Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot (formerly Web capture) to capture a full webpage or a selected area, save the result as an image, and then verify or export it as JPEG. Microsoft documents image saving but does not guarantee that every Edge version saves in JPG/JPEG format, so an explicit JPEG export may be required.
What Edge can do—and what “convert to JPG” really means
Edge’s Screenshot tool captures rendered webpage content rather than the browser window alone. Capture full page can include content below the visible viewport; Capture area lets you draw a rectangle around a specific part of the page. After reviewing the result, you can save the capture as an image.
Microsoft’s current documentation describes saving an image, not a guaranteed JPEG encoder or a format picker. The saved file may therefore be PNG, JPEG, WebP, or another image type depending on your Edge build and device. Check the file extension and, when JPEG is mandatory, open the image in an editor and use Export or Save as with JPEG/JPG selected. Do not rely on merely renaming .png to .jpg; that changes the name, not the underlying encoding.
Feature names and availability can vary by browser version, device type, and market. If you do not see Screenshot, update Edge and try the menu route rather than assuming the shortcut is unavailable.

Save an entire Edge webpage as an image
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to appear. If the page loads images or sections only after scrolling, allow those sections to finish loading before capturing.
- Open Screenshot. Select the three-dot Settings and more menu, then choose Screenshot. In some Edge releases the command is still labeled Web capture. Where supported, press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page mode. Select Capture full page. Edge will build a capture that extends beyond the currently visible screen.
- Review the result. Check the top, bottom, and any important interactive or lazy-loaded sections. A page can look complete in the viewport while still having unloaded images farther down.
- Save the image. Use the save control in the capture preview and choose a folder. Record the file extension shown by the save dialog.
- Confirm JPEG when required. Inspect the saved file’s type in File Explorer or your image editor. If it is not JPEG/JPG, open it in an editor, choose Export or Save as, select JPEG, set the desired quality, and save a new copy.
Why a full-page capture may differ from the live page
- Lazy-loaded images may appear only after the page has been scrolled or otherwise triggered.
- Animations, rotating banners, live feeds, and personalized content can change while Edge assembles the image.
- Fixed headers or sticky menus may be repeated or positioned differently in a stitched capture.
- Very long pages can produce a large image that is difficult to open or share; a selected-area capture may be more practical.
Capture only part of a page
For a hero section, chart, paragraph, or form, open Screenshot/Web capture and choose Capture area. Drag around the region, adjust the selection if needed, review it, and save. This mode is useful when you want a compact JPG for a document or message and do not need the page below the viewport.
Because the selection is based on the rendered screen, first set Edge’s zoom and window size to the framing you want. Browser zoom changes the number of CSS pixels represented in the output; it does not convert the file to JPEG. If exact dimensions matter, note the resulting pixel size in your image editor after saving.
Convert the saved capture to a real JPG
- Open the saved image in an editor that supports JPEG export.
- Choose File, then Export or Save as.
- Select JPEG or JPG as the format. Keep the original capture as a separate master if you may need lossless editing later.
- Choose a quality level appropriate to the use: higher quality preserves text and diagrams but creates a larger file; lower quality reduces size and can introduce halos around sharp text.
- Save, then reopen the exported file or inspect its properties to verify that the type is JPEG rather than only having a .jpg suffix.
JPEG uses lossy compression. Screenshots containing small type, line art, or UI controls can show visible artifacts at aggressive compression settings. If a recipient accepts PNG, PNG often keeps interface text crisper; use JPEG when compatibility or file-size requirements specifically call for it.

Which Edge capture method should you use?
| Goal | Best route | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Whole webpage, including content below the viewport | Edge Screenshot → Capture full page | One tall image; exact output encoding is not guaranteed by Microsoft’s documentation. |
| A visible or selected portion | Edge Screenshot → Capture area | Draw a rectangle, review, and save. |
| Anything currently visible on screen, a window, or a rectangle | Windows Snipping Tool | Convenient for screen-level captures; it is not Edge’s documented whole-page workflow. |
| Print-oriented layout or a PDF | Edge Print (Ctrl+P) | Print settings such as scaling and background graphics; not a direct JPG conversion. |
| Automated captures from URLs or application code | ScreenshotNeo | API and MCP workflow; clean captures and billing protection described below. |
Use Windows Snipping Tool for screen-level captures
Windows Snipping Tool is an included alternative when you need the visible screen, a window, or a rectangular/other selected region. Open Snipping Tool, choose the capture mode, take the snip, make any edits, and save it. It is appropriate for what is currently displayed, but it does not replace Edge Screenshot when you need the entire webpage below the viewport.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not use Edge Print as a JPG converter
Press Ctrl+P or choose Print from Edge’s menu to open print settings. The dialog provides controls such as scaling and background graphics and can offer a PDF destination. This is a print workflow, not a documented direct webpage-to-JPG export.
If you need a PDF rendition, save to a PDF destination first and then use a separate PDF-to-image tool that supports JPEG. Expect pagination, margins, and print CSS to change the appearance compared with a screenshot.

What about browser extensions?
Some Microsoft Edge Add-ons listings advertise full-page capture with JPG export. One listing for PageSaver advertised those capabilities, while the associated search result reported that it could not be installed because it was incompatible with the browser version at that time. Treat such listings as feature claims, not as a compatibility guarantee, privacy assessment, or endorsement. For most users, the built-in Edge workflow avoids installing another component.
Troubleshooting Edge-to-JPG captures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot/Web capture is missing | Different Edge version, device, or market; command name changed. | Update Edge, check the three-dot menu, and try Ctrl+Shift+S where supported. |
| The shortcut does nothing | The shortcut is unavailable or intercepted by another application. | Use the menu command. Close software that remaps keyboard shortcuts and test again. |
| The result stops at the visible viewport | Area mode was selected, or full-page capture was not completed. | Reopen Screenshot and choose Capture full page. |
| Images lower on the page are blank | Lazy loading or a slow network request. | Wait for the page to settle, scroll through the document to trigger loading, then capture again. |
| The file is not a JPG | Edge saved an image format other than JPEG; Microsoft does not promise a JPEG output. | Open the file in an editor and explicitly export as JPEG. Verify the resulting file type. |
| Text looks soft after conversion | JPEG compression or an undersized capture. | Export at a higher quality, capture at a larger viewport or scale, and avoid repeatedly re-saving the JPEG. |
| The page is extremely tall or the save fails | Large image dimensions, memory pressure, or complex page content. | Capture sections separately, reduce unnecessary page content, or use an automated capture service that can process the URL. |
| A cookie dialog or chat bubble covers the page | The overlay is part of the rendered page at capture time. | Dismiss it before capturing, or use a service that removes known consent banners and widgets before capture. |
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is the #1 option when you need repeatable URL-to-image captures: it removes common cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified by X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server also lets Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client call screenshot tools directly.
For one URL, make a GET request to the ScreenshotNeo API. The examples use https://stripe.com; replace that value with the page you need.

Frequently asked questions
Can Edge save a webpage directly as JPG?
It can save a Screenshot result as an image, but Microsoft’s documented pages do not guarantee that the encoding is always JPEG or provide a format selector. Verify the file and export it as JPEG when necessary.
Best Value
- Scanner type: Document
- Connectivity technology: USB
- With Auto Scan Mode, the scanner automatically detects what you're scanning
- Digitize documents and images
Will full-page capture include content hidden behind a scroll bar?
Capture full page is intended for content beyond the viewport. Dynamic, lazy-loaded, or personalized sections may still need time to load before you capture.
Is a screenshot the same as a printed webpage?
No. Screenshot records the rendered page, while Print applies print layout, scaling, margins, and background-graphics settings. Choose Print when you need a PDF or paper-oriented result.
What should I do if JPEG quality is unacceptable?
Keep the original capture, export at a higher JPEG quality, and avoid repeated JPEG re-encoding. For line-heavy interfaces, retain a PNG master when your destination permits it.
