A white page does not identify one specific fault. First determine whether the failure affects one website or many, and whether it is limited to one browser. Then use the least disruptive browser checks before clearing data or changing security settings. If you own the site, Developer Tools can show whether JavaScript, CSS, server responses, or other resources failed.
Start with a quick scope check
- Reload once and verify the address. Check for typing errors, an extra path, or a page that eventually displays an error. Chrome’s basic loading guidance starts with checking the URL and reloading.
- Open two unrelated websites. If they are also blank or unavailable, investigate your connection, device, security software, or network before treating this as a problem with one page.
- Try the same URL in a private window. A different result points toward an extension, stored site data, or a browser preference.
- Try another browser or device. If the page works elsewhere, the original browser or profile is the likely direction. If it fails everywhere, a website, server, deployment, or shared network path is more likely.
These observations are clues, not guarantees: more than one cause can produce an identical white screen.
Fixes for visitors
Use a private window before changing anything
Open an Incognito or Private window and visit the address again. Private mode gives you a low-risk comparison without deleting your normal profile. If the page works, close the private window and continue with extension isolation.
Disable extensions one at a time
Ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, and appearance customizers can prevent scripts or styles from loading. Disable one extension, reload the page, and record the result before testing the next. Once the page works, re-enable unrelated extensions and leave only the responsible one disabled or adjust its site permission.

Check browser settings that affect rendering
- Allow JavaScript for the affected site.
- Review tracking-protection or content-blocking exceptions.
- Reset unusual page-zoom, font, or custom-style rules.
- Temporarily test with hardware acceleration changed if graphics-heavy pages alone are blank; restore the setting if it makes no difference.
Browser labels differ by platform and version, so use the settings search box for terms such as “JavaScript,” “site data,” “tracking protection,” or “hardware acceleration.” Change one setting at a time.
Clear data for only the affected site
If another browser and a private window do not help, remove cookies and cached data for that domain rather than wiping all browsing history. Site-data deletion can sign you out and may require a fresh login. Keep your password or recovery method available, then reload after the deletion.
Check device and network conditions
Restart the browser and, if several sites fail, check the connection on another device. Corporate filters, antivirus web protection, DNS failures, captive portals, low available memory, and an outage at the website can all interrupt loading. Do not disable security software permanently; use a controlled test or ask the administrator.
Report an apparently broken site
When the same URL remains blank across browsers, contact the site owner or provider. Include the complete URL, approximate time and time zone, browser and version, device and operating system, whether other pages work, and whether private mode changed the result. A screenshot and any visible error text help the owner correlate logs.

What site owners should inspect
Reproduce and compare environments
Reproduce the blank page in the affected browser and device, then compare a browser where it works. This separates browser-specific behavior from a broken deployment or shared dependency.
Open Developer Tools and reload
Open Developer Tools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows (menus differ on macOS and Linux), select Console, and reload. Follow the first meaningful error, not every warning. A stack trace and source link identify the code path that failed. In a client-rendered application, an exception during startup can leave an otherwise valid document with no visible content.
Inspect the live DOM and styles
Use the Inspector (Elements panel) to determine whether content exists but is hidden. Look for a root element with no children, a stylesheet that sets content to display:none or makes text the same color as the background, an overlay covering the page, and layout rules that place content outside the viewport. Confirm that the expected application mount point is present.
Audit Network requests
Keep Developer Tools open, select Network, reload, and filter for failed requests. Check status codes, request paths, response bodies, and the Initiator column.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
- 404: a path typo, case mismatch, missing upload, or incomplete deployment can leave critical JavaScript or CSS unavailable.
- 403 or blocked: permissions, authentication, a content-security policy, an extension, or a network filter may be stopping the resource.
- 5xx: investigate the origin server, application process, database, or upstream service.
- Pending or very slow: inspect timeouts, oversized assets, stalled APIs, and dependencies that the page waits for before rendering.
- 304: the browser is using an unchanged cached resource; verify that the cached file is the version you expect.
Correct the URL, deploy the missing asset, or fix access at the source. Do not hide the symptom by ignoring failed requests.
Verify application and server dependencies
Check database connections, server-side includes, environment variables, API responses, and critical JavaScript and CSS. A page can return an HTTP success while its rendered content is empty because required resources were blocked, too numerous, slow, or very large. Capture server logs for the same timestamp as the browser failure.
Test cache behavior after a fix
After correcting the origin, perform a force reload and test in a clean profile. If stale deployments recur, fix cache headers and asset versioning rather than asking every visitor to clear data. Compare the response headers and file contents from a fresh request with those from a cached request.
Check status and rendered content together
A 200 response is not proof that a usable page exists. Google Search Central notes that a blank, nearly blank, or error-rendered page can be interpreted as a soft 404, even when the server reports success. Inspect the rendered result and critical resources in Search Console when indexing is affected.

Diagnosis by symptom
| Observation | Likely direction | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Several unrelated sites fail | Connection, device, security software, or network | Check connectivity and device/network settings; test another browser. |
| One site fails in one browser but works elsewhere | Profile, extension, setting, or compatibility | Use private mode, isolate extensions, review site data and browser settings. |
| The same site fails across browsers | Website, server, deployment, or shared path | Report the details; inspect server and resource requests if you own the site. |
| Console error plus missing JS/CSS in Network | Code, path, deployment, or blocked resource | Trace the stack/source link, correct the asset or access, and retest. |
| Success status but empty rendered content | Rendering failure or possible soft 404 | Inspect the rendered DOM and all critical resources, not only HTTP status. |
Common errors and targeted fixes
“The page is white only after an update”
Compare the deployed asset manifest with the HTML references. A renamed or absent bundle, incorrect base path, or case-sensitive filename mismatch can stop startup. Roll back only if necessary, then correct the build or deployment so the failure cannot recur.
“It works in Private mode”
Do not immediately clear everything. Disable extensions individually, then remove site data only if the extension test fails. Recheck any custom content-blocking or JavaScript permission for that domain.
“The Console is full of warnings”
Prioritize the first reproducible exception and errors associated with failed Network requests. Deprecation warnings, analytics notices, and unrelated third-party messages may not cause the blank screen.
“Force reload fixed it temporarily”
That indicates a cache or versioning mismatch is plausible. Compare cache headers, immutable asset names, service-worker behavior, and deployment order. Publish HTML that references assets already available at the origin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a white screen be caused by my monitor?
If browser chrome and other applications display normally, compare the URL in another browser or device first. A single blank site is more often a page, browser, or network-path problem than a monitor fault.
Should I clear all browser history?
No. Start with a private window and extension isolation, then clear data for the affected site only. Site-data removal can sign you out.
Does an HTTP 200 prove the page is healthy?
No. The response can be successful while JavaScript, CSS, or other dependencies fail and the rendered page remains empty.
