1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.5.1 is a Windows Radeon driver released on May 8, 2025—not a current driver release. It adds support for the Radeon RX 9070 GRE, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and F1 25, expands FSR 4 and HYPR-Tune game support, and includes several fixes. It also shipped with unresolved issues affecting some games and VR setups, so whether to install depends on your GPU, laptop or desktop, and the games you use.
AMD lists the main package as WHQL-certified driver version 25.10.01.09, with Windows Driver Store version 32.0.21001.9024. There is a separate package for Polaris and Vega cards, with a different driver version and support scope. AMD’s main 25.5.1 release notes are the authoritative reference for the Windows package.
What Adrenalin Edition 25.5.1 is
Adrenalin Edition is AMD’s Windows graphics software package. It includes the Radeon display driver and the Adrenalin interface for game profiles, graphics settings, tuning, and supported features such as HYPR-RX, Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost, recording, and the in-game overlay. Which controls and features are available depends on the Radeon hardware and software configuration; the package does not give every Radeon generation the same feature set.
The release is dated May 8, 2025, according to Tweakers’ contemporary download listing. Its WHQL status means the package passed Microsoft’s certification process; it is not a guarantee that every game or PC configuration will be problem-free.

What 25.5.1 adds
RX 9070 GRE and new-game support
The main package adds support for the Radeon RX 9070 GRE and lists support for DOOM: The Dark Ages and F1 25. AMD’s notes discuss this as a Windows release; they said packaged Linux drivers for the RX 9070 GRE were expected later in May 2025.
More games with FSR 4 support
AMD added FSR 4 support for the following games:
- Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT
- EVERSPACE 2
- Fort Solis
- Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
- THE FINALS
- InFlux Redux
This is a game-specific expansion, not a driver switch that makes every game compatible with FSR 4. Availability and behavior can depend on the game’s implementation, updates, and supported GPU. The release notes do not establish identical image quality or performance across these titles.

Expanded HYPR-Tune game profiles
AMD lists HYPR-Tune support for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel Rivals, Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Path of Exile 2. HYPR-RX combines or applies Radeon features and presets where supported; it is not a guaranteed frame-rate increase. Results depend on factors such as the GPU, game, resolution, CPU limit, frame-generation settings, and image-quality trade-offs.
Vulkan updates
The driver adds Vulkan 1.4 support and lists the extensions VK_EXT_shader_replicated_composites, VK_KHR_maintenance8, and VK_EXT_image_2d_view_of_3d. These additions matter most to developers and to Vulkan applications, emulators, or games that use them. AMD does not describe them as a general gaming-performance uplift.

Issues AMD says 25.5.1 fixes
AMD’s main-package notes list the following fixes or improvements. They indicate what AMD addressed, not a promise that the problem is resolved for every affected configuration.
- A factory-reset installation could fail to detect the integrated camera on some Ryzen AI Max and Max+ systems.
- AMD Chat installation could remain at 0% after upgrading to an RX 9000-series card.
- A SteamVR memory leak could lead to a system crash on some Radeon products, including RX 9000-series cards. AMD advises disabling SteamVR Motion Smoothing if the problem continues.
- Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition could intermittently crash or time out.
- Civilization VII could intermittently crash or time out when Anti-Lag was enabled.
- The Adrenalin interface could intermittently fail to open from the desktop context menu or system tray.
For the separate Polaris and Vega package, AMD lists fixes for intermittent crashes or freezes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and intermittent crashes in DOOM (2016) when using the Alt+R or Alt+Z hotkeys. These are listed in AMD’s Polaris and Vega release notes.

Known issues to weigh before installing
AMD’s main release notes identified these outstanding issues at release time. They are reported possibilities for the named conditions, not evidence that every user will encounter them.
| Game or setup | Issue AMD listed | AMD’s stated workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Some VR headsets on certain Radeon products, including RX 7000-series cards | Stutter at headset refresh rates of 80 Hz or 90 Hz | Change the headset refresh rate. |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Intermittent system or application crashes | No workaround stated in the release notes. |
| RX 9000-series graphics with Ryzen 9 9950X integrated graphics; Battlefield 1 | Battlefield 1 may fail to launch | Disable the iGPU in the system BIOS. |
| Monster Hunter Wilds with Radeon Anti-Lag and Instant Replay enabled | Intermittent crashes or driver timeouts | No workaround stated in the release notes. |
| Some RX 7000-series products; Battlefield | Artifacts or image corruption | No workaround stated in the release notes. |

Supported GPUs, Windows versions, and package choice
Do not treat “25.5.1” as one identical driver for all Radeon cards. AMD published a main package and a separate legacy package, with different driver versions, supported hardware, and fix lists.
| Package | Driver version | Supported product families listed by AMD |
|---|---|---|
| Main package | 25.10.01.09 | Radeon RX 9070; RX 7900, 7800, 7700, 7650, and 7600; RX 6900, 6800, 6700, 6600, 6500, and 6400; RX 5700, 5600, 5500, and 5300 families; certain corresponding mobile Radeon products; and certain Ryzen processors with integrated Radeon graphics. |
| Polaris and Vega package | 23.19.23.01 | Radeon VII; Radeon RX Vega; Radeon Pro Duo; Radeon RX 500 and 500X; Radeon RX 400; Radeon 600-series mobile products; and certain Ryzen, Ryzen PRO, and Athlon processors with Radeon graphics. |
These are AMD’s family-level compatibility lists; check the applicable release notes and AMD support page for your exact product. The main package details are in AMD’s main release notes; legacy product details are in the Polaris and Vega notes.
- Windows: AMD lists Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, and 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 and later.
- Laptops and all-in-one PCs: AMD recommends the computer manufacturer’s graphics driver. OEM versions may be validated for power management, display switching, brightness, sleep and resume, hotkeys, external displays, and vendor-specific tuning. A generic AMD driver may offer newer game support but is not automatically the best fit for those systems.
- Handheld gaming devices: AMD says Adrenalin does not include handheld support; use the handheld manufacturer’s driver.
- Apple Boot Camp: AMD says this package is not intended for Boot Camp systems; contact the system manufacturer.
Should you install Adrenalin 25.5.1?
Install if you need a specific addition or fix
- You have an RX 9070 GRE and need the package’s official Windows support.
- You need its listed support for DOOM: The Dark Ages or F1 25.
- You want the newly listed FSR 4 game support and your GPU and game support the feature.
- You are affected by an issue AMD lists as fixed, such as the specified Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition or Civilization VII problem.
Be cautious if you depend on an affected game or setup
Consider staying on a known-good driver if your priority is VR at 80/90 Hz, Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds with Anti-Lag and Instant Replay, Battlefield on an RX 7000-series card, or the affected Warzone map. AMD documented unresolved issues for these conditions. If you use a laptop with a stable OEM driver, weigh the potential game-support benefit against system-specific functions such as sleep, brightness, and display switching.
There is no universal performance reason to update
AMD’s notes emphasize hardware and game support, feature profiles, API support, and fixes; they do not supply a universal FPS uplift. A stable system that does not need a listed feature or fix has no automatic reason to move to this particular release. A driver may help one title while exposing a problem in another, and HYPR-RX or FSR 4 can involve trade-offs in latency, image quality, power use, or frame pacing.
Quick Recap
How to install it with less risk
- Identify your GPU and Windows version. Confirm the exact Radeon model before choosing a package; use AMD’s main package for supported newer families and its separate Polaris/Vega package for the legacy products listed above.
- Choose the appropriate source. Download from AMD’s official support page for the relevant release. For a laptop or all-in-one, check the manufacturer’s driver first.
- Prepare a recovery path. Consider creating a Windows restore point and recording your Adrenalin tuning and game-profile settings before changing drivers.
- Run the installer with administrator access. AMD states administrator access is required.
- Test what matters to you. After installation, launch the games and features you rely on; an installer completing successfully does not establish that every workload is stable.
If the update causes trouble
- Reboot and retry once before moving to more invasive troubleshooting.
- Check whether Windows replaced or reverted the display driver.
- If a clean reinstall is warranted, follow AMD’s official uninstall guidance rather than assuming a third-party driver-cleaning utility is required.
- When diagnosing crashes, temporarily disable overlays, Anti-Lag, Instant Replay, or third-party monitoring, then test one change at a time.
- On a laptop, return to the OEM driver if display switching, sleep, brightness, or power behavior breaks.
- If a game or application important to you is less reliable, roll back to the previous known-good driver instead of keeping the update solely because it is newer.
