
- Compare installed and hardware-reserved memory in Windows. The reported hardware-reserved amount can help explain why usable memory is below the installed total, particularly when integrated graphics or device mappings reserve address space.
Before buying a 4 GB memory upgrade
Confirm the exact motherboard’s supported memory generation, total capacity, per-slot limit, and module configuration before ordering RAM. A module that fits physically may still be unsupported by the board, and a processor specification does not establish motherboard compatibility. If you share the computer or motherboard model and your Windows edition and bitness, those details are needed to narrow down whether 4 GB is supported and how much Windows can use.
