For a personal LinkedIn profile cover, use a 1584 × 396 pixel canvas. Export it as JPG or PNG and keep the file under 8 MB. That specification applies only to the personal cover area. Company Page covers, Page link previews and paid ads use different dimensions, so choose the LinkedIn placement before you design.
LinkedIn graphic sizes at a glance
“LinkedIn image size” is not one universal setting. The correct canvas depends on where LinkedIn will display the graphic.
| Placement | Recommended dimensions | Aspect ratio | File and display limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal profile cover | 1584 × 396 px | 4:1 | JPG or PNG; under 8 MB. Visible area can change with browser-window size and screen resolution. |
| Company Page cover | 4200 × 700 px (English LinkedIn Help table) | 6:1 | PNG or JPEG; maximum 3 MB. Cropping can vary, especially near the lower-right corner. |
| Page URL-post custom image | 1200 × 627 px | 1.91:1 | Images wider than 200 px receive the larger preview treatment; narrower files appear as a left-side thumbnail. |
| Paid single-image ad, landscape | 1200 × 628 px | 1.91:1 | Allowed range: 640 × 360 to 7680 × 4320 px. |
| Paid single-image ad, square | 1200 × 1200 px | 1:1 | Allowed range: 360 × 360 to 4320 × 4320 px. |
| Paid single-image ad, vertical | 720 × 900 px | 4:5 | Allowed range: 360 × 640 to 2430 × 4320 px; this format serves only on mobile. |
The ad dimensions are advertising specifications. They are not a universal rule for every organic image-only post from a personal profile. LinkedIn’s official guidance reviewed here does not establish one standard pixel size for all such posts.
Personal profile cover: 1584 × 396 pixels
Use 1584 × 396 px when you are designing the banner behind your personal profile photo and headline. The unusually wide, shallow ratio means a design made for a feed post will usually crop badly when reused here.

Place your name, role, logo and other essential information away from every edge. Your cover can occupy a different visible area on a narrow browser window, a large monitor or a phone. Leave additional clearance on the left where the profile photo and related controls may overlap, and avoid putting critical details in the lower-right area.
File requirements
- Use JPG or PNG.
- Keep the file below 8 MB.
- Check the uploaded result on desktop and mobile; the platform’s crop is not identical at every screen size.
Company Page cover: 4200 × 700 pixels
For a LinkedIn Company Page, the English LinkedIn Help specification lists 4200 × 700 px. This is a separate asset from a personal profile cover and has a much wider 6:1 ratio.
LinkedIn’s Page guidance allows PNG or JPEG files up to 3 MB. Keep text and logos well inside the edges, with particular caution in the lower-right corner where screen-dependent cropping can hide information.
A localized LinkedIn result has displayed a different Page-cover number (1512 × 256). Because those values conflict, use the English Help table as the working specification and verify the live uploader if the exact Page-cover canvas is critical to a launch. Do not average the two figures or treat them as interchangeable.
Page link-preview images: 1200 × 627 pixels
When a LinkedIn Page shares a URL with a custom image, LinkedIn recommends a 1.91:1 ratio at 1200 × 627 px. The image must be more than 200 px wide to receive the larger image presentation; a narrower file is rendered as a small thumbnail on the left.
On mobile, other ratios may be shown in full with subtle white padding. Design the main subject so it still reads when the image is displayed with that padding, and do not assume the desktop crop is the only presentation.
Do not confuse 1200 × 627 with 1200 × 628
The one-pixel difference is intentional: 1200 × 627 is the Page URL-preview recommendation, while 1200 × 628 is the recommended landscape format for a paid single-image ad. Both are approximately 1.91:1, but they come from different LinkedIn specifications.
Paid single-image ad sizes
Campaign Manager supports three recommended single-image ad layouts. Select the one that matches the placement and audience rather than stretching one master graphic into every shape.

Design at 1200 × 628 px. LinkedIn lists an allowed range from 640 × 360 to 7680 × 4320 px.
Square
Design at 1200 × 1200 px. The allowed range is 360 × 360 to 4320 × 4320 px. Square artwork is often easier to reuse across mobile placements, but it is still an ad specification, not an organic-post rule.
Vertical
Design at 720 × 900 px (4:5). LinkedIn lists a range from 360 × 640 to 2430 × 4320 px and says this vertical paid format serves only on mobile.

Ad file limits
Paid single-image ads accept JPG, PNG or GIF files up to 5 MB. Animated GIFs are limited to 250 frames. Keep animation and text legible at the smallest mobile rendering you expect.
How to prepare a graphic that survives LinkedIn cropping
- Choose the destination first. Create separate documents for a profile cover, Page cover, link preview and each ad orientation. Do not resize one file blindly.
- Set the exact pixel canvas. Enter the dimensions in pixels, not inches. A 1584 × 396 cover and a 1200 × 1200 square ad require completely different composition.
- Build an edge-safe layout. Keep headlines, faces, logos and calls to action inside an inner margin. Avoid placing meaning in corners or along the bottom edge of covers.
- Check text at mobile width. Zoom out until the graphic is approximately the size of a phone preview. If the message becomes unreadable, simplify it rather than relying on a larger export.
- Export to the placement’s limit. Use JPG when photographic compression is acceptable; use PNG for sharp interface-style graphics or transparency where supported. Confirm the resulting file size before uploading.
- Preview both device classes. Review the uploaded cover or preview on a desktop browser and a phone. LinkedIn states that profile-cover appearance varies with browser-window size and screen resolution, and Page covers can crop differently by screen.
LinkedIn identifies Canva and Adobe Express as integrations for creating and exporting ad images into Campaign Manager. Those integrations are relevant to paid campaigns; they do not change the pixel requirements for your chosen placement.
Common sizing problems and fixes
“My profile banner looks zoomed in”
Usually the source ratio is wrong. Recreate the file at 1584 × 396 px instead of uploading a square or standard social-post image. Keep important elements farther from the edges and check the result at more than one window width.
“The Company Page cover hides my logo”
Page covers can crop according to screen size. Move the logo inward, especially if it is near the lower-right corner, and re-export within the 3 MB PNG/JPEG limit.
“My URL image appears only as a thumbnail”
Check the file width. LinkedIn’s larger Page URL-preview treatment requires an image wider than 200 px; use the recommended 1200 × 627 px canvas for predictable results.
Rank #4
“The ad manager rejects my image”
Verify that you selected the correct orientation, that the dimensions fall inside LinkedIn’s stated range, and that the file is JPG, PNG or GIF under 5 MB. For an animated GIF, count frames and keep the total at 250 or fewer.
“I used 1200 × 628 for an organic post”
That is the recommended landscape paid-ad size. It may display acceptably in some organic contexts, but LinkedIn’s reviewed guidance does not establish it as the universal size for personal image-only posts. Treat organic rendering as dependent on the post and device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1584 × 396 the size for every LinkedIn image?
No. It is the recommended personal profile cover size. Company covers, Page URL previews and paid ads each use separate specifications.
Should I design one image for desktop and mobile?
Create the correct placement canvas, then keep essential content inside a generous safe area and preview the upload on both device types.

The Bottom Line
Start with 1584 × 396 px for a personal profile cover, 4200 × 700 px for the English Company Page-cover specification, and 1200 × 627 px for a Page URL preview. Use the separate 1200 × 628, 1200 × 1200 and 720 × 900 recommendations only for their corresponding paid-ad formats, and keep critical design elements away from edges.
