The quickest way to capture an entire webpage is to use your browser’s built-in full-page command rather than the operating system’s ordinary screenshot key. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S (or open the menu and choose Web capture), select the full-page option, then save the result. In Firefox, choose Take Screenshot → Save full page. On an iPhone, take a screenshot in Safari, tap the preview, and choose Full Page.
The labels and availability can vary with browser version, device, and market, so use the browser-specific instructions below.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot extends below the fold and combines the page into one tall image (or, on some devices, a document-like capture). It is useful for saving an article, documenting a bug, reviewing a design, or sharing a page without asking someone to scroll through several images.
Full-page capture is different from a selected-area capture: the former includes the page’s complete scrollable content, while the latter records only a region you choose. Dynamic pages can still change while they are being captured, and very long pages may produce large files.

Microsoft Edge: the fastest keyboard shortcut
Use the shortcut
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows.
- In the Screenshot/Web Capture panel, choose the option for a full-page capture.
- Review the result, add markup if needed, then copy or save it.
Microsoft’s Edge feature page describes Screenshot as capturing “a full page or a selected area—including long or moving webpages,” with pen or touch markup before copying or saving. The exact wording and controls can differ by device, market, and browser version (Microsoft Edge Screenshot).
Use the menu instead
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Web capture.
- Select Capture full page.
- Annotate, copy, or save the capture.
Microsoft’s learning guide documents this menu path and notes that feature availability can vary by region (Edge Web capture guide).
When Edge is the best choice
- You are already working in Edge and want a keyboard shortcut.
- You need quick pen or touch annotations before sharing.
- You want either a whole page or a selected region from the same tool.
Firefox: save the complete page or only what is visible
Standard full-page workflow
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox presents Save full page separately from Save visible, so verify that you selected the former (Mozilla’s screenshot instructions).
Developer Tools method
For repeatable technical work, open Firefox Developer Tools and use its screenshot button. If the button is absent, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page in Available Toolbox Buttons. Firefox also provides the Web Console helper:

The helper supports options including a delay, filename, device-pixel ratio, and CSS selector. A delay is useful when a page renders content only after scripts finish (Firefox Web Console helpers).
When Firefox is the better fit
- You need to choose explicitly between the full page and the visible viewport.
- You want selector-based or delayed captures from Developer Tools.
- You need a clipboard copy instead of saving a file.
iPhone: capture an entire Safari webpage
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot with your iPhone’s hardware buttons.
- Tap the thumbnail preview when it appears.
- At the top of the editor, select Full Page.
- Crop or mark up the capture, then save or share it.
Apple documents a Safari webpage as the example for the iPhone Full Page editor. The option and interface can depend on the iPhone model and iOS version (Apple iPhone User Guide).
Which method should you use?

Choose the browser already displaying the page unless you need a capability specific to another workflow. For scripted or high-volume captures, a browser UI is usually less convenient than an API.
Preparing a page for a clean full-page capture
Let content finish loading
Scroll through the page once if it uses lazy-loaded images. Otherwise, lower sections may contain placeholders. Wait for a visible loading indicator to disappear before starting the capture.

Control overlays
Cookie dialogs, newsletter forms, chat bubbles and sticky bars can cover content. Dismiss them before capturing when possible. If a page changes while the browser is stitching the image, repeat the capture after the layout settles.
Check the result before sharing
- Confirm the bottom of the page is present.
- Look for clipped fixed-position elements or repeated headers.
- Zoom in on small text and verify that images loaded.
- Crop private information before sending the file.
Common problems and fixes
The shortcut does nothing
Make sure the browser window has focus and that another application is not intercepting the key combination. Use the context-menu or Settings and more route instead. On macOS Firefox, use Command+Shift+S rather than the Windows/Linux shortcut.
The capture contains only the visible area
You selected a visible-area command. In Edge choose Capture full page; in Firefox choose Save full page; on iPhone choose Full Page in the screenshot editor.
Images or sections are missing
Lazy loading, slow scripts, or a page that updates while being captured is usually responsible. Wait longer, scroll through the page first, or use Firefox’s Developer Tools delay option. A page that requires interaction may need to be opened and expanded before capture.
The file is extremely tall or hard to read
Capture only the relevant element or section when the tool offers that choice, or crop the saved image. For documentation, a PDF or several logically divided images may be more usable than one very tall bitmap.

A site blocks automated or repeated loading
Some sites show a bot check, CAPTCHA, blank response, or timeout. Do not attempt to bypass an access control. Capture the page manually when permitted, or use an authorized service with the site’s terms and your credentials in mind.

Reliability, performance and cost considerations
- Browser capture: no API account or per-shot charge, but results depend on the current browser session, page state, extensions, viewport and machine.
- Automation: use explicit waits for a selector, delay, or network idle; block unnecessary ads and trackers when appropriate; choose caching TTLs when repeated captures do not need fresh content.
- Large pages: full-page images consume more memory and take longer to transfer. Resize or select a single element when a complete page is unnecessary.
- Dynamic or protected pages: supply authorized headers or cookies only when you have permission, and treat bot checks and CAPTCHAs as access barriers rather than errors to evade.
