A completely white page is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Start by checking the address and reloading, then open two unrelated websites. If those fail too, investigate your connection or device; if only one site is blank, a problem at that site remains possible. Next, test the page in a private window and a different browser. Those comparisons usually show whether the cause is browser data, an extension, your network, or the website itself.
Work through the checks below in order. They are designed to change one variable at a time, so you can identify the cause without permanently weakening browser security or deleting more data than necessary.
1. Establish how wide the failure is
- Verify the address. Look for a mistyped domain, an extra character, or a link that points to an old page. Select the address bar, enter the URL again, and press Enter.
- Reload once. Use the browser’s reload button or its normal reload shortcut. A transient failed response can leave a blank document.
- Open unrelated sites. Try at least two sites that are not hosted by the same organization. If they also fail, treat the problem as a connection, device, or security-software issue. If they load normally, continue with browser and site-specific tests.
- Check the connection state. Confirm Wi-Fi or Ethernet is connected, airplane mode is off, and—on public Wi-Fi—a sign-in portal has been completed.
Do not assume a white page proves that the website is down. The same visual symptom can result from a browser extension, stale site data, DNS trouble, or a page that never received a usable response.
2. Compare browser contexts before changing settings
Private or incognito window
Open the exact URL in a private window. Private browsing normally starts with a separate set of cookies and reduced access to existing browsing data. If the page works there, an extension or stored site data in your regular profile is a strong possibility.

A second browser
Try the page in another installed browser. If it works there, the original browser’s configuration, extension set, or compatibility is implicated. If the page is white in every browser, concentrate on the network, device, security software, or the site.
Use the result as a decision point

3. Repair a browser-specific white screen
Disable extensions as a controlled test
Temporarily turn off extensions in the browser’s extensions or add-ons manager. Start with ad blockers, content filters, privacy tools, script blockers, and appearance customizers because they can alter page requests or scripts. Reload the page after disabling them.
If the page returns, re-enable extensions one at a time and reload after each change. The extension that makes the white screen return is the likely conflict. Restore all unrelated protections when testing is complete; leaving security extensions disabled is not a general fix.
Clear only the affected site’s data
Use the browser’s site-information or privacy settings to remove cookies and stored data for the failing domain, rather than wiping your entire history first. Then close and reopen the tab and sign in again if the site requires an account. Clearing site data can sign you out and may remove that site’s preferences.

Update and reduce resource pressure
Install the browser’s available update and restart the browser. Close unneeded tabs and applications, and pause large downloads while testing. Limited memory or a stalled tab can prevent a page from finishing even when the connection is healthy.
Check protective software without weakening it permanently
Firewall and antivirus software can block a connection or page resource. Review their alerts and allow the browser or site only when you understand the rule. If you temporarily pause protection to test, do so briefly, visit only the affected page, and turn protection back on immediately. A successful test means the security product’s configuration needs correction; it is not a reason to browse unprotected.
4. Check network and device causes when browsers agree
Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and the access point
Verify that the device is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network or that the Ethernet cable is seated. On a managed or public network, complete any browser-based sign-in page. If possible, compare with another device on the same connection. A failure on several devices points toward the access point, router, modem, or service provider rather than one browser.
Restart the network path
Restart the modem or router using the manufacturer’s normal procedure, then wait for the connection lights and reconnect the device. Do not repeatedly power-cycle equipment while a firmware update is in progress.

Check date, time, and time zone
Make sure the operating system’s date, time, and time zone are correct. A wrong clock can interfere with secure connections and make an otherwise healthy site appear broken.
Consider DNS without using a one-size-fits-all command
DNS cache, the configured DNS server, or an ISP problem can prevent a domain from resolving. Because the correct flush and DNS-setting steps differ by operating system and version, follow current instructions for your specific system instead of pasting an unrelated command. If only one domain fails, compare it with another network or ask the site owner whether its DNS is currently changing.
5. Read the browser error when it provides one
A white page sometimes hides an error behind the address bar or a reload. These labels are clues, not proof of a single root cause:

6. Decide when to escalate
Contact the website owner
Report the problem when one site remains blank across browsers and networks, especially if other sites work. Include the exact URL, the approximate time, your browser and operating system, whether private mode changed anything, and any visible error code. Do not send passwords or session cookies.
Report a browser-specific break
If the page works in another browser but not the first, use that browser’s built-in issue-reporting route when available. Include the extension test and site-data test results so support can distinguish a compatibility defect from local configuration.
7. Avoid fixes that create new problems
- Do not delete all browsing history as a first step when site-specific data can be cleared.
- Do not leave antivirus, firewall, privacy, or script protections disabled after a diagnostic test.
- Do not repeatedly retry a failing public Wi-Fi page without completing its sign-in portal.
- Do not treat one successful reload as proof that the underlying issue is solved; test the page again after reopening the browser.

Could a white page mean my monitor is failing?
It is possible, but compare several unrelated sites and another browser or device first. If other applications and pages display normally, browser, network, or site causes are more likely than a display failure.
Should I reinstall the browser immediately?
No. Private-mode testing, extension isolation, site-specific data clearing, updating, and checking the connection are less disruptive and usually provide better diagnostic evidence.
