Yes, but only in specific circumstances. Someone can see your phone screen during a screen-sharing or remote-support session that you start or accept. On supported iPhones, an accepted request can also let another participant control parts of the device during a call. A malicious app, spyware, developer pairing, or a second device recording the display are separate risks. A warm phone, battery drain, or an occasional glitch is not proof that somebody is remotely taking screenshots.
What “screenshot remotely” can mean
The phrase covers several different situations. They do not all produce a screenshot file saved on your phone.
Live screen sharing
In FaceTime, a support app, or an online meeting, another participant may view what you share. The documented feature is live viewing; it does not mean every service automatically saves screenshots. A participant can still record what appears on their own device.
Remote control
Some supported Apple sessions allow the other person to tap, swipe, type, open or close apps, change certain settings, delete items, or send messages after you approve control. You can continue using the phone locally and stop control. Viewing and control are different permissions.

Developer or device pairing
Apple’s Device Hub can let a paired computer remotely view or control a device screen or install software using Xcode or Apple Configurator. This is different from an ordinary phone call and leaves a recent-session record you can review.
Spyware or a compromised app
An app with powerful privileges may read screen content or interact with other apps. Google says Android accessibility access can do both. Remote-access software can also be abused, although the available guidance does not establish how often consumer phones are secretly captured.
Someone recording the display
A person on a call or meeting can use their own camera or capture software. CISA warns that attendees may record shared content on their own devices, so a share session cannot guarantee that visible information will not be copied.
Can someone control an iPhone through a call?
Apple documents a Phone-call remote-control feature that requires an explicit approval. The recipient must tap Allow; the participants must be in each other’s contacts, both need iOS 26 or later, and Apple currently lists the feature as unavailable in the European Union. Ending the call ends sharing and control. Availability can change with software updates, so check Apple’s current instructions before relying on these conditions.
During FaceTime, Apple documents visible indicators for screen sharing and remote control. A request you did not expect should be declined. Declining control may leave screen sharing active, so stop sharing separately if you also want the viewer disconnected.

How to check an iPhone or iPad
Stop an active FaceTime session
- Look for the Screen Sharing control or the “Viewing My Screen” indicator during the call.
- If “Remote Control Active” appears, open the call controls and stop remote control.
- Stop screen sharing as well, or end the call to terminate the session.
Do not approve a control request merely because the caller claims to be technical support. Contact a company through its official website instead of using a number supplied by an unsolicited caller.
Review Device Hub access
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check > Manage Sharing & Access.
- Proceed to the Developer Mode section and review recent sessions for paired devices.
- Unpair anything you do not recognize.
- Disable Developer Mode if you do not need it.
Apple may change menu labels or paths in later releases. Device Hub review is useful for paired-device access; it is not a universal detector for every form of spyware.
Review app access carefully
Check which apps can access sensitive data and remove apps you do not recognize. Apple’s general privacy documentation describes system controls for app access. Its screen-recording permission example is a macOS control, not an iPhone list proving that iOS exposes an equivalent switch.
How to check an Android phone
Investigate accessibility and restricted settings
Open Settings and search for Accessibility, then review installed or enabled services. Also inspect special or restricted app access. Menu names differ by Android version and manufacturer, so use the Settings search box if necessary.
Google explains that accessibility access can let an app read screen content and interact with apps on your behalf. Do not grant that access to an app you do not trust, especially if an unsolicited caller or message told you to enable it. Warning signs include an unexpected contact, an app insisting on a device setting, or a permission that does not make sense for the app’s stated job.

Run Play Protect and update
- Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, choose Play Protect, and run a scan.
- Install Android and security updates offered in Settings.
- Remove apps identified as harmful and restart the phone.
Google’s malware guidance supports these checks, but a clean scan does not prove that no one previously viewed or recorded your screen.
Consider Advanced Protection
On supported devices, Android Advanced Protection adds layered defenses such as Play Protect, restrictions on unknown-source installations, and limits on accessibility services to verified tools. It is optional defense in depth, not a required remedy for every suspicion.

Battery drain, heat, slow performance, crashes, or unexplained data use have many ordinary causes: a failing battery, a background sync, poor reception, an update, or a demanding app. The cited platform guidance does not identify those symptoms as proof of remote screenshots. Treat them as reasons to inspect the device, not as confirmation of surveillance.
If you suspect spyware, abuse, or a targeted attack
Safety comes first. If a partner, family member, employer, or other person may retaliate, do not confront them or abruptly change settings from the possibly monitored phone. Use a trusted device to contact a qualified local digital-safety organization, the relevant platform support channel, or emergency services where appropriate.
- Do not install a random “spyware detector” or remote-support app recommended by an unsolicited caller.
- Write down unfamiliar apps, sessions, alerts, and dates before deleting anything if evidence may matter.
- Change important passwords from a trusted device and enable multifactor authentication where safe.
- Ask a qualified professional before factory-resetting a phone in a high-risk abuse or forensic situation.
Google’s guidance specifically cautions against granting sensitive settings to untrusted apps. The official sources here do not provide a complete victim-safety or forensic-response protocol, so high-risk cases deserve specialist help.

Practical privacy habits for calls and sharing
- Share only the window or app needed, not your entire screen, when the service allows that choice.
- Close password managers, banking apps, private messages, and notification previews before sharing.
- Verify participants and end the session when the task is complete.
- Assume anything visible can be photographed or recorded by another participant.
- Keep the operating system and apps current, and install software only from sources you trust.

“I declined control, but they can still see my screen. Why?”
On FaceTime, Apple says declining remote control does not necessarily stop screen sharing. Use the separate stop-sharing control or end the call.
“I cannot find Accessibility settings on Android.”
Use the Settings search field for “Accessibility,” “special app access,” or “restricted settings.” Manufacturers rename and reorganize these menus.
“Play Protect found nothing. Am I definitely safe?”

“Can a privacy screen protector stop remote screenshots?”
