The Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 1850 is a compact, three-button mouse for people who want a basic wireless pointer and have a free USB port. It connects through a 2.4 GHz nano USB receiver—not Bluetooth—and uses one AA battery. Its dimensions and storage slot make it portable on paper, but Microsoft’s US store currently lists it as unavailable, and the manufacturer’s Mac and Android compatibility entries are dated. Check live stock, your device’s ports, and its operating system before buying.

What the Microsoft Wireless 1850 offers

Microsoft positions the Wireless Mobile Mouse 1850 as a small, ambidextrous mouse for mobile use. Its documented feature set is deliberately simple: optical LED tracking, a clickable scroll wheel, and standard vertical scrolling. The manufacturer lists tracking at 1,000 points per inch (DPI); that is a specification, not a comparative test of accuracy or performance.

Specification What Microsoft lists
Dimensions 100 × 58.1 × 38.2 mm (Microsoft technical data sheet, approximately 2016)
Weight 90 g including one AA alkaline battery (Microsoft technical data sheet, approximately 2016)
Buttons Three, including the wheel button (Microsoft product page)
Tracking Optical LED; 1,000 points per inch (Microsoft product page and technical data sheet, approximately 2016)
Wireless connection 2.4 GHz radio through a Microsoft Nano Transceiver v1.1 USB receiver (Microsoft technical data sheet, approximately 2016)
Typical range 15 feet (5 metres); Microsoft says actual radio range can vary with factors such as nearby metal and receiver or mouse positioning (product page and technical data sheet)
Power One included AA alkaline battery; six months of typical battery life is Microsoft’s estimate, not a guaranteed runtime (current US product page and technical data sheet, approximately 2016)

The receiver stores inside the mouse when it is not in use, which can help keep the small part with the device. Microsoft describes the shape as suitable for either hand. That is a design claim rather than independent evidence that the 100 mm body will fit every hand or grip comfortably.

Is the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 1850 Bluetooth?

No. Microsoft specifies a 2.4 GHz connection through a small USB transceiver, not Bluetooth. You need a suitable, available USB port for the receiver; a computer that offers Bluetooth but no compatible USB port is not enough. If you specifically need a mouse that works only over Bluetooth and does not use a USB receiver, the 1850 is the wrong match.

Microsoft’s 2014 launch announcement called the receiver a “built-in mini USB transceiver”; its technical sheet identifies it as the Microsoft Nano Transceiver v1.1. The receiver is included and can be stored in the mouse, so no separate receiver purchase is part of the documented setup.

Compatibility: verify your exact device and operating system

Microsoft’s current US product listing names Windows 11 Home/Pro and Windows 10 with the latest updates. Its Mac entries are OS X 10.7–10.10, while the Android entries are versions 3.2, 4.2 (with limited functionality), 4.4.4, and 5.0. Those Mac and Android listings are historical versions, not evidence of support on current Macs, phones, or tablets. Microsoft’s technical sheet also cautions that advanced functionality is not available on every device.

Before buying, check the exact operating system and model of your computer, whether it has an available USB port the receiver can use, and whether the seller or manufacturer confirms compatibility for that setup. The listed older Mac and Android versions should not be treated as a promise of present-day support.

Is it a good fit for travel or everyday use?

The strongest case for the 1850 is its straightforward, portable specification: a 100 mm-long body, a listed weight of 90 g with battery, ambidextrous design, and receiver storage. It also has only three buttons and standard vertical scrolling, so it is not the choice for someone seeking extra programmable controls or specialized scroll functions.

Fit is personal. A 100 mm mouse may suit a compact travel setup, but body length alone cannot establish comfort for a particular hand or grip. If you can, compare its dimensions with a mouse you already find comfortable.

Customer impressions are mixed in the limited material available. A Best Buy review snippet says customers praise ease of use, price, and compact size; an individual Best Buy review also mentions loud clicks and needing to remember to switch the mouse off. These are anecdotal comments, not a representative survey or measured sound test, so they should not be read as a consensus or performance finding.

Price and availability now

Microsoft’s US store page marked the 1850 “not available” or “out of stock” when captured on September 27, 2026. That does not establish availability from other sellers, or the condition and reliability of a third-party listing. Check the seller, whether the unit is new, used, or refurbished, and the return terms before ordering.

Microsoft announced an estimated US retail price of $14.95 on March 18, 2014. That is historical launch context—not a current price or evidence of present-day value. A live price and stock status must be checked at the point of purchase. Microsoft’s current US product page lists a three-year warranty; confirm that the warranty applies in your region and through the sales channel you use.

Verdict

The Wireless Mobile Mouse 1850 is a basic option to consider if you want a small, ambidextrous mouse, accept a USB receiver, and can verify compatibility with your device. Its key limits are equally clear: it is not Bluetooth, offers only three buttons and standard vertical scrolling, and has dated listed Mac and Android versions. With Microsoft’s US listing unavailable at the cited check date, buy only after confirming current stock, seller terms, fit, and compatibility.
