On a Mac, use Safari > File > Export as PDF, or use File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF when Export is unavailable. On iPhone or iPad, use the page’s Markup action and save to Files; for a long, scrolling page, use a Safari screenshot, choose Full Page, then save the PDF. The exact menu name can vary with your operating-system version and Safari tab layout.

A Safari PDF is a rendered snapshot. It is suitable for reading, printing, sharing, and annotation, but it does not retain every interactive behavior of the original website. Let the page finish loading before exporting so images and lazy-loaded sections have a chance to appear.
Save a web page as a PDF on a Mac
Method 1: Export the current page
- Open the page in Safari and wait until its text and images finish loading.
- Choose File > Export as PDF if that command is shown.
- Enter a filename, choose a destination, and select Save.
The resulting PDF is written directly to the location selected in the macOS save dialog. If you cannot remember the location, repeat the command and note the folder shown before cancelling, or search for the filename in Finder.
Method 2: Use the print sheet when Export as PDF is missing
- With the page open, choose File > Print.
- Set the printer and any available print options. You can adjust the page range, choose monochrome output, and change pages per sheet.
- Open the PDF menu in the lower-left corner of the macOS print sheet.
- Choose Save as PDF.
- Set the filename and destination, then select Save.
This route is also the better choice when you need only selected pages or a specific print arrangement. The print settings become part of the saved document, so check the preview before saving.

Mac capture checks
- Scroll through the page first if it loads content only as you reach it. A section that has not loaded may be absent from the PDF.
- Close or dismiss overlays that you do not want included. A PDF records what Safari rendered at capture time.
- If the print preview breaks a table or cuts off a column, try a different orientation, scale, or pages-per-sheet setting before saving.
- For a page that requires sign-in, confirm that you are in the correct Safari profile or account before exporting. The PDF contains the view currently available to that session.
Save a web page as a PDF on iPhone
Standard Markup workflow
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu button. With some tab layouts, you may instead tap Share.
- Tap Markup.
- Use the pen, highlighter, text, or other Markup tools if you need notes or highlights.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, enter a filename, select a folder, and tap Save.
The file is now in the Files location you selected, such as an iCloud Drive folder or a folder stored on the iPhone. Markup is useful when the PDF itself needs review notes rather than just a clean copy.
Make a full-page, scrolling PDF
Use this route when the page is longer than the visible screen and you need all of its scrollable content:
- In Safari, take a screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware-button screenshot shortcut.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail to open the preview.
- Select Full Page at the top of the preview.
- Review the captured pages and tap Done.
- Choose Save PDF to Files, select a destination, and save.
The Full Page option creates a multi-page PDF from the captured webpage. It is distinct from saving the ordinary screenshot image and is the most reliable built-in choice for a long article or documentation page.

Save a web page as a PDF on iPad
Share and Markup
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap Share.
- Tap More, then choose Markup.
- Add annotations if needed and tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, select a folder, name the document, and tap Save.
Use the PDF option in the share sheet
On iPad, another documented route is Share > Options > PDF > Done. Then choose Save to Files and select the destination. This is useful when you want a PDF without opening the drawing tools first.

For a long page, take a Safari screenshot, open its preview, choose Full Page, tap Done, and save the result as a PDF to Files. Check the page count and the bottom of the preview before saving; a normal screenshot without Full Page contains only the visible screen.
Where Safari saves the PDF
On macOS
Safari does not use one fixed PDF folder. Both Export as PDF and the print-sheet method ask you to choose a location. The folder and filename shown in the save dialog determine where Finder stores the document.

On iPhone and iPad
The Save File To or Save to Files step determines the destination. You can select an existing folder or create an organizational structure in Files before confirming. To find a document later, open Files and search for the filename, then check both iCloud Drive and the device’s local storage if you are unsure which location you chose.

Troubleshooting Safari PDF exports
“Export as PDF” is not listed on Mac
Use File > Print, then open the lower-left PDF menu and choose Save as PDF. This is the dependable fallback and provides more control over page ranges and print formatting.
Images or sections are missing
Wait until the page has finished loading, then scroll through sections that load on demand and try again. A PDF captures the rendered state at export time; content that has not loaded cannot be included.

The PDF has unwanted popups or a consent banner
Dismiss the overlay before exporting. If it returns, wait for the page to settle and confirm the banner is gone in the preview. Anything visible in Safari at capture time can appear in the PDF.
The printout is clipped or awkwardly paginated
Return to the print sheet and adjust orientation, scale, page range, monochrome mode, or pages per sheet. Use the preview to check wide tables and code blocks before selecting Save as PDF.
Full Page is unavailable on iPhone or iPad
Make sure you opened the screenshot preview from Safari and that the screenshot was taken while Safari was the active app. The Full Page control appears in the screenshot editor for supported app content; a regular image saved from Photos will not gain that control.

Open Files and search by the exact filename. Check the location shown under the file, including iCloud Drive and local device folders. If you used Share, the destination is not necessarily the same folder used for a previous export.
