It shows each subscriber’s available name or email address, subscription type, email status, subscription date and row actions. You can open a record for more details, remove a subscriber or download the entire list as a CSV file.
“Following” can also mean a WordPress.com Reader follow or a social-media follow. Those are not the same as an email subscription, and the subscriber screen should not be treated as a complete identity list for every Reader or social follower.
Check your WordPress.com email subscribers
- Sign in to WordPress.com and open the site dashboard.
- Go to Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers.
- Review the subscriber rows. Available fields include the person’s name or email address, subscription type, email-subscription status and subscription date.
- Open a row’s menu to view the individual’s details or remove that subscriber.
- Use the page’s download option to export the full subscriber list as a CSV file.
This is the documented owner view for people subscribed to receive the site’s posts. A person’s email address is visible to the site owner when that person subscribes to a WordPress.com blog.
If your site is self-hosted WordPress.org
On a self-hosted installation, the documented workflow requires the Jetpack plugin to be installed and connected. Jetpack adds the Subscribe block and the newsletter management tools; they are not automatically present on every WordPress.org installation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
#1 Best Overall
- Install Jetpack from your WordPress dashboard’s plugin screen.
- Connect Jetpack to a WordPress.com account when prompted.
- Add or enable the Subscribe block so visitors can subscribe.
- After subscriptions are available, open Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers to manage the list.
If that menu is missing, confirm that Jetpack is connected and up to date, then check that you are viewing the correct site in the dashboard. A different newsletter plugin may keep its subscriber records in its own interface instead.
Know which kind of “follower” you mean
| Audience type | What the person does | Where the owner checks records | Email delivery | Identity-list limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Email subscriber | Subscribes to the site’s posts, potentially by email | Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers | Depends on the email-subscription status | Records shown are the subscribers held by this newsletter system |
| WordPress.com Reader follower | Uses Reader to keep up with posts from followed sites | Reader is the reader-facing follow and reading experience | A Reader follow and an email subscription are related but not identical | The cited owner guidance does not establish a complete roster of Reader-only follows |
| Social follower | Follows an account on a social network | The relevant social network’s account tools | Not implied by a WordPress subscription | Social identities are not supplied by the WordPress subscriber list |
Some Subscribe-block displays can include social followers in their count. Therefore, a headline number is not always the number of people currently eligible to receive email.

Check totals and engagement in Stats
For aggregate reporting, open Stats → Subscribers. The view reports the site’s all-time email-subscriber total, a free-versus-paid email-subscriber breakdown, subscriber growth, and emails with opens and clicks.
These are site-specific dashboard figures, not a universal WordPress benchmark. For person-level engagement, return to Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers, open the row menu and choose View.
Rank #3
Find who is currently receiving email
Use the subscriber list’s filter for Email Subscription status when you need an actionable recipient list. A record can remain in the database even when delivery is not active:
- Active/eligible statuses: identify subscriptions currently opted in according to the dashboard.
- Bounced: delivery to the address has failed, so the person may not be receiving new messages.
- Paused: emails are temporarily stopped even though the subscriber record remains.
For campaign planning, rely on the filtered email-status results rather than a general Subscribe-block count.
What you can and cannot learn from the list
You can see
- The available name or email address for email subscribers.
- Subscription type, email status and subscription date.
- Individual record details and available engagement information.
- A downloadable CSV of the subscriber records.
You cannot assume
- That every WordPress.com Reader-only follower appears in the owner’s newsletter list.
- That a social follower is included as an identifiable WordPress subscriber.
- That every listed record is currently receiving email; bounced and paused statuses require attention.
- That a displayed follower or subscriber total has the same definition in every dashboard view.
Quick troubleshooting
The Subscribers menu is not there
Verify that you are in the site dashboard, not the general WordPress.com account area. On WordPress.org, install and connect Jetpack first; without that connection, the documented Subscribe and subscriber-management workflow is unavailable.
The count is higher than the email list
Check whether the count comes from a Subscribe block that includes social followers. Then open Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers and filter by Email Subscription status.

Find the record and inspect its email status. A bounced address or paused subscription can explain why the record exists without current delivery.
You need a separate newsletter system
Self-hosted owners can choose another newsletter plugin, such as MailPoet, but that creates a separate workflow. Its current features and pricing should be checked in the plugin’s own documentation before migration or comparison.
The Bottom Line
To see identifiable WordPress email followers, use Jetpack → Newsletter → Subscribers; filter by email status to find current recipients and export the list when needed. Treat Reader follows and social followers as separate audiences whose complete identities are not provided by that screen.
