Yes. Snagit can capture content that extends beyond the visible screen, including long webpages and data tables, with vertical and horizontal scrolling capture. Start an All-in-One capture, select the scrolling arrow, move through the page, and finish in Snagit Editor. Automatic scrolling is not guaranteed on every browser, page, operating system, or Snagit release, so this guide also covers manual and PDF-specific fallbacks.
What Snagit scrolling capture does
TechSmith’s support guidance, updated June 11, 2026, explicitly confirms that Snagit supports scrolling capture “vertically and horizontally.” The feature is designed to combine content that is not currently visible on screen into one capture. Typical examples are a full webpage, a long spreadsheet, or a table that extends below and beside the window.
Scrolling capture is different from taking several ordinary screenshots and stitching them yourself. Snagit controls the capture while the target window scrolls, then opens the completed image in Snagit Editor so you can save or share it. The result still depends on how the target application renders and scrolls its content.
How to capture a scrolling webpage in Snagit
- Open Snagit and choose All-in-One capture. Use Snagit’s main capture controls rather than taking a standard region screenshot.
- Bring the webpage to the front. Put the browser window and the page you want to capture in view. If the page has a fixed header or overlay, close or move it when possible.
- Start the capture. Select the browser window or the page region you want Snagit to analyze.
- Choose the scrolling arrow. Snagit displays an orange arrow for a direction it can detect. Select the downward arrow for a vertical page or the side arrow for horizontally scrolling content.
- Let the page move through the capture. Keep the browser in the same position while Snagit scrolls. Do not drag the window or switch applications during the operation.
- Finish in Snagit Editor. When the scroll reaches the end, Snagit opens the combined image in Snagit Editor. Review the top, bottom, and joins, then save or share it from the editor.
Manual scrolling when you need more control
If the automatic arrows do not appear, or if you need to decide exactly how far the page moves, use Snagit’s manual approach. Start the capture, then scroll with the target window’s scrollbar or mouse wheel while Snagit records the content. Manual movement is slower, but it can help with pages whose controls or layout confuse automatic detection.

Which capture method fits the content?
| Situation | Best first choice | Fallback or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary long webpage | All-in-One capture with the orange vertical scrolling arrow | Use manual scrolling or the dedicated Scrolling Capture workflow if the arrow is missing. |
| Wide table or spreadsheet | All-in-One capture with the horizontal arrow | Capture in smaller sections manually if the application cannot expose a horizontal scroll direction. |
| Page with unusual movement or parallax effects | Manual scrolling or several smaller captures | TechSmith warns that parallax pages can be difficult for scrolling capture. |
| PDF opened in a reader | Try the reader-specific guidance and Snagit’s PDF alternatives | Use panoramic scrolling or Snagit Printer when the PDF reader is not detected correctly. |
| Application that does not expose a usable scrollbar | Resize the window and try Scrolling Capture | Another browser, a private window, or manual captures may be necessary. |
What to try when automatic scrolling fails
A missing arrow or a broken result does not necessarily mean Snagit lacks the feature. Scrolling capture depends on the page structure, browser, operating system, Snagit release, display drivers, security software, and other utilities running on the computer. Work through these fixes in order.
1. Switch to Scrolling Capture
Snagit documents a separate Scrolling Capture workflow for cases where the normal All-in-One arrows do not appear or do not complete the page. Select Scrolling Capture from Snagit’s capture controls, select the target window, and try the vertical or horizontal direction again.
2. Resize the target window
Make the browser or application large enough that the content and its scrollbar are clearly visible. A very narrow window, a maximized layout with hidden controls, or a window partly covered by another application can prevent detection.
3. Keep the scrollbar outside the selected area
When selecting a region, leave the scrollbar outside that region if possible. Including the scrollbar in the capture area can interfere with the scroll operation or produce a repeated bar in the final image.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors4. Disable floating toolbars and overlays
Temporarily close browser toolbars, floating widgets, chat panels, accessibility overlays, and other utilities that sit above the page. These can intercept the wheel or alter the area Snagit is trying to follow.

5. Scroll smoothly in one direction
Avoid changing direction, dragging the scrollbar thumb abruptly, or clicking inside a second pane while the capture is running. A steady movement in one direction gives Snagit a more consistent sequence of frames to combine.
6. Test another browser or a private window
Browser extensions, injected scripts, and profile settings can change how a page scrolls. Repeat the capture in a different supported browser or in a private window with extensions disabled. If one browser works and another does not, the difference is environmental rather than proof that the page has no scrollable content.
7. Return browser zoom to 100 percent
Non-default zoom can change the relationship between CSS pixels, the viewport, and the scrollbar. Set the browser to 100 percent, reload the page, and retry before changing other settings.

Screen utilities, endpoint security tools, graphics drivers, and window-management software can interfere with automated scrolling. If the failure is consistent, temporarily close nonessential utilities and check whether the behavior changes. Keep your security software enabled unless your organization’s policy permits a controlled test.
Platform and special-case behavior
macOS App Store release
TechSmith documents cases where the macOS App Store release does not show scrolling arrows. The available workaround depends on the Snagit version and macOS installation, so check TechSmith’s current macOS troubleshooting instructions before assuming the feature is unavailable. Trying Scrolling Capture or manual scrolling may still provide a usable result.

PDF readers
PDF applications can be detected differently from browsers. If Snagit does not recognize the PDF reader’s scroll area, TechSmith suggests alternatives such as panoramic scrolling or Snagit Printer for relevant PDF-capture cases. The correct option depends on the reader, operating system, and Snagit release.
Parallax and dynamically changing pages
Parallax effects, sticky elements, animations, and content that redraws while you scroll can create jumps, duplicated sections, or seams. Capture a shorter section, disable the page effect if the site offers a setting, or use manual scrolling and inspect every join in Snagit Editor.

- Confirm that the capture includes the first and last required rows or sections.
- Inspect joins for duplicated text, missing lines, stretched images, and abrupt changes in fixed headers.
- Check both dimensions: a page can finish vertically while a nested table still requires horizontal scrolling.
- Look for lazy-loaded images or sections that appeared only after the page moved; recapture after they finish loading if necessary.
- Keep the original Snagit project until you have verified the exported PNG, JPEG, or PDF.
Or skip the browser setup
For automated webpage screenshots, ScreenshotNeo provides a direct HTTP API and an MCP server for AI agents. It accepts a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF without requiring you to install a browser-automation stack. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and every response identifies the result with the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
One GET request
Get an API key, then replace YOUR_API_KEY and the URL in this example. The ScreenshotNeo documentation lists the request parameters and response behavior.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Useful controls for long or interactive pages
- Capture the full page, including lazy-loaded images, or select one element with a CSS selector.
- Set a device preset, custom viewport, dark mode, retina scale, image format, transparent background, or output resize.
- Wait for a selector, a fixed delay, or network idle; click an element before capture; hide selectors; and run custom CSS or JavaScript.
- Block ads, trackers, requests, or resource types. Supply custom headers, cookies, a user agent, an Authorization header, timezone, or geolocation when the page requires them.
- Produce PDFs with paper size, margins, landscape mode, and page ranges; submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; capture up to 100 URLs per bulk call; choose a cache TTL; create signed links for public
<img>tags; and query usage through the usage API or OpenAPI specification. - Existing integrations can often switch parameter names directly because names used by other screenshot APIs are accepted.

Bottom line
Snagit can capture both vertical and horizontal scrolling content. Start with All-in-One capture and the orange scrolling arrow, then use manual scrolling, Scrolling Capture, panoramic scrolling, or Snagit Printer when the page, browser, platform, or PDF reader prevents a clean automatic result. For repeatable URL-based captures without browser setup, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative that removes common overlays before capture and does not bill failed or unusable loads.
