To save a webpage as an image, use your browser’s screenshot tool and choose full page if you need content below the screen. Choose a visible-area or selection capture for just what you see. Choose the right kind of webpage screenshot
First decide how much of the page you need. A visible screenshot records only the content currently shown in the browser window. A full-page screenshot captures the document below the fold as well. A selected-area capture is useful when you need a particular section but not the whole page.
These are image captures, not ordinary print-to-PDF exports. The result can be saved as an image file or, in some browser workflows, copied to the clipboard. If you need a document that preserves pages for printing, PDF may be more suitable; if you need a picture to insert into a presentation, message, or image editor, use a screenshot workflow.

Save a full webpage as an image in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you want to capture to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the browser menu and choose Screenshot or Web capture, depending on the version shown.
- Choose Capture full page to include content below the current viewport. Choose the selected-area option instead if you only need part of the page.
- Review the capture, then save it to your device or copy it, as offered in the result view.
If the shortcut does not open the capture tool, use the browser menu. Menu wording and feature availability can differ across Edge versions, devices, and markets.
Save a full webpage as an image in Firefox
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool
- Right-click an empty area of the webpage. Avoid right-clicking an image, link, or control if you want the page context menu.
- Choose Take Screenshot.
- Select Save full page for the entire document or Save visible for the current viewport.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard from the screenshot result.
This is the most direct route when you want a full-page image without opening developer tools. For a screenshot of only what is on screen, choose Save visible; it will not include content farther down the page.
Use Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools also include a :screenshot command with a full-page option. Mozilla documents a --file option to force file output; screenshots are saved in the Downloads directory by default. Open the developer tools’ command interface, run the screenshot command with the full-page option, and use file output if you need to specify that the result should be written as a file. The command’s exact syntax and interface can vary, so consult the command help displayed by your Firefox version rather than relying on a copied command intended for another release.

On desktop Chrome, use DevTools’ Command Menu to access the full-size screenshot command:

- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open Chrome DevTools. You can use the browser’s developer-tools menu if you do not know the keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu and search for the screenshot command.
- Choose Capture full size screenshot.
- Wait for Chrome to produce the image, then use the resulting file from the browser’s download location.
This workflow depends on developer tools, so it may be less convenient than a browser’s dedicated screenshot button. Command names and menu placement can change between Chrome releases. If the exact label is not present, search the Command Menu for “screenshot” and select the full-size option if your version offers it.
Save a full webpage as an image in Safari on Mac
On macOS Safari, the full-page screenshot workflow uses the Develop menu and Web Inspector. If Develop is not visible, enable the Develop menu in Safari’s settings, then:
- Open the webpage and open Web Inspector.
- Select the page document in the inspector.
- Use the inspector’s screenshot capture command for a full-page image.
- Save the resulting image where you can find it.
The exact screenshot command label can vary by Safari release. If it is not obvious in the inspector, search its menus or command options for a screenshot action. This workflow is specific to Safari on macOS; the cited instructions do not establish a universal equivalent for every mobile Safari version.
Capture only the visible page or a section
If the whole page is unnecessary, use a visible-area or selection workflow rather than making a tall image and cropping it later. In Firefox, choose Save visible for the viewport. In Edge, use the selected-area capture. These approaches make it easier to exclude unrelated page content and reduce the amount of image you need to manage.

For other browsers, the availability of a built-in selection tool depends on the browser and version. Chrome’s full-size DevTools command is specifically a full-page workflow; do not assume that it provides the same area-selection controls as Edge or Firefox.
Prepare long or interactive pages before capturing
A screenshot records what the browser has rendered at capture time. It does not automatically reproduce every state a visitor might encounter. Before taking a long screenshot, scroll through the page and check the sections that matter.
- Lazy-loaded content: Images or sections may not appear until they approach the viewport. Scroll through the page first, then return to the capture workflow if needed.
- Changing content: A page can update while a long screenshot is being rendered or stitched. If the result has missing or inconsistent sections, wait for the page to settle and capture again.
- Login and permission gates: Content behind a login, permission prompt, or other interaction will not appear unless it is accessible and rendered in the page before capture.
- Hover and click states: A menu that appears only on hover or after a click may be absent unless you trigger it before capturing. If the browser capture workflow cannot preserve that state, a screenshot of the visible area while the state is open may be more suitable.
- Page movement: If an element shifts while the page is loading, the resulting image may not reflect the layout you expected. Allow the page to finish rendering before capturing.
When to use a screenshot API instead

Troubleshooting screenshot problems
The image contains only the visible screen
You likely chose a visible-area capture instead of a full-page option. In Edge, choose Capture full page; in Firefox, choose Save full page; in Chrome, use Capture full size screenshot. If your browser does not offer a full-page workflow, use a browser version or method that does.
Part of the page is blank or missing
Scroll through the page to trigger lazy-loaded sections, wait for content to finish loading, and try again. Confirm that the missing content is not behind a login, permission prompt, hover state, or click action. A screenshot cannot capture content that has not been rendered or exposed in the state being captured.
The page looks different from what you saw while scrolling
Dynamic pages can change during a long capture. Wait for the page to settle, avoid interacting with it while the capture is in progress, and retry. If the content continues to update, capture the relevant visible sections separately when a single full-page image is not essential.
The screenshot option or menu label is missing
Use the browser’s current menu or command search rather than assuming a shortcut or label is universal. Edge notes that its capture feature may vary by device, market, and browser version. Chrome and Safari developer-tool labels can also change with browser releases.

The result is copied but you cannot find an image file
Some workflows offer both copy and download actions. Choose the download or save action if you need a file. Firefox Developer Tools save screenshots to Downloads by default, and its documented --file option can force file output.
Mobile browser screenshots
Some mobile operating systems offer a “Full Page” screenshot option in supported apps, but the available steps depend on the device, operating system, and browser. A universal current workflow is not established here for Apple or Google devices. Check your device-specific instructions before relying on a mobile full-page capture; when you only need what is currently visible, use the device’s ordinary screenshot function.
