Add wishlist functionality with a WooCommerce wishlist extension rather than a core catalog setting. WooCommerce’s official Wishlists extension is the most direct first-party route: it creates the required wishlist pages, supports guest and registered shoppers, works with classic and block themes, and provides blocks and shortcodes for custom layouts.
What you need before installing
- WordPress 6.8 or later.
- WooCommerce 10.4 or later.
- Administrator access to WordPress and a WooCommerce account if you choose the official extension.
Check the versions on your site before installation. A wishlist is added through an extension or plugin; it is not a setting in WooCommerce’s core catalog.
Install the official WooCommerce Wishlists extension
- Download the extension ZIP from your WooCommerce account.
- In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New.
- Select Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP file, install it, and activate it.
- After activation, review WooCommerce > Settings > Wishlists.
Activation creates five pages: Wishlists, Create a List, Manage List, Find a List, and View a List. The extension selects these pages in its Wishlist Page Options automatically. Add a wishlist link to your navigation menu yourself; the extension does not add that menu item automatically.
Choose how wishlists behave
Open WooCommerce > Settings > Wishlists and set the options that match your store’s account and sharing policy.

Easily slip it into your backpack or briefcase, making it the ultimate portable office accessory for business trips, cafes, or hybrid work setups.
Guest and account access
Decide whether visitors who are not signed in may create lists. Registered customers keep their lists indefinitely, while a guest list can be claimed when the visitor logs in or registers.
List visibility and sharing
Allow shoppers to keep lists private, share them by link, or make them public. Enable only the social-sharing options that fit your privacy and merchandising policies.

When custom integration is required
The official extension exposes wishlist data through the wc-wishlists/v1 REST API namespace, including routes for lists and list items. That is useful for a custom account dashboard, headless front end, or integration, but authenticate and authorize requests carefully and confirm the current route documentation before coding against it.
Quick Recap
Upgrade and troubleshooting checks
- If the control is missing on a classic theme, confirm the extension is active, the product is rendered by a standard WooCommerce hook, and the wishlist pages are selected in Wishlist Page Options.
- If it is missing on a block theme, edit the relevant template in Appearance > Editor and insert the registered block.
- If a shortcode shows no item, verify the product ID and that the shortcode is rendered in a product context where required.
- If guest lists behave unexpectedly, review the guest-creation and account-claiming settings, then test in a fresh private browser session.
- When upgrading from an older WooCommerce Wishlists release, review template and CSS changes. Legacy button templates, selectors, URL behavior, and filters may have changed.
- Check theme, caching, login, privacy, and other WooCommerce extensions for conflicts before changing production templates.
