On a computer, open the page, choose Chrome’s Print command, select Save as PDF, and click Save. On Android, open the three-dot menu, choose Share, then Print, select Save as PDF, and save the file where you want it. No physical printer is required.
Save a website as a PDF in desktop Chrome
Chrome creates the file through its print-preview pipeline. The labels are the same on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, although the keyboard shortcut differs by operating system.
- Open the page. Wait until the content you need is visible and the page has finished loading.
- Open print preview. Select Chrome’s three-dot menu, then Print. You can also use Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose the destination. In the print preview, open Destination and select Save as PDF. If Google Drive for desktop is installed, Google says a Google Drive destination can also appear in this selector.
- Review print settings. Check the page range, portrait or landscape orientation, paper size, margins, scale, headers and footers, and whether background graphics are enabled. The exact controls can vary with the page and your Chrome version.
- Save the file. Click Save, choose a filename and folder in the system save dialog, and confirm.
The filename and folder in the save dialog determine the final location. If you do not change Chrome’s default download location, Chrome uses that default folder for downloaded files.
If “Save as PDF” is not shown
Open the Destination selector and look for a local PDF destination. If Chrome’s compact preview does not expose it, reopen the operating system’s print dialog from the preview and select the PDF save option there. A physical printer is not needed.

Save a website as a PDF on Android
- Open the webpage in the Chrome app and let the content finish loading.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Share, then choose Print.
- In the printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Tap the save control, select a folder or storage provider in Android’s file picker, and confirm.
Android can offer local device storage and other providers installed on the phone. The location you select in the file picker is where the PDF is saved.
Find the PDF after saving
The save dialog is authoritative: check the folder and filename shown there first. If you accepted Chrome’s default location, check Chrome’s configured downloads folder. On Android, open the Files app (or your device’s file manager) and browse the location selected in the save picker. Searching the exact filename is often faster than browsing by date.
What a Chrome PDF preserves—and what it does not
A Chrome PDF is a print-rendered document snapshot, not a downloadable copy of the website’s HTML and scripts. It is suitable for reading, sharing and printing, but it should not be treated as an interactive archive.
- Links and text that Chrome’s print renderer can lay out may appear in the document, but live page behavior is not preserved as a working website.
- Content driven by scripts, login state, embedded media, ads, cookie dialogs or responsive breakpoints can render differently or be absent.
- Long pages can be incomplete when images or other sections load only after scrolling. A page’s print stylesheet can also intentionally hide navigation or other elements.
These limitations follow from Chrome’s print-preview generation flow; Google’s procedural help documents explain how to save the preview but do not promise a pixel-perfect or interactive copy.

Fix common Chrome PDF problems
The preview is missing content
- Wait for network activity and visible loading indicators to finish.
- Scroll through the page once so lazy-loaded sections and images have a chance to load, then reopen print preview.
- Use the site’s print view or reader view, when available, before printing. A simpler layout often produces a more complete document.
- Check the print preview’s page range and scale; an accidental range or extreme scale can make pages appear to be missing.
The PDF looks different from the browser tab
That is expected when the site supplies a print-specific stylesheet or relies on interactive scripts. Try the site’s print/reader view, enable background graphics if the design depends on them, and check orientation, paper size and margins. If the page requires an authenticated session, confirm that you are signed in before opening print preview.

You cannot find the saved file
Repeat the save operation and note the folder displayed by the save dialog. Then check Chrome’s default download location and the Android file-picker location you selected. A different browser profile or a cloud provider can place the file somewhere other than the folder you normally use.
You need a cloud copy
On desktop, Google says Google Drive can appear as a print-preview destination when Google Drive for desktop is installed. Otherwise, save locally first and upload the resulting PDF using your normal cloud-storage app.
The page keeps changing while you print
Pause auto-advancing media, dismiss overlays and wait for the page to settle before opening print preview. If a site never reaches a stable state, a browser-based PDF may not be a reliable record; an automated capture service can wait for a selector or network idle instead.

For an occasional page and a local file, Chrome is the shortest path. For recurring, multi-URL or programmatic captures, use an API with explicit waiting and output controls.

Is saving a PDF the same as downloading a webpage?
No. A PDF is a rendered document produced for reading, sharing or printing. Downloading the page source would produce HTML and related assets instead, with different privacy, rendering and offline-use implications.
Can I view a Chrome PDF without returning to the website?
Yes. Once saved, the PDF is a standalone file that you can open from local storage or the cloud location you chose. It will not, however, recreate the site’s live scripts or changing data.

An API is preferable when captures must be repeatable, scheduled, performed for many URLs, or controlled with selectors, waits, device settings and webhooks rather than adjusted by hand.
