There is no honest single “best” WordPress affiliate plugin. Link cloakers, product-box builders, click analytics, and software for recruiting your own affiliates solve different problems. Choose the tool that matches your workflow first; compare price, integrations, maintenance, and current compatibility only after that.
The evidence currently supports a practical shortlist of nine named tools. It does not support a reliable ten-way ranking or a claim that one product wins every category.
Start with the job you need to do

These categories are not interchangeable. A plugin that redirects your outbound links does not automatically run an affiliate program for your own store.
Link-management plugins for outbound affiliate links
ThirstyAffiliates: the strongest documented all-round link manager
The WordPress.org listing describes affiliate-link management, branded redirects, click statistics, and reporting. Its Pro description adds product displays, automatic keyword linking, advanced reporting, geolocation, Amazon Product Advertising API importing, CSV import/export, and broken-link checks. Use it when you want a central link library, readable URLs on your domain, and optional display or link-health features. The vendor’s pricing page lists annual tiers; displayed prices may be introductory and renewals can differ, so check the live page before purchase.
Pretty Links: established shortlist candidate
The WordPress.org affiliate-links category describes Pretty Links as a URL shortener and link manager for shortening, branding, and tracking URLs on your own domain. The source reviewed here did not verify its individual plan split, current limits, or compatibility details. Treat those points as unverified and confirm them on the current product listing before committing.
Lasso Lite: basic branded link organization
The Lasso Lite listing identifies it as Lasso’s free WordPress affiliate plugin and shows branded /go/ links for everyday link management. The evidence here does not establish the current boundary between Lite and paid Lasso features, so verify that boundary before planning a migration or display-heavy workflow.
BetterLinks and Easy Affiliate Links
Search results place BetterLinks among WordPress short-link, redirect, and affiliate-management tools. Easy Affiliate Links also appears in the affiliate-link category. Detailed feature matrices, current pricing, and compatibility were not established in the available sources; use their official listings to check redirect behavior, reporting, import tools, and maintenance history.
Product displays and comparison tables
AAWP: Amazon-focused presentation
AAWP positions itself as an Amazon affiliate WordPress plugin. Its vendor toolbox article describes displays including bestseller lists, new releases, and comparison tables (AAWP toolbox). This is vendor documentation, not independent proof that it is the best option. Confirm your Amazon Product Advertising API eligibility, data-refresh requirements, supported marketplaces, and current program policies before relying on live product data.
AffiliateX
AffiliateX appears in the WordPress.org affiliate-link category as a product-display option. The source set does not verify its current templates, integrations, pricing, or compatibility. Check its current official listing before using it for production comparison tables.
If you only need occasional links, a full product-display system may add unnecessary templates and maintenance. If you publish many changing products, structured displays and an approved merchant API can be more valuable than another shortening feature.

ThirstyAffiliates documents click statistics and reporting, with more advanced reporting listed among Pro features. Decide whether its reports answer your question (for example, clicks by link and date) or whether you also need conversion data from the merchant’s dashboard.

MonsterInsights: analytics-layer measurement
MonsterInsights publishes a guide to seeing top-performing affiliate links in WordPress (guide). Its role is analytics configuration rather than replacing a redirect manager. You may still need a cloaking or link-management plugin to create stable links, categorize destinations, and change a target once without editing every post.
- Define the event or outbound-click rule you will measure.
- Use consistent link names and campaign conventions.
- Check consent, cookie, and analytics settings for your audience and jurisdiction.
- Compare clicks with the merchant’s reported orders; a click is not a commission.
Running an affiliate program for your own products
AffiliateWP
AffiliateWP’s feature page describes affiliate registration with manual or automatic approval, referral creation and tracking through existing payment forms, and integrations including WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, and membership plugins. This is the appropriate category when other people promote your products and you need registrations, attribution, and payouts. It is not a direct substitute for a plugin that organizes the outbound links you use to promote someone else’s store.
Before launch, map the full workflow: application, approval, tracking window, commission rules, refunds, self-referrals, fraud review, payment schedule, and affiliate communications. Confirm each rule is supported by the current extension and payment integration you plan to use.
How to choose without a misleading “best” score
- Write the primary job. Choose link management, product presentation, click analytics, or an owned affiliate program.
- List merchant dependencies. Amazon displays may depend on API access and marketplace rules; other merchants may provide only ordinary destination URLs.
- Check the redirect and data model. Verify branded paths, temporary versus permanent redirects, bulk editing, import/export, and what happens if a plugin is deactivated.
- Check reporting boundaries. Establish whether reports count clicks, unique visitors, outbound events, or commissions, and where that data is stored.
- Check WordPress and integration status. Confirm the current WordPress version, PHP requirements, editor support, caching behavior, and integrations on the vendor’s live documentation.
- Price the whole lifecycle. Include annual renewal, add-ons, API or analytics costs, migration time, and the cost of maintaining another plugin.
- Test on staging. Create representative links or product cards, click them on mobile and desktop, test redirects with caching enabled, and verify analytics events before publishing.
Disclosure is a publishing requirement, not a plugin feature
The Federal Trade Commission says you should disclose your relationship to a retailer clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation, so readers can judge the endorsement. Its example wording is: “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.” The FTC also notes that “affiliate link” alone may not tell readers that you are paid. Read the FTC FAQ.

What is not established by this shortlist
There is no comparable independent test here for speed, conversion lift, uptime, support quality, or a universal winner. Installation counts are volatile and no dated, comparable set is available. Pricing, compatibility, Amazon access, features, and partner-program terms can change; verify each on the current official page before publication or purchase. The WordPress.org affiliate-links category is useful for checking current candidates, but category placement is not a quality ranking.
The Bottom Line
Pick by workflow: ThirstyAffiliates or a comparable manager for outbound links, AAWP for Amazon-focused displays, MonsterInsights for analytics-layer click measurement, and AffiliateWP for operating your own affiliate program. Verify live documentation, costs, integrations, and disclosure placement before launch.
