To take a screenshot with Gyazo, open the Gyazo app, start a capture from its taskbar, menu-bar, dock, or configured shortcut, drag over the area you want, and release. Gyazo uploads the image automatically, opens the capture in your browser, and copies a shareable URL to your clipboard by default.
Choose the Gyazo method that matches what you need
Gyazo has two different screenshot workflows:
- Desktop app: captures a rectangular area of your entire computer screen, including content in applications other than a browser.
- Browser extension: captures a page element, a selected rectangle, the visible page, or the entire page from top to bottom.
Both workflows upload the resulting still image to Gyazo. The desktop app is the quickest choice for a region anywhere on your screen; the extension is better when you need a complete web page or a specific HTML element.
Install and open Gyazo
Windows
- Download and install the Windows version from Gyazo’s official download page.
- Launch the installed Gyazo executable.
- Keep the Gyazo icon available in the taskbar or system tray so it is easy to start a capture.
Mac
- Run the Gyazo package installer.
- Open Gyazo from the Applications folder, Dock, or menu bar.
- Allow any macOS permissions the app requests for screen capture, if prompted.
Other platforms
Gyazo lists mobile apps and browser extensions. It also lists an open-source Linux version, but says Linux is not technically supported; Video and Replay are unavailable there. Check Gyazo’s current system-requirements page before relying on a particular operating-system version or feature.
Take a desktop screenshot
- Open the page, window, document, or application you want to capture.
- Click the Gyazo icon in the Windows taskbar/system tray or the Mac menu bar/Dock. You can use a configured desktop shortcut instead.
- Move the pointer to one corner of the desired region.
- Press and hold the mouse button or trackpad, drag across the area, and release.
- Wait while Gyazo uploads the selection. A capture page normally opens in your default browser, and the capture URL is copied to the clipboard.
Because this is a screen-area capture, you can select content from a browser, a desktop application, a video-call window, or several visible windows at once. Anything inside the selected rectangle is included, so check for passwords, private messages, or other sensitive information before sharing.

Share the result
Paste the copied URL into a chat, email, issue tracker, document, or social post. Gyazo also documents Markdown and HTML embed options when you need an image rather than a plain link. The automatic browser-tab and clipboard behavior can be changed in Gyazo’s settings; on Windows, Gyazo documents an option to prevent opening a new tab after each capture.
Capture a web page with the Gyazo extension
Install the Gyazo extension in a supported browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. The extension adds page-aware modes that the desktop app cannot provide.
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Click the Gyazo extension button, or use the extension shortcut configured in your browser’s extension-shortcuts settings.
- Choose a capture mode: element, selection, visible page, or whole page.
- Complete the selection if the mode requires one, then let Gyazo create and upload the image.
Extension capture modes

Whole-page mode combines the scrolling page into one still image. It is different from the desktop app, which captures only the pixels currently inside the rectangle you drag.
Keyboard controls
After launching the Chrome extension, Gyazo documents these mode keys:

- E: select an element.
- S: select an area.
- P: capture the visible page.
- W: capture the whole page.
You can assign or change the extension’s launch shortcut through the browser’s extension-shortcuts settings. The extension supports still images; it does not support Gyazo Video or Replay.

Use the desktop app for a quick, application-independent region. Use the extension when page structure or full-page depth matters.
Shortcuts and settings
Desktop shortcut keys are built into the Gyazo app. If a shortcut conflicts with another program, start the capture from the tray, taskbar, menu bar, or Dock instead, then review Gyazo’s shortcut settings. For Chrome, configure the extension shortcut in the browser—not only in Gyazo’s desktop preferences.
Review upload and sharing preferences if you do not want a new browser tab opened after every shot, or if you need to change how the capture URL is copied. The default behavior is designed for immediate sharing, but it is not the only available behavior.

A desktop capture is uploaded to Gyazo and receives a unique URL. Gyazo’s upload guidance says captures remain on its server and can be accessed through their URLs without upgrading. Access to older captures from the account’s Captures page has separate restrictions for free accounts, so save or organize important links rather than assuming the account view will retain every historical item indefinitely.
Before uploading confidential material, remove secrets from the selected area or use an approved private sharing workflow. A copied URL is convenient, but anyone who obtains a capture URL may be able to view that capture.

Troubleshooting Gyazo screenshots
The Gyazo icon is missing
Confirm that Gyazo is running. On Windows, check the taskbar or hidden system-tray icons; on Mac, check the menu bar, Dock, or Applications folder. Relaunch the app if it has exited, then try the built-in shortcut.
The capture does not start
Another application may own the same shortcut, or the operating system may be waiting for screen-recording permission. Start Gyazo from its icon, assign a different shortcut, and review the relevant Windows or macOS privacy permission. A managed work computer may prevent screen capture entirely.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
For a desktop shot, make sure the target was visible inside the rectangle when you released the pointer. Protected video, DRM windows, minimized content, and hardware-accelerated surfaces can appear black or empty to screenshot tools. For a web page, try the extension’s visible-page mode first, then whole-page mode; dynamic pages may change while they are being stitched.
Whole-page capture misses content
Wait for the page to finish loading, dismiss overlays, and scroll once if the site loads images only when they enter the viewport. If the page uses an internal scroll container rather than the browser window, select that container as an element or use a desktop capture of the needed region.
The browser tab or URL is not copied
Check Gyazo’s sharing settings and your clipboard permissions. The automatic new-tab and clipboard actions are defaults and can be changed. You can also open the capture from Gyazo’s notification or history and copy its URL manually.

Uploads are slow or fail
Verify the network connection, retry after the page finishes loading, and check whether a firewall, proxy, ad blocker, or corporate policy is blocking Gyazo. A very large whole-page image can take longer to process than a small selection. If the service is unavailable, retain a local screenshot from the operating system as a temporary fallback.

Can Gyazo capture an entire scrolling webpage?
Yes. The Gyazo browser extension has a whole-page mode that combines content from the top of the page to the bottom into one still image.
Does Gyazo save screenshots locally by default?
The documented desktop workflow uploads the capture to Gyazo and creates a shareable URL. Keep a separate local screenshot if you need an offline copy.
Can I use Gyazo for video recordings?
The browser extension is for still images and does not support Gyazo Video or Replay. Those are separate desktop features where Gyazo supports them.
Is Gyazo officially supported on Linux?
Gyazo lists an open-source Linux version but says it does not provide technical support for Linux.
