For an original Corsair H100i installed in a Cooler Master HAF X RC-942 with four 120 mm fans, use the long screws through the HAF X top panel and outer fan into the radiator. Use the short screws for the inner fan on the opposite side of the radiator. Put supplied washers under the screw heads. Corsair identifies the short screws as approximately 10 mm and specifies this top-side order: screw, washer, case, fan, radiator (Corsair FAQ).
There is no safely universal long-screw length: the correct length depends on your HAF X panel, grille, fan frame, washers and exact H100i revision. Measure the stack and verify insertion depth before tightening.
Which H100i hardware goes where?
“H100i” covers several generations, and the supplied hardware is not identical across all of them. Identify the screws by their job rather than by a remembered package count.
| Location | Use | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| HAF X top panel → outer fan → radiator | Long fan/radiator screws | They must pass through the case panel and one fan before engaging the radiator. |
| Radiator → inner fan | Short radiator screws | They attach the second fan without passing through the case. |
| CPU block/pump | Socket-specific standoffs and thumb nuts | These are separate mounting hardware and are not radiator screws. |
Corsair’s current H100i-family hardware listing shows 16 long fan screws and 8 radiator screws, while older H100i kits and contemporary owner reports describe 8 long and 8 short screws. Check the contents of your own box and the manual for that revision (Corsair H100i-family hardware listing).

The correct push/pull stack
For a radiator mounted under the HAF X top panel, the outer side is assembled as:
Long screw → washer → HAF X top panel → outer 120 mm fan → radiator
The inner fan is then fastened independently from the radiator side:

How long should replacement screws be?
Corsair’s available guidance gives the short screw as approximately 10 mm, but it does not clearly publish one universal long-screw length or a complete thread marking for the original H100i. A commonly used replacement description is a radiator-compatible 6-32 UNC screw; regard that as a common standard to verify against your own screw, not as a confirmed specification for every H100i revision.

Measure the real HAF X stack
- Measure the thickness of the HAF X top panel or grille.
- Add the outer fan’s frame thickness, the washer, and any gasket or spacer.
- Use a screw long enough to pass through that stack and engage the radiator’s threaded channel.
- Compare it with an original supplied screw if you still have one. Measure usable length under the head, because sellers do not always measure screws the same way.
- Before assembling the case, start one screw in the radiator by hand. It must turn smoothly and clamp the fan without bottoming out.
The screw must not extend into the radiator far enough to contact its internal channels. A nominal label such as “30 mm radiator screw” is not sufficient when the case panel and grille add unknown thickness.
How many screws does a four-fan installation need?
- Eight long screws: four for each outer fan corner through the HAF X panel, or eight total for two outer fans.
- Eight short screws: four for each inner fan, or eight total for two inner fans.
Your original-era kit may contain only eight long screws, while newer documented kits may contain 16 long and 8 short screws. If you have fewer than eight screws of the required long type, obtain matching radiator hardware rather than substituting ordinary case screws.
Installation procedure in the HAF X
- Remove the HAF X top panel or grille if that makes alignment easier.
- Decide the airflow direction. Ensure the two fans on opposite sides of the radiator do not fight each other.
- Check that the 240 mm radiator and both fan layers clear motherboard heatsinks, memory, the optical-drive cage and the top-panel structure.
- Place the two outer fans against the case panel, with their airflow direction set as planned.
- Put a supplied washer under each long-screw head.
- Insert the long screws through the case panel and outer fan into the radiator. Start every screw by hand, then tighten in a cross pattern only until the fan is secure.
- Place the two inner fans against the opposite radiator face.
- Secure the inner fans with the short radiator screws. Do not use long screws on this side unless you have measured and verified their safe insertion depth for that exact radiator.
- Inspect all screw tips and the radiator for bent fins, contact marks or damage.
- Reinstall the top panel, recheck clearance and only then complete cable routing and power-on testing.
What to do if the screws are missing
- Contact Corsair support with the exact H100i revision or serial information.
- If one original screw remains, take it to a PC-hardware supplier or fastener shop.
- Match both the thread diameter/type and the usable length under the head.
- Ask for radiator-specific screws, not an unmarked case-screw assortment.
- Test-fit one screw by hand in the radiator before buying or installing the remaining set.
For a possible 6-32 UNC replacement, verify the thread against the original screw or Corsair’s replacement guidance first. The HAF X does not require a special screw for its panel; its thickness simply determines how much additional length the radiator screw needs.

Troubleshooting and failure prevention
The screw bottoms out before the fan is clamped
Remove it immediately. It is too long for that stack. Use a shorter screw or alter the washer/spacer arrangement only after confirming that the replacement still has adequate thread engagement.
The screw barely reaches the radiator
Do not force it or tighten against only one or two threads. Re-measure the panel, grille, fan and washer stack and obtain a correctly matched longer screw while verifying maximum safe insertion depth.
The screw binds or cross-threads
Back it out and restart by hand. A binding screw may have the wrong thread or be entering at an angle; forcing it can strip the radiator’s mounting threads.

Long screws are being used on both sides
That arrangement can drive the inner screws too far into the radiator. Use short radiator screws for the inner fans unless a measured, radiator-safe alternative is confirmed.
The top panel or motherboard interferes
Do a dry fit before applying thermal paste or permanently routing cables. The HAF X grille, removable cover and motherboard heatsinks can change the available height even when the nominal 240 mm mounting pattern aligns.
A screw may have punctured the radiator
Stop installation, inspect for a puncture or fluid, and do not power the system if damage or leakage is suspected. A screw that is merely “the right overall length” can still be unsafe if its tip reaches the radiator channels.
Is push/pull necessary?
Push/pull requires two fan layers and the two screw lengths described above. It may add noise and its cooling benefit depends on the fans, airflow path and restrictions in the HAF X; the original HAF X discussion is user-reported rather than a controlled performance test (AnandTech discussion). Complete the mechanical fit and screw-safety checks before deciding whether the extra fans are worthwhile.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ordinary HAF X case screws on the H100i radiator?
Not automatically. Use the radiator screws supplied with the H100i or a replacement whose thread and safe insertion depth have been verified against an original screw.
Are Corsair H100i manuals interchangeable?
No. H100i generations have different hardware counts and documentation. Confirm the revision before relying on a screw count or length.
