For a visible part of a webpage on Windows, press Windows+Shift+S, choose a Snipping Tool capture mode, and select the area. For an entire page—including content below the fold—open the page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, review it, and save. The right method depends on whether you need a region, window, screen, or the complete scrolling document.

Windows and Edge provide these core workflows without installing a separate screenshot utility. Edge’s exact labels and availability can vary by device, market, and browser version, so an option may appear differently in your installation.
Capture a visible webpage with Windows Snipping Tool
Microsoft documents Snipping Tool for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It can capture a rectangle, freeform shape, window, or full screen, then open the still image for editing, saving, sharing, or copying.
- Bring the webpage and the content you want into view.
- Press Windows logo key+Shift+S. This opens the Snipping Tool image-capture overlay. Do not confuse it with Windows+Shift+R, which Microsoft assigns to video clips.
- Choose a mode from the overlay: Rectangle, Freeform, Window, or Full screen.
- Select the content. For Rectangle, drag around the area; for Freeform, draw the outline; for Window, select the browser window; for Full screen, the entire display is captured.
- Open the notification or Snipping Tool window to review the image. Use its markup tools if needed, then choose save, copy, or share.
Use Rectangle mode for most webpage snippets
Rectangle mode is predictable for documentation, bug reports, and sharing a visible portion of a page. Zoom the browser first if text is too small, but remember that zoom changes what fits in the viewport.

Use Window or Full screen when context matters
Window mode preserves the browser window as displayed. Full-screen mode includes every visible application and monitor element, so check the image for unrelated information before sharing it.
Use a delay for menus and temporary content
Snipping Tool’s delay setting helps when a menu, tooltip, or other transient element must be visible at capture time. Set the delay, open the webpage state you need, and let the countdown finish.
Print Screen as a quick alternative
Microsoft’s current instructions list Print Screen (PrtSc) as capturing the entire screen to the clipboard. Paste it into an image editor, document, or chat, then save or crop it. On some keyboards you may need Fn with PrtSc; the exact key behavior is hardware-dependent.
Capture an entire scrolling webpage in Microsoft Edge
A normal screen capture cannot include content that has not been displayed. Edge’s built-in Screenshot (also called Web Capture in its instructions) can capture beyond the viewport.

- Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the target URL.
- Open Edge’s Settings and more menu and choose Screenshot or Web Capture, depending on the browser build. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Wait while Edge assembles the page, then review the resulting image.
- Annotate or copy it if required, and choose save to write the capture to your device.
Full-page capture is useful for an article, terms page, landing page, or support ticket where readers need the complete document in one image. Very long or highly dynamic pages can take longer to assemble and may not look identical to a static print layout.
Capture only part of a webpage in Edge
- Open Screenshot/Web Capture with Ctrl+Shift+S or the browser menu.
- Select Capture area.
- Drag over the desired webpage region.
- Review the result, then mark it up, copy it, or save it.
Microsoft says Edge can capture areas outside the currently visible viewport. Moving content such as a GIF or carousel can remain active while you select the frame you want, so pause or position animated content before committing the capture.
Make the result readable and safe to share
Check lazy-loaded images and interactive sections
Scroll through the page once before capturing if images appear only after entering the viewport. For a full-page image, verify that sections, charts, and embedded media were rendered rather than replaced by blank placeholders.
Control layout before you capture
- Close cookie notices, chat panels, and promotional overlays when they obscure the content you need.
- Set a sensible browser zoom. Higher zoom improves legibility but can make a full-page image substantially wider or taller.
- For animated areas, wait for the frame that conveys the information or use a visible-area capture instead of a full-page one.
- Review the final image for passwords, addresses, account numbers, or other private data before sending it.
Save in a useful format
Use PNG when text and interface edges must remain crisp. JPEG can produce smaller files for photographic pages but may introduce compression artifacts. If the recipient needs selectable text or pagination, a PDF workflow may be more suitable than a single raster image.

Troubleshooting common problems
The shortcut does nothing
Press the Windows logo key, Shift, and S together. If you are using a compact keyboard, try Fn with the relevant key. A managed computer may restrict Snipping Tool; check with your administrator or open it from the Start menu.

The capture contains only what was visible
Windows+Shift+S captures screen content, not a document’s hidden lower sections. Use Edge Screenshot and choose Capture full page.
Capture full page is missing
Update Edge, confirm you are using the desktop browser, and look in Settings and more for Screenshot/Web Capture. Microsoft notes that feature behavior can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
The full-page image has blank sections
Reload the page, allow lazy-loaded content to appear, disable a blocking extension for that site, and try again. Dynamic or access-controlled pages may not render consistently in a browser capture.
A cookie banner or chat widget covers the page

The file is too large to send
Crop to the relevant region, lower browser zoom, export to JPEG when photographic content dominates, or resize the output. For long documents, a PDF with page ranges may be easier for recipients to open.
