Use 1080 × 1080 pixels (1:1) for a regular organic LinkedIn photo post in 2026. LinkedIn recommends a 1080-pixel width and accepts photo aspect ratios from 3:1 through 4:5, so a square canvas fits. For a single-image LinkedIn ad, use 1200 × 1200 pixels; that is LinkedIn’s explicit square-ad recommendation.

Those are different surfaces. A company Page logo and a link-preview image use different dimensions again, and uploading the wrong asset can lead to cropping, padding or a soft-looking image.

Quick size guide

LinkedIn surface Recommended or practical size Aspect ratio Published limits or notes
Organic photo post 1080 × 1080 px practical square canvas 1:1; LinkedIn accepts 3:1 to 4:5 At least 552 × 276 px; 1080 px width recommended
Single-image ad 1200 × 1200 px 1:1 360 × 360 px minimum; 4320 × 4320 px maximum
LinkedIn Page logo 400 × 400 px 1:1 268 × 268 px minimum
Page URL/link preview 1200 × 627 px 1.91:1 Wide image, not a square asset

LinkedIn’s organic-photo guidance does not prescribe one exact square file. The 1080 × 1080 recommendation is a practical production choice that stays within the stated organic ratio range. The 1200 × 1200 figure, in contrast, is LinkedIn’s stated square specification for a single-image ad.

What size should a square LinkedIn post be?

Organic personal or Page photo posts

Create the final image at 1080 × 1080 px. It gives you a 1:1 square composition while meeting LinkedIn’s recommended 1080-pixel width. The organic photo rule allows ratios from 3:1 (very wide) to 4:5 (portrait), so 1:1 is accepted.

Keep important text, faces and logos away from the outermost edge. LinkedIn can display posts in different feed contexts and on different screen widths; a modest internal margin protects details from appearing cramped even when the image itself is not cropped.

Minimum dimensions are not the target

The stated organic minimum is 552 × 276 px. That minimum describes eligibility, not the best working canvas for a new design. Starting at 1080 × 1080 gives more room for readable type and avoids enlarging a small source later.

What dimensions should a LinkedIn single-image ad use?

Recommended square ad canvas

Use 1200 × 1200 px at a 1:1 ratio for a single-image ad. LinkedIn lists 360 × 360 px as the minimum and 4320 × 4320 px as the maximum for square ads.

Do not assume that an ad asset will look identical everywhere it is encountered. LinkedIn warns that square and vertical ad images may be cropped when the ad is shared organically. Design the central message so it remains understandable if the outer margin disappears.

Choosing between 1080 and 1200 square

  • Organic post: 1080 × 1080 is the practical choice.
  • Single-image ad: 1200 × 1200 follows the explicit ad recommendation.
  • One master file: If you need both placements, keep an editable square master and export separate 1080-pixel and 1200-pixel versions after checking type size and edge spacing.

LinkedIn Page logo and link-preview sizes

Company or Showcase Page logo

A Page logo is a separate asset from a feed post. LinkedIn recommends 400 × 400 px and lists 268 × 268 px as the minimum. Place the mark on a square canvas and check it at small display sizes; fine lettering that works in a 1080-pixel post can become illegible in a profile logo.

URL or link preview

A Page link preview uses a wide 1200 × 627 px image at a 1.91:1 ratio. Do not upload your 1080 × 1080 post artwork expecting LinkedIn to preserve the composition. Prepare a separate wide version with a shorter headline and a layout that tolerates horizontal cropping.

File format, compression and export settings

Use PNG or JPEG

LinkedIn’s Page image guidance accepts PNG and JPEG. It recommends a high-resolution JPEG rather than PNG when the goal is the best image resolution. JPEG is usually efficient for photographic or gradient-heavy artwork; PNG can be useful for graphics requiring crisp, lossless edges or transparency, subject to the upload limit.

Keep Page uploads under 3 MB

The cited Page guidance sets a 3 MB maximum file size. Export, inspect the resulting file size, and compress again if necessary. LinkedIn names Trimage and ImageOptim as examples when an image looks blurry or pixelated; use an image compression tool that preserves the dimensions while reducing unnecessary metadata and encoding overhead.

Export checklist

  • Set the pixel dimensions before designing: 1080 × 1080 for an organic square, 1200 × 1200 for a square ad, 400 × 400 for a Page logo, or 1200 × 627 for a link preview.
  • Export as PNG or JPEG.
  • Inspect small text at 100% zoom and on a phone-sized preview.
  • Check the file size, especially for a Page upload with the 3 MB limit.
  • Keep an editable source so you can create a different ratio without stretching the original.

Why a LinkedIn image looks blurry or pixelated

The source is too small

An image that only meets the 552 × 276 organic minimum may contain too few pixels for detailed typography or a full-bleed photograph. Re-export from a larger source at the appropriate target dimensions rather than enlarging a compressed thumbnail.

Repeated re-saving damaged the file

Opening and repeatedly saving a JPEG can introduce additional compression artifacts. Return to the original design or photograph, resize once, and export a final JPEG at a high-quality setting. For flat graphics, compare a PNG export if the file remains below the applicable limit.

The wrong ratio was uploaded

Stretching a wide link-preview image into a square, or placing a square post into a wide template, reduces clarity and distorts type. Build a dedicated version for each surface.

LinkedIn’s display is not the original file

Feed previews can be scaled by the interface and by the viewer’s device. Judge the uploaded source at its native dimensions first. If the native file is sharp but the feed preview is soft, verify that the export was not accidentally downsampled and that the file meets the recommended dimensions.

How to design a readable 1080 × 1080 LinkedIn post

  1. Start with a square document. Set width and height to 1080 pixels.
  2. Reserve an internal safety margin. Keep logos, faces and essential words away from the boundary.
  3. Use a short message. A square feed image is not a substitute for a full article; make the main point readable without zooming.
  4. Check contrast. Text over photographs needs a solid or translucent backing when the background changes in brightness.
  5. Preview at small size. If the headline cannot be read in a phone-sized preview, simplify it rather than shrinking the entire design.
  6. Export once from the source. Confirm dimensions, format and file size before uploading.

Uploading and replacing a post image

Choose the final dimensions before publishing. LinkedIn’s organic-post help says uploaded photos cannot be resized after posting. If the wrong ratio, typo or low-resolution file is published, prepare a corrected file and follow LinkedIn’s current post-editing or replacement workflow; do not rely on an in-app resize control that is not available for the uploaded photo.

Or skip the browser setup

If you are generating reference images of a LinkedIn page, campaign landing page or other URL, ScreenshotNeo returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF from one request. It accepts the page’s cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all options. A basic call is:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

The same request in Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

And in Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo also supports full-page and selector captures, device presets, custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, request blocking, cookies, headers, user agents, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks and bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call. Every feature is on every plan: 1,000 shots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Practical decision checklist

  • Publishing a normal photo post? Use 1080 × 1080 px.
  • Running a single-image ad? Use 1200 × 1200 px, staying between 360 and 4320 pixels per side.
  • Updating a Page logo? Use 400 × 400 px, not less than 268 × 268 px.
  • Sharing a URL? Use 1200 × 627 px at 1.91:1.
  • Uploading to a Page? Use PNG or JPEG and keep the file at or below 3 MB.
  • Need multiple placements? Maintain one editable source and export a checked file for each surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1080 × 1080 an official LinkedIn organic-post requirement?

No. LinkedIn specifies a 1080-pixel recommended width and allows 3:1 to 4:5 photo ratios. 1080 × 1080 is the practical square canvas within those rules.

Can I use 1200 × 1200 for an organic post?

A square image remains within the organic ratio range, but 1080 × 1080 is the practical production target. Keep the ad specification separate from the organic-post guidance.

Does LinkedIn resize a photo after I publish it?

LinkedIn’s organic-post help says uploaded photos cannot be resized after posting, so verify the final dimensions before publishing.

What format is best, PNG or JPEG?

Both are accepted in the cited Page guidance. LinkedIn recommends a high-resolution JPEG for best image resolution; PNG can suit graphics when its file remains within the applicable limit.
