A long screenshot captures an entire web page—including content below the visible browser window—in one image. On desktop, the quickest methods are built into Microsoft Edge and Firefox: open the browser’s screenshot tool, choose the full-page option, then save or copy the result. Chrome users can use a full-page extension such as GoFullPage. If you need repeatable captures in code, an API is more reliable than manually scrolling.
What a long screenshot captures
A normal screenshot records only the current viewport. A long, scrolling, or full-page screenshot stitches the page from top to bottom, including sections you would otherwise have to scroll to see. It is designed for web content, not automatically for an entire desktop application or every nested scrolling panel inside a web app.
Before capturing, finish dismissing dialogs and make sure the page is at the top. Save the result and inspect it: browser support and page behavior can vary by device, market, browser version, page length, and site implementation.
Microsoft Edge: use Screenshot
Edge includes a Screenshot feature that can capture the whole webpage. Microsoft describes it as capturing parts of a page that would require scrolling to see.

- Open the page in Edge.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Screenshot. You can also open Edge Settings and find Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the capture overlay, choose the option for the full page rather than a selected area.
- Use the overlay controls to copy the image or save it to your computer.
Edge’s labels and availability can differ by browser version, device type, or market. If the shortcut does nothing, open the right-click menu or Settings instead, then update Edge and try again.
Firefox: choose Save full page
Firefox offers a direct full-page choice as well as a visible-viewport capture.
- Load the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. Keyboard shortcuts are Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows and Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page. Do not choose Save visible, which records only the current viewport.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s Screenshots support documentation says the feature records interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but not the URL or details of the captured image. Firefox also provides settings to disable that data collection.
Firefox Developer Tools method
Developer Tools provide a second route when the page screenshot control is unavailable or you need more control.

- Open Developer Tools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (use Command+Option+I on macOS).
- Find the camera icon for taking a screenshot. If it is missing, open Developer Tools Settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Use the full-page screenshot button and save the generated file.
Firefox’s Web Console also has a :screenshot helper. The --fullpage option requests a full-page image; the helper can additionally set a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, or CSS selector. Exact console syntax can vary with Firefox releases, so inspect the command’s built-in help if an option is rejected.
Chrome: install a full-page extension
The documented route covered here is a Chrome Web Store extension. GoFullPage is an optional add-on that captures a scrolling page; its listing changelog includes version 8.7 dated August 11, 2026. Treat extension behavior as version-dependent and review its permissions before installation.
- Install GoFullPage from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the page you want to capture and wait for its content to finish loading.
- Click the GoFullPage extension button. If it is hidden, open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin it.
- Let the extension scroll and assemble the page, then download the resulting image or PDF using its viewer.
Chrome’s built-in user-interface workflow is not established by the documentation used for this guide, so an extension is presented as an option rather than a required Chrome feature. Remove an extension when you no longer need it and keep Chrome updated.
Pages that need extra care
Lazy-loaded images
Some pages request images only as you approach them. Scroll through the page once, wait for images to appear, return to the top, and capture again. This is a practical precaution, not a guarantee that every lazy-loading implementation will be detected.

Virtualized lists and dashboards
Feeds, tables, and dashboards may keep only visible rows in the document. A browser screenshot can therefore omit rows that are not rendered at capture time. Look for an export function or pagination when a complete data record matters.
Embedded scrolling panels
A full-page tool generally follows the outer document. Content inside an iframe, chat panel, map, or element with its own scrollbar may not be expanded. Capture that element separately or use the application’s export feature.
Authentication and sensitive data
Capture only after signing in through the normal page. Check the image for account numbers, private messages, tokens, and personal information before sharing it. Do not upload confidential pages to an extension or service unless its terms and your organization’s policy allow it.
Very long or dynamic pages
Animations, sticky headers, ads, and content that changes while the browser scrolls can produce seams or repeated elements. Pause video where possible, wait for the layout to settle, and inspect the saved image at several points rather than trusting the thumbnail.

The capture stops at the visible area
Confirm that you selected full page rather than visible or selected area. In Firefox, use Save full page; in Edge, choose the full-page control. For Chrome, confirm the extension has permission to access the current site.

Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the page first, wait for lazy content, close overlays, and recapture. If the missing content belongs to a nested scrollbar or virtualized list, use that component’s export or capture it separately.
The result has duplicated sticky headers or seams
Sticky elements and animated layouts can move between scroll segments. Pause animations, wait for the page to settle, and try again. A selector-based or API capture may be preferable for a specific element.

- Prefer PNG for crisp interface text; choose JPEG or WebP when file size matters, or PDF when the recipient needs a document.
