Its compact design and lack of a fan in the accessible datasheet help explain its appeal to silent-PC builders, but neither makes a whole computer silent nor establishes modern motherboard compatibility. It is best considered for a known, low-power embedded or legacy system—not as an assumed drop-in power supply for a current PC.
What the Winmate DD-24AX does
The DD-24AX is not an AC-to-DC desktop power supply and not simply a 24V-to-12V converter. It is a DC-DC module intended to turn a 24V DC source into several rails for an ATX-compatible motherboard and related components. The available datasheet describes a 20-pin ATX output and auxiliary connectors. It gives a 120W total output rating, but that does not mean every rail can deliver its maximum simultaneously; the combined system load must stay within the total rating.
The datasheet was revised on June 30, 2009 and January 9, 2013. These are historical specifications, not confirmation of current production or performance of any particular used unit. Winmate DD-24AX datasheet

The listed 12V limit is 5A, or 60W at nominal voltage, making that rail a practical constraint even when a system’s calculated total is below 120W. The datasheet also lists ripple/noise limits: under 100mV on 5V, under 66mV on 3.3V, 100mV on 5VSB, 120mV on 12V, and 200mV on −12V. Those figures are from the old document and should not be treated as a modern independent test.
Why it appealed to silent-PC builders
A DC-DC module can avoid placing a conventional AC-DC ATX supply inside a small computer enclosure when a suitable 24V source is already available. The DD-24AX datasheet does not list a fan, but it also does not provide an explicit passive-cooling guarantee, decibel rating, or acoustic test. “Silent” is therefore best understood as an intended system benefit, not a verified noise result for the module.
Even a quiet converter cannot silence the rest of a PC. The external 24V supply, storage devices, case fans, motherboard voltage regulators, and other components can make audible noise. Electrical efficiency is likewise not an acoustic rating or proof that the module runs cool.

Efficiency still means heat to remove
Using the datasheet’s stated 88% efficiency as a calculation assumption, delivering 120W would require about 136.4W at the input and dissipate roughly 16.4W as heat: 120 ÷ 0.88 ≈ 136.4W, then 136.4 − 120 ≈ 16.4W. This is an estimate derived from the published figure, not a measured full-load result; actual losses vary with load, rail distribution, input conditions, and temperature.

Allow for enclosure conduction, heatsinking, or airflow from other components, and do not assume that the documented 0–50°C operating range makes the module suitable for a hot sealed enclosure.
Connectors and motherboard compatibility
The datasheet identifies a DIN-style 4-pin power jack, a 4-pin 24V input connector, a 20-pin ATX output, a 4-pin 12V ATX output, separate 2-pin 5V and 12V outputs, and a 4-pin drive/HDD power connector. Its ATX pinout includes Power Good, PS_ON, 5VSB, the listed voltage rails, and ground pins.

- QUALITY ASSURANCE: Our Power Board is shipped after strict quality inspection. Due to long-distance transportation and distribution, various unpredictable situations may occur. If you have any questions about our products, please us
Do not assume that a 20-pin connector can be adapted safely to a modern 24-pin motherboard just because both are called ATX. Before connecting a board, verify the pin assignments, required grounds, standby supply, PS_ON behavior, Power Good timing, and the board’s CPU auxiliary-power connector. Many contemporary systems use a 4-pin or 8-pin EPS connection and may demand more 12V current than this module can supply. The datasheet does not establish modern ATX timing tolerances or support for present-day transient loads.
When it may—and may not—fit
Potentially reasonable applications
- A low-power embedded or legacy x86 system with a documented 24V DC source.
- A motherboard whose connector, signaling, and auxiliary-power requirements have been checked against the module’s pinout.
- A system whose total demand and 12V draw remain comfortably within the listed limits.
- An experimental or replacement project where the complete system can be tested under realistic startup and operating loads.
Poor candidates
- Modern gaming PCs, workstations, or systems with a discrete GPU or high-power CPU.
- Any build that needs more than 5A on 12V, regardless of its nominal total wattage.
- A board requiring modern 24-pin ATX and EPS power unless compatibility is specifically established.
- Vehicle-battery or unregulated industrial installations without suitable input protection and verified input tolerance.
- Production equipment requiring confirmed lifecycle, warranty, traceability, or current compliance documentation.
The accessible documentation identifies 24V DC input; it does not establish a wide input range. Do not treat a 12V battery, an automotive electrical system, or a noisy industrial rail as an acceptable substitute. For variable or transient-prone sources, obtain written input limits and protection guidance from the manufacturer and provide appropriate upstream protection.

Protection and failure considerations
The datasheet lists output over-current protection, short-circuit protection, and soft-start/low-inrush operation. It does not establish whether short-circuit protection automatically recovers, nor does the accessible material give exact over-voltage or thermal-shutdown thresholds, reverse-polarity protection, surge/load-dump protection, hold-up behavior, or modern ATX timing tolerances. That uncertainty is especially important in vehicle, battery, and industrial installations.

- Failure to start: PS_ON or Power Good behavior may not suit a particular board; the 24V source may sag at startup; or CPU and storage startup loads may exceed the module’s capability.
- 12V overload: A system can remain below 120W overall yet exceed the 5A 12V rail limit.
- Thermal trouble: A sealed enclosure can trap conversion losses even if the module has no listed fan.
- Input damage: Reverse polarity and automotive load-dump tolerance are not established in the available DD-24AX documentation.
Test the complete assembly with its intended source and realistic startup and operating loads. A no-load multimeter check alone cannot establish stable system operation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the DD-24AX still available?
The DD-24AX was not found in Winmate’s current public product catalog reviewed for this article, which highlights newer converter models instead. That does not prove the DD-24AX is discontinued, but its current production and ordinary availability are unclear. The current Winmate DD-2412 product page is for a different 24V-to-12V converter, not evidence that the DD-24AX remains orderable.
If considering old stock, ask Winmate or a traceable industrial distributor to confirm the unit’s revision, connector pinout, production status, warranty, and compatibility documentation. Winmate provides a global contacts route for inquiries. Do not assume a listing for a newer model or an unverified old-stock unit is a drop-in replacement.

Current Winmate alternatives are not ATX drop-ins
These current product families address related DC conversion needs, but the published descriptions do not make them direct replacements for the DD-24AX’s multi-rail ATX output.
| Model | Published role and key details | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| DD-2412 | 24V-to-12V converter, 100W, 12V/10A, up to 90% efficiency; 9–36V rated input line-regulation testing and over-current/over-voltage protection are listed. | When a regulated 12V rail is needed, not a full set of ATX motherboard rails. |
| WP12-80 | 9–36V input, 12V output, 80W class. | When the source varies across that input range and the load needs 12V only. |
| WP12-40C | Lower-power 9–36V-to-12V converter. | For smaller embedded loads, not a full ATX system replacement. |
| ML-1280 | 9–36V input, 80W class, 12V/6.67A output, up to 90% efficiency; reverse-polarity protection, surge-stopper circuitry, eFuse protection, and MIL-STD-1275E compliance are stated. | For harsh or defense-oriented electrical environments where those protections matter more than ATX compatibility. |
Choose by required output rails, current, input range, protection, connectors, and system power sequencing—not by model-name similarity. If the system requires ATX rails, obtain a current ATX-output solution whose manufacturer documents the exact motherboard and load requirements.
Verdict
The DD-24AX remains an interesting example of compact 24V-to-ATX conversion, particularly for low-power legacy and embedded systems. Its old specifications, 5A 12V ceiling, 20-pin-era connections, uncertain availability, and undocumented modern transient behavior make it a risky choice for a current PC or supported production design without explicit compatibility confirmation.
