A giveaway can be legitimate yet still exclude updates, technical support, business use, or activation after its deadline. Before claiming one, check the live offer’s terms and make sure the product solves a real need.
What SharewareOnSale offers
SharewareOnSale publishes promotions arranged with software developers and offers it has aggregated from elsewhere. Its about page describes free giveaways and discounts that can range from 50% to 99% off. The site is Windows-focused, but its listings also cover Mac, mobile and web apps, subscriptions, and online courses.
“Free” and “discounted” are different offers. A giveaway generally means a promotional license at a displayed price of $0 for a limited period; a discounted listing still costs money. A developer’s trial is a third option: it lets you evaluate the product, but may expire or limit features. Read the offer and product terms rather than assuming any of these provides the same rights as a standard retail license.
The AnandTech forum thread titled “Bunch of useful software from Sharewareonsale (Limited time giveaways)” began on October 2, 2022, and later posts include offers from 2024 and 2025. It is a historical discussion, not a live catalog. Check the SharewareOnSale homepage and the individual live offer page for current availability, price, version, and deadline.

Are SharewareOnSale giveaways legitimate?
SharewareOnSale says its promotions are legitimate and not cracked or pirated software, and that offers may come from direct developer arrangements or from promotions it aggregates. That is the platform’s description of its sourcing, not a guarantee that every product is secure, useful, compatible, or well supported. Its explanation of its model also says email registration is used to deliver giveaways and newsletters; it says users can unsubscribe.
Before installing, identify the software publisher and visit its product page. Check where the installer comes from, how the license is activated, what information registration requires, and whether the product is still supported. For privacy, security, backup, password, and system-maintenance tools, assess the product itself—not just the deal platform.
What a giveaway license may—and may not—include
SharewareOnSale’s partner information describes common giveaway conditions such as no free future updates, no free technical support, personal or home use only, and a requirement to download, install, or register before the promotion ends. It describes giveaways lasting 24, 48, or 72 hours; that is a general pattern, not a promise about any particular offer.

- Used Book in Good Condition
These are possible restrictions, not a universal list that applies to every product. A “lifetime” license, when an offer uses that language, needs careful interpretation: it might cover a particular version or account rather than all future upgrades, unlimited devices, or cloud storage forever. The site’s terms defer to product-specific conditions for licensing, compatibility, updates, and support.
Recommended Free Tools
- Use rights: Check whether the license permits personal, educational, or commercial use, and how many users or devices it covers.
- Version and updates: Find out whether it covers only the offered version, minor updates, or later major upgrades.
- Activation and reinstallation: Confirm whether a key, account, email registration, or online activation is required, when it must happen, and whether you can reuse the license after replacing a computer.
- Support and warranty: Identify who, if anyone, provides support. SharewareOnSale’s terms do not provide a general product warranty.
- Refunds: SharewareOnSale says it offers no refunds or exchanges for free or paid products. Its terms also say prices can change without notice.
What to check before claiming an offer
- Deadline and time zone: Note the exact end time shown on the live offer page. Do not rely on an old forum post or assume the promotion remains open.
- Compatibility: Check the publisher’s system requirements for your operating system and version, device, processor architecture, and any other prerequisites.
- License scope: Verify permitted use, device and user limits, transferability, and any regional restrictions.
- Entitlement: Check the version you receive and whether updates, upgrades, storage, or service access continue after the promotion.
- Activation steps: Determine whether you need an account, key, coupon, email registration, or activation before the deadline.
- Download and support: Use the installer linked from the official offer or publisher, and find the stated support channel before you need it.
- Privacy and safety: Review required data collection and bundled components. For tools that alter a disk, registry, security settings, or privacy configuration, understand the changes and make a backup first.
- Keep your records: Save the key, receipt or claim confirmation, installer if permitted, and the terms that applied to the offer. SharewareOnSale says free-offer information is displayed onscreen, emailed, and accessible through the account area.
How to claim and test a giveaway
The exact controls and activation route vary by offer; do not assume every product uses the same button or process.
- Open the live product page on SharewareOnSale and confirm it is still available at $0. A paid price means it is a sale, not a free giveaway.
- Read the giveaway terms, license conditions, and system requirements before downloading.
- Use the page’s claim or download control and provide the requested email or account details.
- Retrieve the key, coupon, or installation instructions shown onscreen, sent by email, or made available in your account.
- Download from the source linked by the offer or the publisher, then install and register within the stated window if required.
- Launch the application, confirm that the correct edition is activated, and test the feature you need before relying on it.
- Store the activation details and relevant license terms somewhere secure.
Which types of offers are most useful?
Start with a task you actually need to do. The offer categories below are ways to assess a product, not endorsements of any particular listing.
Rank #3
Backup and recovery
A backup utility can be valuable when it gives you a dependable way to restore files or a system. Check whether it backs up locally or to the cloud, how encryption works, the device limit, storage and retention terms, and whether you can test a restore. A large advertised storage quota does not prove that recovery will work; keep a second backup for important data. Snapshot listings included BigMIND DR Local Basic and a Degoo Premium 10 TB offer, but the listing names and capacities alone do not establish their present price, availability, or suitability.
Productivity and office software
Compare document and spreadsheet compatibility, collaboration features, supported file formats, updates, and license rights against the tools you already have. Microsoft 365, LibreOffice, and browser-based office apps may meet a need without an unfamiliar installer. A past SharewareOnSale snapshot showed paid offers for Microsoft Office Professional 2021 and Windows 11 Home and Pro—not free giveaways. For any unusually low-priced Microsoft license, verify the edition, license type, activation method, region, account ownership, and resale terms before buying; do not infer that a displayed discount establishes a normal retail price.
Media creation
For video, audio, image, or camera software, check export resolution and formats, watermarks, codecs, project limits, and whether the promotional build expires. Historical AnandTech thread entries included AceMovi Video Editor, Macrorit Partition Expert Pro, Kingshiper Audio Editor, and Video2Cart. They are examples of past discussion entries, not current offers or recommendations. The thread’s original page, page 3, and page 4 document the evolving discussion.
Privacy and system utilities
Disk partitioners, registry cleaners, system cleaners, and privacy-modification tools can change settings or data in ways that are difficult to reverse. Use built-in Windows features when they are sufficient, back up important data before disk or system changes, and avoid installing a utility without a specific reason and a clear recovery path.
Security, VPNs, and password managers
These products are not interchangeable, and a discount or lifetime-style offer is not proof of trustworthiness. For a VPN, examine account and renewal terms, supported devices, and the provider’s data practices. For a password manager, consider security documentation, export options, emergency access, and platform support. For any security-sensitive service, look for current support and transparent security information rather than choosing on price alone. A SharewareOnSale snapshot included Surfshark, Password Boss, and mSpy listings; those names represent materially different products, not one equivalent category.
Courses and learning bundles
Assess the course’s publication date, access period, projects, assessments, instructor support, and whether it teaches tools that remain current. A high crossed-out reference price is not evidence of equivalent value to you. Compare the material with access you may already have through a school, employer, library, or learning service. Snapshot listings included Python, data-analysis, game-development, and Web3 bundles; availability and terms can change.

When to skip a deal or choose another route
- Skip an offer if its deadline, publisher, license, download source, or activation requirements are unclear.
- Skip software that does not support your system, is obsolete for your task, or duplicates a reliable tool you already have.
- Do not use a personal-use-only giveaway for business work; buy a suitable commercial license or choose software whose free terms allow business use.
- Prefer a developer’s free edition, an open-source alternative, a built-in platform tool, or a trial when it better fits your need or lets you evaluate the product safely.
- For work where current updates, support, commercial rights, or easy reinstallation matter, compare the giveaway with a standard paid license or subscription. Pay only when those benefits justify the cost.
For a paid offer, verify the license type, activation route, region, account ownership, renewal and cancellation conditions, and refund terms before checkout. SharewareOnSale says non-free purchases may be processed through the developer or its own checkout, with PayPal or Stripe handling payments in the latter case. Its stated no-refund policy makes checking the terms before paying especially important. More on its range of listings appears on its product and subscription overview.
If claiming or activation goes wrong
The offer has expired
Do not assume a key remains valid after the promotion. Check the developer’s paid version, a newer giveaway, the developer’s trial, or a free or open-source alternative.
The key does not activate
Check that you installed the correct product edition and platform, copied the key without extra spaces, and completed any required registration before the deadline. Look for an account-creation or activation step on the developer’s site, and check whether an existing trial or older installation is interfering. If the offer names a developer support channel, contact that provider rather than assuming SharewareOnSale handles product troubleshooting.
The software is incompatible
Do not force an installation on an unsupported operating system. Check the publisher’s requirements and consider a supported newer version, a virtual machine for genuinely necessary legacy software, or a currently maintained alternative. Compatibility mode is only appropriate when the vendor or a reliable source indicates it may work.
You need business use
Check the license before using a giveaway for paid work. If it is limited to home or personal use, obtain a commercial license or use a product whose free terms explicitly permit business use.
The tool is security-sensitive
Verify the publisher and download source, check recent support activity and independent reputation, and make a backup before running disk or registry tools. Do not replace a trusted security product solely because a giveaway costs nothing.
