Use the browser Console for images already in the page, the Network panel for images loaded by JavaScript, and GNU Wget for a bounded batch download. The fastest starting point is to open the page, press F12, choose Console, and run:
copy($$('img').map(img => img.src).join('n'));
This copies the src URL of every <img> currently present in the DOM. It does not automatically include CSS backgrounds, iframe content, images that appear only after scrolling or clicking, or files that have not loaded yet. The sections below show how to cover those cases without accidentally collecting thumbnails, tracking pixels or unrelated site assets.
Choose the method that matches the page
| Method | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| DevTools Console | Collecting URLs represented by <img> elements right now |
Misses non-DOM assets and content not yet inserted or loaded |
| DevTools Network panel | Lazy-loaded galleries, JavaScript requests, API responses and higher-resolution files | Requires a reload and manual filtering |
| GNU Wget | Repeated downloads from a bounded directory or site path | Can recurse into unrelated pages and consume disk, bandwidth and server resources |
Start with the Console when the page visibly contains all the images you need. Move to Network when images appear after scrolling or interaction. Use Wget only after defining a narrow URL scope and file policy.
Method 1: copy image URLs from the current DOM
Basic Console command
- Open the page containing the images in a desktop browser.
- Open Developer Tools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Option+I (macOS).
- Select Console. If the browser warns about pasting, type
allow pastingyourself; never paste code you do not understand. - Run the command below and paste the resulting newline-separated URLs into a text file.
copy($$('img').map(img => img.src).join('n'));
In Chromium-based DevTools, $$('img') returns the matching elements and copy() places the joined text on your clipboard. Microsoft’s DevTools guidance also shows console.table($$('img'), ['src','alt']) when you want to inspect each URL alongside its alternative text before copying.

Prefer the URL the browser actually rendered
Responsive images often contain a low-resolution src plus a better URL in srcset. currentSrc reports the candidate selected for the current viewport. This version deduplicates URLs and checks common lazy-loading attributes:
const urls = [...document.images].flatMap(img => { const values = [img.currentSrc, img.src, img.getAttribute('data-src'), img.getAttribute('data-original')]; const srcset = img.getAttribute('srcset') || img.getAttribute('data-srcset'); if (srcset) values.push(...srcset.split(',').map(part => part.trim().split(/s+/)[0])); return values; }).filter(Boolean); copy([...new Set(urls)].join('n'));
Review the list before downloading. A page can expose both a thumbnail and an original, and a single tracking pixel can technically be an <img>. Check dimensions, filenames and query parameters in the Elements panel or by opening a few URLs in a new tab.
Reveal lazy images before running the script
If the page uses loading="lazy", scroll through the entire page first so the browser inserts and requests each image. Galleries may also need a “Load more” button, a carousel advance, a filter selection or an account session. Run the collection command after each interaction, then merge and deduplicate the results.
What this method cannot see
- Images used only as CSS
background-imageor in stylesheets. - Content inside an iframe; inspect that frame separately if you are authorized to access it.
- Shadow DOM or application state that has not produced an image element.
- Images blocked by a failed request, bot check, login requirement or network error.
Method 2: collect requests in the Network panel
The Network panel records what the browser actually requests, so it is the reliable choice for JavaScript galleries, lazy loading and API-delivered assets.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open DevTools and select Network.
- Enable Preserve log if navigation or a “Load more” action would otherwise clear the list.
- Reload the page. Use the browser’s hard-reload option when you need to bypass a cached response.
- Filter by the Img resource type, or search for terms such as
jpg,png,webpor the gallery’s API path. - Scroll, click controls and open each relevant view while recording requests.
- Select a request and inspect Headers for the full URL, Initiator for the code or action that created it, and Preview or Response to confirm that it is an image rather than a pixel or sprite.
Chrome DevTools supports copying one request URL, copying all URLs, copying only filtered URLs and exporting the request list as a HAR file. Use the filtered-copy command when the list is clean; otherwise export a HAR and extract only the image requests. A HAR can contain cookies and authorization headers, so store it securely and do not publish it.

Finding the original instead of a thumbnail
Compare requests triggered by opening a thumbnail, selecting a zoom control or changing image quality. The larger file usually has different dimensions or a different path. Confirm that the response is the intended asset and not a thumbnail, sprite sheet, analytics beacon or image placeholder. If the request returns a short-lived signed URL, download it promptly and do not assume the link will remain valid.
When an API supplies the URLs
In the Network panel, filter by Fetch/XHR as well as images. Open the response body and look for fields such as url, src, image or an array of media objects. This can reveal original URLs that are never placed in the DOM. Respect authentication and access controls; copying a URL from your own logged-in browser does not grant permission to redistribute the file.
Method 3: download a bounded path with GNU Wget
GNU Wget can recursively parse HTML and CSS references, including href, src and CSS url() values. A conservative example for a gallery directory is:
wget -r -l1 --no-parent -A.jpg,.jpeg,.png,.gif,.webp https://example.com/gallery/
What each option does
-renables recursive retrieval.-l1limits traversal to one link level below the starting URL.--no-parentprevents Wget from ascending above/gallery/.-Aaccepts only the listed filename suffixes or patterns.
The GNU Wget manual uses the related pattern wget -r -l1 --no-parent -A.gif http://www.example.com/dir/. Adjust the starting URL and extensions to your authorized scope. If links lead to another host, add an explicit domain rule such as -D example.com and test it on a small path first.
Query strings and file-type filters
Some image URLs look like /image?id=123 or /resize/photo and have no extension in the filename. Wget’s accept/reject matching uses the filename portion, so an extension filter can exclude these valid images. In that case, collect and review URLs with DevTools first, or use a narrowly scoped include rule rather than accepting every response from the site.

Limit load before you start
Recursive retrieval should be used with care. Keep the depth and domain narrow, add a delay between requests, and watch disk usage. A broad crawl can overload the remote server and consume local storage, bandwidth and CPU. Stop the job if it begins following navigation, search or calendar links outside the intended gallery.
Turn a URL list into downloaded files
After collecting URLs into images.txt, a small Python script can save them with predictable names and continue past individual failures:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsfrom pathlib import Path
from urllib.parse import urlparse
from urllib.request import Request, urlopen
out = Path('downloaded-images')
out.mkdir(exist_ok=True)
for number, raw in enumerate(Path('images.txt').read_text().splitlines(), 1):
url = raw.strip()
if not url:
continue
try:
request = Request(url, headers={'User-Agent': 'Mozilla/5.0'})
with urlopen(request, timeout=60) as response:
data = response.read()
content_type = response.headers.get_content_type()
extension = { 'image/jpeg': '.jpg', 'image/png': '.png', 'image/gif': '.gif', 'image/webp': '.webp' }.get(content_type, Path(urlparse(url).path).suffix or '.bin')
(out / f'image-{number:04d}{extension}').write_bytes(data)
print(f'saved {url}')
except Exception as error:
print(f'failed {url}: {error}')
This script does not bypass logins, CAPTCHAs, robots restrictions or signed-link expiry. For a large job, add a deliberate pause, a maximum response size and a retry policy appropriate to the site owner’s limits.
Validate the collection before you rely on it
- Count: compare the number of visible images, Console URLs and downloaded files. Differences usually indicate lazy loading, duplicates or failed requests.
- Duplicates: normalize obvious tracking parameters only when you know they do not select different content; otherwise retain the complete URL.
- Dimensions: inspect several files to ensure you did not save thumbnails, placeholders or sprites.
- Format: identify files by their response content type or signature, not only by the extension.
- Access: retry a sample in a private window only if the content is public and you are authorized to do so. A URL that works only with your session may require headers or cookies.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The Console returns fewer URLs than visible images | Images are lazy-loaded, inside an iframe, CSS backgrounds or not yet inserted | Scroll and interact, inspect the frame, then use Network filtering for CSS or request assets |
| Copied URLs are thumbnails | src points to a small candidate while the original is in srcset or a later request |
Use currentSrc, inspect srcset, and compare requests after opening the full-size view |
| Network shows many tiny files | Tracking pixels, sprites, placeholders or unrelated resources | Filter by Img, inspect Preview and dimensions, and check the Initiator |
| Wget downloads HTML instead of images | The path contains navigation links or an image endpoint without a recognized suffix | Reduce recursion depth, use --no-parent, tighten domain rules and verify response content types |
| Wget misses URLs with parameters | Suffix filtering does not match the filename portion | Collect those URLs through Network or use a narrowly controlled URL list |
| A downloaded URL returns 403, 401 or a bot page | The server requires authorization, a session, a referrer or human verification | Do not attempt to defeat the control; use an authorized export or request access from the site owner |
| The browser shows an image but the saved file is blank or incomplete | Transient timeout, expired signed URL or a failed response | Check the response status and Preview, recapture a fresh URL and retry selectively |
Performance, reliability and cost considerations
The Console is effectively free and instantaneous, but its result is limited to the current browser state. Network capture costs time because you must reload and reproduce interactions, yet it gives the strongest evidence of what the page requested. Wget is efficient for a small, stable directory and inefficient for an open-ended site crawl. Set a maximum scope before starting, keep a log of failures, and reserve enough disk space for the largest possible response set.
Cache behavior can hide requests on a reload. Preserve the Network log, use a hard reload when appropriate, and do not interpret a missing request as proof that an image does not exist. Conversely, a request in the log is not proof that you may copy or republish the file.

Respect authorization, terms and copyright
Download only material you are authorized to use. A publicly viewable URL can still be protected by copyright, contract terms, access controls or privacy law. Keep recursion shallow and scoped, identify your workload to the site owner when appropriate, add delays, and avoid collecting personal or private media. If your goal is a visual record rather than reusable source files, a screenshot can be safer than copying the underlying assets—but it does not remove licensing obligations.

If you need a rendered snapshot of the page rather than the original image files, ScreenshotNeo makes one request to its screenshot API. It returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; it does not produce a list of individual image URLs, so use the Console or Network workflow above when you need downloadable source assets.
Example with cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/gallery -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com/gallery"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://example.com/gallery' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. One thousand screenshots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
FAQ
Can I preserve the order in which images appear?
Yes. The Console expression follows DOM order, while a Network export follows request timing. For page order, use the DOM list and then verify each URL against Network requests.
Why do two different URLs produce the same image?
Sites commonly use size, quality, cache-busting or transformation parameters. Compare the response bytes and dimensions before deciding that one URL is redundant.
Can I run these steps on a phone?
Full DevTools Console and Network workflows are designed for desktop browsers. On mobile, use a desktop session, an authorized site export, or a server-side tool that can access the page legitimately.
