Short answer: GoFullPage cannot be labeled simply “safe” or “unsafe” from the available evidence. Its developer says screenshots remain in local browser storage and that it does not collect user data, while Google warns that permissions such as access to all websites can technically let an extension read, request, or modify page data. Those statements describe declared practices and browser capabilities, not an independent audit of every installed build. For ordinary full-page captures, the risk may be acceptable if you trust the developer; iframe capture and automatic downloading deserve closer review because they require broader or additional permissions.
What “safe” means in this case
There are three different questions hidden inside “Is GoFullPage safe?”
- What can the browser permit? Chrome permission warnings describe the maximum capability an extension may receive, not proof that it is abusing that capability.
- What does GoFullPage say it does? Its FAQ and Chrome Web Store disclosure describe local screenshot storage and no collection or use of user data.
- What has been independently verified? The available material does not include a code review, penetration test, or measured network-traffic test of a specific GoFullPage version.
A sensible decision therefore depends on the pages you capture, the feature you need, and whether you are comfortable relying on the developer’s disclosures without an independent audit.
What GoFullPage says about your screenshots
Local browser storage, according to the FAQ
GoFullPage’s FAQ says captures are stored with the browser’s HTML5 filesystem and IndexedDB. It describes that storage as sandboxed, accessible to the extension, and located on your computer rather than on the developer’s servers. If accurate for the version you installed, that means a normal capture is not intentionally uploaded as part of the basic save workflow.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible Model(s): Magicmoon brand filter only for 24 inch -diagonally measured - widescreen monitor - aspect ratio 16:9 - filter size: width: 20 15/16", Height: 11 13/16" (531mm x 298mm)
- Superior Privacy: The computer privacy filter makes the screen appear dark when looking at it from an angle (the angle is about 30 to 60 degree), but bright when looking directly at it. To change the privacy level - simply adjust your monitor’s brightness accordingly
- Eye and Screen Protection: Privacy Filter does not only protect your private life but also protects your eyes by blocking 30% of blue light , blocking the harmful blue light between 380 to 495 nm, it filters out the blue light and relieves eye strain
- Perfect For Open Workspaces: Great for maintaining screen privacy in open work spaces
- Includes Two Options: Option 1 uses clear adhesive strips that securely attach to any computer screen. Option 2 (for computer screens with a raised bezel only) uses slide mount tabs that easily stick to the display frame, allowing you to slide the privacy screen filter on and off as needed
That is an attributable statement, not a network-verification result. The sources reviewed do not show an independent audit or traffic capture proving that every build behaves identically. Treat the claim as an important privacy disclosure, not as a guarantee that no data could ever leave the device.
Store disclosure
The Chrome Web Store listing observed on September 29, 2026 displays the developer’s declaration that GoFullPage does not collect or use user data. The disclosure also says data is not sold to third parties and is not used or transferred for unrelated purposes or creditworthiness or lending. Store disclosure fields can change, so check the live listing before installing or approving an update.
Why Chrome asks for broad permissions
Basic use versus optional access
GoFullPage’s FAQ says installation and basic use require no special permissions. It identifies two optional permissions that may be requested when needed:
| Permission or capability | Developer’s stated reason | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Downloads | Download controls and automatic downloads | The extension can use Chrome’s download mechanism when you save a capture. |
| Iframe or frame access | Scrolling and capturing content inside inner iframes or framesets | Pages embedding separate documents may require additional access that an ordinary page does not. |
The FAQ says you can revoke permissions in the extension’s options and grant them again when a feature needs them. Revoking an optional permission is a reasonable way to keep the extension’s access narrower when you are not capturing iframe content or using automatic downloads.

Why iframe capture can mention tabs, webNavigation and <all_urls>
In a September 2, 2025 explainer, the developer says iframe capture needs access to tabs, webNavigation and <all_urls>. The explanation is that a full-page capture scrolls the page and dynamically changes CSS, including content inside embedded frames. The same explainer says the extension runs on the current tab after you activate it, rather than continuously operating on every page in the background.
Chrome’s own permission guidance explains that website access can allow an extension to read, request, or modify data from pages you visit, including sensitive pages. That is why the wording sounds serious even when the intended action is a screenshot. The warning describes potential capability; it is not a finding that GoFullPage is misusing the permission.
What happens if you deny access
The developer says that, if access is denied, the extension will not run on that page but should continue to work on pages without iframes. This gives you a practical least-privilege choice: decline the broader permission unless the page you need to capture genuinely contains iframe or frameset content.
How to interpret Chrome’s warning
Google’s Chrome Web Store Help puts the warning in context: “The warning doesn’t mean the app or extension is dangerous, just that it can be.” The wording is deliberately capability-based. Access to all websites could expose sensitive material such as private dashboards, webmail, medical portals, customer records or internal tools if an extension were compromised or misused. It does not establish that GoFullPage is reading those pages.

Before accepting a prompt, match the permission to the task:
- For a normal page with no embedded frame, try the basic capture first and avoid optional access you do not need.
- For an iframe-heavy page, decide whether capturing the embedded content is worth granting the broader access described above.
- For automatic downloads, grant Downloads only if you want that convenience; otherwise save manually and keep the permission revoked.
- Do not capture secrets unnecessarily. A screenshot can expose account numbers, API keys displayed in a console, personal messages and customer information even when the extension itself behaves as described.
What the available evidence cannot prove
A careful safety assessment has limits:
- There is no independent source in the reviewed material that audits the extension’s source code.
- There is no measured network trace for a particular installed build demonstrating that screenshots never leave the device.
- There is no penetration test or vulnerability assessment covering all versions.
- A privacy disclosure is a statement of intended practice, not technical proof that an implementation can never be compromised.
Accordingly, do not interpret the local-storage statement as proof that every version is incapable of uploading data, or as evidence that the extension has no security vulnerabilities. Keep Chrome and the extension updated, and use a separate browser profile for sensitive work if your organization’s policy requires stronger isolation.
The August 2026 Chrome Web Store interruption
GoFullPage said it was removed from the Chrome Web Store on August 11, 2026 because of a copyright-related issue and that it believed the removal was in error. Its notice states: “This was not a security issue with GoFullPage.” That is the developer’s characterization of the event, not an independent conclusion from Google or a security investigator.
The store result observed on September 29, 2026 listed version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026, along with the no-collection/use disclosure. Availability, version numbers and disclosure text are changeable marketplace fields; verify them at the moment you install.

A practical decision framework
GoFullPage is a reasonable fit when
- You need a convenient full-page image or PDF from a browser tab.
- The page does not contain highly confidential information, or your organization has approved the extension.
- You are comfortable with the developer’s local-storage and no-data-collection disclosures.
- You can grant optional permissions only for the capture that requires them and revoke them afterward.
Choose a stricter approach when
- You routinely capture regulated, confidential or customer-owned data.
- Your security team requires independently audited software or verified network behavior.
- You cannot accept a permission that potentially covers all websites.
- You need repeatable, server-side captures without installing a browser extension.
For sensitive work, ask your administrator whether browser extensions are allowed, review the exact permission dialog shown by your Chrome channel, and test the workflow with non-sensitive content before using production data.
Safer operating practices if you install it
- Install from the official Chrome Web Store listing. Check the publisher name, current version and data-disclosure section immediately before installation.
- Start with the narrowest workflow. Capture a page that does not use iframes and see whether basic operation meets your needs without optional permissions.
- Read each prompt instead of approving automatically. Note whether Chrome is requesting Downloads, iframe-related access or broader website access.
- Use a dedicated browser profile for sensitive projects. Keep work accounts and personal browsing separate from an extension used for screenshots.
- Remove secrets before capturing. Blur or hide tokens, personal data and internal URLs in the page itself when possible.
- Revoke optional permissions when finished. GoFullPage says permissions can be removed in its options and requested again later.
- Delete saved captures you no longer need. Local browser storage is still data on a computer that may be backed up, synchronized or accessible to other users of that profile.
- Recheck after updates. Permission requests and disclosure text can change between versions.
Troubleshooting permission and privacy concerns
Chrome says the extension can read and change data on all websites
This is a capability warning associated with broad website access. If you do not need iframe capture, cancel the prompt and try a page without embedded frames. If you do need it, grant access only after confirming the page is appropriate and revoke it afterward.
The capture omits content inside an iframe
The developer identifies iframe or frameset scrolling as the reason optional access may be required. Without that permission, the extension may capture the outer page but not the embedded document. Decide whether the missing content is necessary; do not grant broader access merely to obtain a cosmetic portion of a screenshot.
Automatic download does not work
GoFullPage’s FAQ associates the Downloads permission with download controls and automatic downloading. Check whether Chrome denied or you revoked that permission, then either restore it for the current task or use a manual save workflow.

You are worried a screenshot was uploaded
The developer says screenshots are held in local HTML5 filesystem and IndexedDB storage rather than on servers. The reviewed material does not independently verify that claim for your installed build. If your policy requires proof, have your security team inspect the extension and monitor its network behavior, or use a capture service whose server-side processing is explicitly acceptable to your organization.
The extension disappeared from the store or the listing changed
Store availability and metadata can change. The August 2026 interruption was described by GoFullPage as copyright-related, not a security issue. Recheck the current listing and publisher information instead of relying on an old installation page or cached result.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need predictable screenshots without granting a browser extension access to your browsing profile, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF output. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and each response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server works with Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients through take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf.
One GET request is enough:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the full option set, including iframe-friendly waiting controls, custom headers and cookies, CSS or JavaScript, device and viewport settings, element capture, PDF layout, blocking rules, caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs and bulk capture.
Equivalent Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Equivalent Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots, and every feature is available on every plan. Sign up for the free ScreenshotNeo plan if that workflow fits your privacy and automation requirements.
Bottom line
GoFullPage’s declared practices are privacy-friendly on paper: the developer says captures stay in local browser storage and the store listing says it does not collect or use user data. Chrome’s broad permission warning remains relevant because iframe capture can require access capable of reading, requesting or modifying data on websites. The most accurate conclusion is conditional: use the least access necessary, avoid sensitive captures unless your policy permits the extension, and remember that these disclosures have not been independently audited for every build.
