The simplest way to display social media follower counts in WordPress is to install a counter plugin or add a social-statistics block, then place its shortcode, widget, or block where you want visitors to see it. First check which networks it supports and whether counts are fetched automatically, cached, shared from another site, or maintained as static figures.
Choose a counter based on its data and display method
Two plugins illustrate why it is worth checking the details before you install. Social Pulse lists YouTube, Facebook, X, and Steam, and documents shortcode output. Its Leader mode retrieves values directly and caches them; its Follower mode reads values prefetched by a Leader installation. That arrangement may suit multiple WordPress sites sharing prefetched counts, but check the plugin’s current setup instructions and platform requirements before relying on it.
Social Counter & Sharer lists 11 networks: Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, TikTok, Vimeo, YouTube, Tumblr, and VKontakte. Its WordPress.org listing describes the statistics as static and offers display through a widget or shortcode. Treat those figures as static unless current product documentation confirms automatic synchronization.
| Option | Networks listed | Data behavior described | Placement described |
|---|---|---|---|
| Social Pulse | YouTube, Facebook, X, Steam (WordPress.org listing) | Leader retrieves values directly and caches them; Follower reads values prefetched by a Leader (WordPress.org listing) | Shortcode |
| Social Counter & Sharer | Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, TikTok, Vimeo, YouTube, Tumblr, VKontakte (11 networks; WordPress.org listing accessed 2026) | Statistics described as static (WordPress.org listing) | Widget or shortcode |
| Blockenberg Social Stats | Platform-branded social statistics (specific platform list not stated in its documentation) | Data source and refresh method not stated in its documentation | Gutenberg block |
These descriptions are product-specific, not a guarantee that every installation will connect successfully. Check current compatibility, authorization requirements, and update history for the plugin or block you choose.

Pick the right WordPress implementation
Use a counter plugin for a shortcode or widget
A dedicated counter plugin is the most direct fit when you want counts placed in a page, post, or widget area. Choose one only after confirming that it supports your networks and that its data behavior matches your needs. A cached or prefetched value can be useful, but it is not necessarily a count refreshed at the moment a visitor loads the page. A static value may be suitable for simple social proof if you are prepared to maintain it and label it honestly.
Use a Gutenberg block for block-editor placement
Blockenberg’s Social Stats block is a block-based display option for follower counts, subscriber milestones, and engagement metrics with platform-branded icons. Its documentation establishes the presentation option, but not a live API connection or refresh schedule. Confirm how values are entered and updated before presenting the block as an automatic counter.
Do not assume a social feed plugin is a follower counter
Social Slider Feed and Easy Social Feed focus on displaying social posts and feeds. A feed plugin may show profile information, but that alone does not establish that it provides reliable, current follower counts. Use a feed tool for counts only if its current feature documentation specifically confirms the capability.
Add the counts to a page, post, or widget area
- Choose the networks and data behavior. Check the plugin or block’s current listing and documentation for platform support, authorization needs, and whether values are fetched, cached, prefetched, or static.
- Install and configure the selected option. Follow that product’s current WordPress setup instructions. Exact menus and connection steps vary by product and can change, so do not assume one plugin’s instructions apply to another.
- Place the display. For a shortcode-based plugin, copy its documented shortcode into the desired page or post. For a widget-based option, add its widget in the relevant widget area. For a block, open the page or post in the WordPress editor and insert the documented social-statistics block.
- Check the published result. Preview the front end on desktop and mobile. Confirm that each count is labeled clearly and that displayed values are not unexpectedly stale.
Check platform access and keep counts credible
Social integrations can change when platform APIs or account rules change. Social Slider Feed’s changelog records that personal Instagram accounts were removed after a Meta API change. Easy Social Feed’s listing also describes account eligibility and API-dependent features. These examples do not establish a universal rule for every counter plugin; they show why you should verify the chosen product’s current requirements, especially for Instagram.

- Confirm that the plugin supports the exact platform and account type you use.
- Check whether the platform requires account authorization, API access, or particular eligibility.
- Find out how often values refresh and what visitors see if a platform request fails; the product descriptions above do not provide a complete failure-handling comparison.
- Use a clear label or update approach if counts are static or not refreshed on each page view.
