Treat this as a version- and hardware-dependent option, not a format choice available on every Mac. If format matters to a workflow, check what the Screenshot panel offers on the machine you will use.
Where the built-in tool is enough—and where it may not be
For a single screen, window, or selected region, the built-in tool avoids buying and maintaining another app. Its documented capture workflow is not the same as a dedicated post-capture editor or a web-page capture service.
