In Safari, take a normal screenshot, open its thumbnail, select Full Page, then save the result as an image in Photos or a PDF in Files. The full-page control appears in the screenshot editor; the hardware shortcut alone captures only the visible screen.
Capture an entire webpage in Safari
- Open Safari and load the page. Wait for the text, images and sections you need to finish loading. If the page changes while it loads, the full-page preview can reflect those changes.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home button together.
- Open the screenshot editor. Tap the thumbnail that briefly appears in the lower-left corner. If it disappears, open Photos and edit the most recent screenshot; the Full Page tab is available from the screenshot editing view for supported captures.
- Select Full Page. At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. Safari extends the capture beyond the visible screen. Apple’s documented example is an entire webpage in Safari.
- Inspect the result. Drag the vertical preview to move through the page and check that the beginning, end and important images are present.
- Crop or annotate if needed. Use the crop handles to remove browser content or unrelated sections. Markup tools let you draw, add text, magnify an area or highlight a passage.
- Save or share. Choose the share control, then save the full-page capture as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. Pick Photos when you need a picture in your library; pick Files when you need a document that is easy to attach, archive or print.
Image or PDF: which output should you choose?

A very long page may be difficult to read as one tall image. A PDF is usually more practical for a policy, receipt, article or other document that you expect to revisit. An image is convenient when the recipient expects a picture or when you want to mark up a single continuous canvas.

Use Safari’s webpage-to-PDF Markup route
Safari also provides a separate way to turn a webpage into a PDF:
- Open the page and tap Safari’s Page Menu.
- Tap Share, then choose Markup. The exact Share control can vary with Safari’s tab layout, so use the label shown on your iPhone.
- Review or annotate the PDF in Markup.
- Finish and save or share the file.
This route is useful when your goal is specifically a document rather than a picture in Photos. It is separate from selecting Full Page in the screenshot editor.

What the Full Page option can and cannot do
It captures beyond the visible screen
The hardware shortcut creates the initial screenshot. The extended capture is produced only after you choose Full Page in the editor. You can scroll through the resulting preview before saving.
It is documented for Safari webpages
Apple’s support guidance uses an entire webpage in Safari as the example. Do not assume that every app, embedded browser or scrollable panel will offer the Full Page tab. If the tab is missing, the content may not be a supported Safari webpage capture.
Dynamic and protected content may differ
Content that appears only after interaction, requires a sign-in, changes while you scroll or is blocked from rendering may not appear exactly as expected. Let the page load first, keep the relevant tab open and inspect the preview before saving. For sensitive pages, remember that the resulting image or PDF contains everything captured, including information below the fold.

If the Full Page tab is missing
- Confirm the app: repeat the process in Safari with the webpage open, rather than in another browser or an app’s internal web view.
- Take a fresh screenshot: close the editor, wait for the page to finish loading and use the correct button combination for your iPhone.
- Check the capture type: some content is a scrollable panel inside a page, not the webpage itself. Apple’s documented workflow does not promise full-panel capture for every such element.
- Try the PDF route: Safari’s Page Menu, Share and Markup workflow can produce a webpage PDF when that is your actual requirement.
- Use an alternate screenshot trigger: Apple lists Siri, AssistiveTouch and Back Tap as other ways to take a screenshot. These change how the initial screenshot is triggered; you still need the screenshot editor to look for Full Page.

Face ID iPhones
Press and release the Side button and Volume Up together. Do not hold them, or you may open the power-off or emergency controls instead of taking a screenshot.
Home-button iPhones
Press and release the Side button and Home button together. The screenshot thumbnail should appear briefly after the capture.
Siri, AssistiveTouch and Back Tap
If physical buttons are difficult to press, use Siri, configure an AssistiveTouch screenshot action or assign Screenshot to Back Tap in iPhone settings. These are alternative ways to create the initial screenshot; the Full Page choice remains an editor step when supported.

Privacy, accuracy and file-management checks
- Review the complete length: drag through the preview, not just the first screen.
- Remove private data: crop or mark out account numbers, addresses, messages and other information before sharing.
- Choose a clear filename: when saving to Files, include the site and date so the PDF is searchable in your folders.
- Keep the source tab available: if you need to verify a quote or link later, save the original webpage separately; a screenshot is a fixed copy.
- Check storage: a full-page image can be much taller than a normal screenshot. If saving fails, free space and try again, or choose PDF when a document is more suitable.

A blank or incomplete result
Wait for a selector, a delay or network idle, and enable full-page capture so lazy-loaded images are requested. If a page depends on a click, use the click option before capture. Inspect X-Page-Verdict to distinguish a failed load from a clean result.

A protected page returns a bot check
Do not treat the response as a valid screenshot. Check the verdict and billing headers; bot checks and CAPTCHAs are not billed. Review the target’s access requirements and supply permitted headers, cookies or an Authorization value when appropriate.
The request times out
Use a client timeout long enough for the page and assets to load, such as the 90-second Python example. Reduce unnecessary resources with request or resource-type blocking, or wait on a specific selector instead of an unlimited network-idle condition.
A generated file is hard to use
Choose PDF options for documents, set a viewport or device preset for consistent layouts, and use resizing or retina scale to balance readability against file size. For a single component, capture it by CSS selector instead of the entire page.
