MIUI 10 is not an Android version, so a package labeled “MIUI 10 GApps” is not automatically right for your phone. Some MIUI 10 builds use Android 8.0 Oreo; others use different Android versions. Match any Google-app package to your phone’s Android version, architecture, and ROM type. The old MIUI 10/MIUI 9 download guide is historical, and its files cannot be treated as verified current downloads.
Quick answer: which installation path fits?
- Official MIUI already has Google Play and Google services: install nothing extra. Sign in and update the apps through Play Store.
- Stock China MIUI is missing Google apps: look for a method documented for your exact ROM build. Do not assume a generic installer or APK set works on every Xiaomi phone.
- A custom ROM omits Google apps: use a recovery-flashed GApps package that matches the ROM’s Android version and architecture, and follow the ROM maintainer’s instructions.
- You do not know the Android version, ROM, or architecture: pause before downloading. Those details determine compatibility.
What “GApps for MIUI 10” means
GApps is shorthand for Google applications and supporting services. A package may include the Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Google Account sign-in components, contacts and calendar sync, setup wizard, and backup transport. The exact contents depend on the package; a label such as “GApps” does not guarantee a particular component list.
A Xiaomi phone may lack Google apps because it runs a China-region MIUI ROM, a custom or debloated ROM, or a build installed without its recommended Google package. The MIUI name alone does not identify which case applies.
Check your phone before choosing a package
- Record the exact model. Find it in Settings → About phone. Similar model names can have different firmware and hardware.
- Record the MIUI build and region. Note whether it is China Stable, China Beta/Developer, Global, EEA, India, or a custom ROM. Labels and menu locations vary by build.
- Check Android separately. Look for the Android version in About phone. Do not infer it from “MIUI 10.”
- Identify architecture. Relevant devices commonly use ARM or ARM64, but do not guess. A recovery package must match the ROM/device architecture.
- Identify the installation environment. Is this stock MIUI without custom recovery, or an unlocked device with TWRP or another recovery? The installation method differs.
- Back up important data. Unlocking a bootloader or flashing firmware can erase data. Preserve photos, messages, and authenticator recovery information before making system changes.
Choose by ROM type and Android version
| Phone situation | Appropriate route | Key check |
|---|---|---|
| Official Global, EEA, or India MIUI with Google services present | No additional GApps package | Confirm Play Store and Google Play Services work before changing anything. |
| Stock China MIUI without Google apps | A ROM-specific installer or carefully matched APK method, if documented for that build | Generic instructions are not proof of compatibility with your model and MIUI build. |
| Custom MIUI or AOSP-based ROM with recovery | A matching recovery-flashed GApps ZIP, when the ROM supports or requires it | Match Android version and architecture; follow the ROM maintainer’s sequence. |
| Android 8.0 ROM | Android 8.0 package for the correct architecture | Do not substitute an Android 8.1 package; compatibility guidance distinguishes them. |
| Android 8.1 ROM | Android 8.1 package for the correct architecture | Do not use an Android 8.0 package simply because the phone runs MIUI 10. |
What is known about the old MIUI 10 and MIUI 9 downloads
The original Android Sage article was published on July 31, 2017 and updated July 9, 2018. It described an Android 8.0 Oreo GApps package mainly for MIUI 10 China Beta ROMs, while describing a separate MIUI 9 package as Android 7.0 Nougat and listing Google Installer v2.0 for MIUI 8/9. These are distinct historical use cases, not one universal package. See the original MIUI 9/MIUI 10 GApps guide.

Android 8.0 archives remain listed, but archive availability is not the same as a current release or a recommendation for your phone. SourceForge labels an Android 8.0 archive unofficial; its ARM64 listings include 2017 files. The later Open GApps archive includes Android 8.0 files dated as late as 2022, including an ARM64 full package dated May 3, 2022 and an ARM64 stock package dated February 15, 2022. These are old archive files, not evidence of ongoing Android 8.0 maintenance in 2026. The ARM64 archive shows release directories.

If you cannot confirm a file’s source and compatibility, do not install it. Prefer the ROM maintainer’s documented source; check any supplied checksum against the publisher’s value, and avoid repacked APKs or ZIPs from unknown mirrors. Do not rely on a “works on every Xiaomi” claim.
Installing Google apps on stock China MIUI
There is no single safe procedure for every China MIUI build. Use only a method intended for the exact ROM and Android version; if the ROM maintainer provides no compatible method, do not improvise by installing a random bundle.

- Multiple Connection Options: Bluetooth 5.4 technology and the TV box’s two built-in USB ports let you easily connect your phone, speakers, keyboard, and other peripherals
- Back up important data and confirm the model, MIUI build, region, and Android version.
- Obtain the installer or APK set from a source you can assess, and verify the stated compatibility and checksum if the publisher supplies one.
- Follow that package’s own instructions. If MIUI asks for permission to install apps from the file manager, enable it only for the trusted installer you are using, then revoke the permission when finished. Older MIUI builds may show the setting as Settings → Additional settings → Privacy → Unknown sources; labels differ. The historical guide describes this older path: Android Sage’s MIUI instructions.
- Install only the components specified for that package, then reboot if its instructions require it.
- Open Play Store, sign in, allow Google components to update, and test downloads, account sign-in, notifications, Maps location, and contact/calendar synchronization.
The old guide instructs readers to extract a ZIP and install every APK one by one in a stated order. That may have applied to its particular historical package, but it is not a universal Android procedure: component order, signatures, permissions, and system placement vary. Do not mix APKs from different bundles or install every file just because it is present.
Installing GApps on a custom ROM with recovery
- Read the ROM maintainer’s installation instructions. Confirm the Android version and architecture the ROM actually uses.
- Download a GApps ZIP built for that Android release and architecture. Open GApps archives have separate architecture and package variants; an Android 8.0 guide warns that Android 8.1 packages are not compatible with Android 8.0.x. See GApps package and compatibility guidance.
- Boot into the supported custom recovery and create a backup of the partitions the recovery and ROM instructions recommend, especially before changing system software.
- Flash the ROM first. If its instructions require GApps, flash the matching ZIP immediately afterward without booting Android in between.
- Wipe cache or Dalvik only when the ROM’s instructions recommend it, then reboot and complete Google setup.
Package size is a trade-off, not a compatibility shortcut. Pico is a minimal Google base; Nano and Micro add selected components; larger variants include more apps, use more storage, and can increase the chance of conflicts. Choose only a variant supported by the ROM. A recovery GApps ZIP is generally not the right way to add Google apps to an unmodified stock MIUI installation.

Troubleshooting common failures
Play Store closes immediately
Restart once and set date and time to automatic. If the problem remains, clear cache for Play Store and Google Play Services, then reboot. Check that Google Services Framework is present. A wrong Android base, mismatched Play Services, incomplete install, conflicting signatures, corrupted app data, or ROM restrictions may also be responsible. Do not add more random APKs; use one complete package matched to the ROM rather than mixing versions.
“App not installed”
Check for a wrong architecture or Android release, an existing package with a conflicting signature, low storage, or MIUI security controls blocking the installation. Some APKs require privileged system placement and cannot be installed as ordinary user apps. Do not force a system-level change unless the package and ROM instructions explicitly support it.

“Device is not Play Protect certified”
Installing Play Store does not guarantee certification. Certification depends on the device, ROM, Google registration, and software integrity; GApps alone cannot be promised to resolve it.
Bootloop after flashing a GApps ZIP
- Return to recovery and stop repeatedly attempting to boot while the loop persists.
- Restore the pre-installation backup if available.
- If there is no backup, follow the ROM maintainer’s clean recovery or reflash instructions. Reflash only a GApps variant explicitly supported by that ROM.
- Do not wipe user data unless necessary; a data wipe erases the device.
Google Installer fails halfway
Do not keep retrying with different installer APKs from random sites. If possible, remove the untrusted installer, reboot, and use the ROM maintainer’s recommended package or a clean ROM installation. A third-party overview describes Google Installer procedures, but it does not verify every build: Google Installer overview.
Notifications do not arrive
Check Google Play Services battery restrictions, MIUI autostart permission, background-data limits, battery saver, and Google account sync. MIUI menu names vary by release, so use instructions that match your version rather than following unrelated screenshots.
Alternatives and their trade-offs
- Use the ROM maintainer’s recommended Google package: usually the most relevant route for a custom ROM because the maintainer can specify supported Android versions and flashing order.
- Install a compatible Global or other regional ROM: may provide Google services natively, but requires confirming model and region compatibility. Bootloader unlocking can erase data; incorrect firmware can brick the phone or affect features such as NFC, camera, Widevine, banking, or OTA updates.
- Return to official firmware: can be appropriate when a modified ROM is unstable, but use the exact firmware and instructions for the device.
- Use non-Google alternatives: this avoids installing Google services but may leave apps that depend on Google Play Services or Google sign-in partially functional or unavailable.
Bootloader and warranty effects vary by device, country, and modification; do not assume a flash is consequence-free.

Before you proceed
- Know the exact model, ROM region/type, MIUI build, Android version, and architecture.
- Use no package unless its source and compatibility are clear.
- Do not confuse MIUI 10 with Android 8.0, or MIUI 9 with the separate historical Nougat package.
- Do not flash recovery GApps on stock MIUI unless the ROM instructions explicitly call for it.
- Back up first and have a recovery plan before changing system software.
