Mozilla VPN is a paid, device-wide VPN for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. Mozilla says one subscription covers up to five devices and encrypts all internet traffic from those devices, rather than only traffic in a browser. It is a practical option if you want a Mozilla-branded VPN app, WireGuard and multi-hop routing, but it is not suitable for installing directly on a router, smart TV, game console or streaming dongle.

What does Mozilla VPN protect?

The standalone subscription runs as a VPN client on the device. Mozilla says it protects all internet traffic from that device, not just Firefox tabs. That includes traffic from other browsers and apps while the VPN connection is active.

The subscription supports up to five devices. The limit is attached to the subscription, not five simultaneous browser tabs or five websites.

Supported devices—and the important exclusions

Supported platforms

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS

Feature availability is not identical across these platforms. For example, Mozilla limits app exclusions to Windows, Android and Linux, while its Firefox extension page describes per-website VPN settings for Windows.

Devices that cannot run the app

Mozilla’s FAQ says the app cannot run directly on TVs, gaming consoles, streaming dongles or routers. That means it cannot provide automatic whole-home coverage from a router, nor can you install it natively on a television or console. If those are your primary VPN targets, this limitation is decisive; you would need a service and setup that explicitly supports those platforms.

Privacy, logging and the audit caveat

Mozilla states: “We never log, track or share your network data.” That is Mozilla’s policy statement, not proof that no data is ever collected under every operational circumstance.

TechRadar’s June 2025 review says Mozilla published a Cure53 audit of its apps from August 2021 and characterizes the findings as positive overall. The review also notes that the audit did not examine Mozilla’s servers. It is therefore not a recent, full server-side audit, and readers should not present it as one.

Using the service while traveling

Mozilla says an installed subscription generally continues working while you travel, with an exception for connections originating in China. That statement concerns an existing service; it does not guarantee that a traveler can purchase or activate the service from every location.

Mozilla VPN versus Firefox’s built-in VPN

These are different products with different scopes.

Mozilla VPN subscription Firefox’s built-in VPN
Protection scope All traffic from the device while connected Browser-level protection inside Firefox
Devices Up to five supported devices Firefox feature; not a device-wide client
Data model Mozilla describes the subscription as offering unlimited data Do not assume it has the subscription’s data allowance
Rollout evidence Standalone paid service Mozilla reported Android rollout beginning July 28, 2026

Choose the standalone subscription when apps outside Firefox, multiple operating systems or device-wide coverage matter. Choose the browser feature only when browser-level protection meets your needs; it does not replace a VPN client for games, mail apps or other device traffic.

Is Mozilla VPN worth it?

It fits readers who need

  • One paid VPN subscription for computers and mobile devices
  • Protection for non-browser apps as well as browsers
  • WireGuard, multi-hop or custom DNS on platforms that support them
  • A Mozilla-branded service with a clearly stated five-device limit

Look elsewhere if you need

  • Router installation or automatic coverage for an entire home network
  • A native app for a smart TV, game console or streaming dongle
  • A current independent server audit or a fresh performance benchmark as a buying requirement
  • Guaranteed availability in a country outside Mozilla’s current purchase list

Bottom line

Mozilla VPN is a credible, straightforward paid VPN for supported computers and phones: it covers device traffic, supports up to five devices and advertises WireGuard, multi-hop and more than 500 servers in 30+ countries. Its main practical weaknesses are the lack of router, TV and console apps, platform-dependent features, country restrictions and the absence of a recent independent server audit. Verify local pricing and eligibility before paying, and do not confuse it with Firefox’s browser-only VPN feature.
