The result is not always the same: a full-page screenshot preserves the page as one image-like capture, while print-to-PDF creates a paginated document that may reflow text, omit interactive content, or insert page breaks. Open the saved file and check it before sharing or archiving it.
Choose the right kind of PDF
There are two practical ways to turn a long webpage into a PDF:
- Full-page screenshot: captures content beyond the visible screen as a tall, image-like record. This is useful when visual appearance matters.
- Print-to-PDF: sends the page through the browser’s print layout and creates normal PDF pages. Text may be easier to search or copy, but the layout can differ from the live page.
Neither method guarantees that every animation, embedded widget, lazy-loaded image, login-only section, or interactive control will appear exactly as it did in the browser. For a long or important page, inspect the PDF from beginning to end and confirm that headings, images, tables, and the final section are present.
Save a full-page webpage as a PDF on iPhone in Safari
Use the iPhone screenshot controls
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware screenshot controls.
- Tap the screenshot preview that appears.
- At the top of the editor, choose Full Page. Safari can extend the capture beyond the visible screen to include the entire webpage.
- Use the save or share controls shown on your iPhone to keep the full-page capture. The available destination depends on your iOS version and installed apps.
This route is best when you need a visual record of the page rather than a reflowed document. Very long pages can produce a large file, and content that loads only after scrolling may still be absent if Safari has not loaded it.

Use Safari’s documented PDF and Markup path
- With the page open, tap Safari’s Page Menu.
- Tap Share, then choose Markup.
- Make any annotations you need.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, give the document a name, select a folder, and save it.
Labels can move slightly between iOS releases and Safari layouts. Follow the controls displayed on your device. Markup is useful when the PDF must include highlights, drawings, or other review notes.
Save a webpage as a PDF on a desktop computer with Chrome
- Open the complete webpage in Chrome and wait for important images or sections to load.
- Open Chrome’s Print command.
- In the destination or printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Review the page preview and any available layout, paper-size, margin, color, or background-graphics settings.
- Click Save, choose a folder, name the file, and confirm.
Chrome’s desktop print flow creates a paginated PDF; it is not a pixel-identical full-page screenshot. If the page has a fixed navigation bar, ads, cookie dialogs, or a responsive layout, the print preview may differ from what you saw on screen. Close overlays before printing and use the preview to catch clipped columns or missing backgrounds.
When you specifically need a tall screenshot
The cited Chrome computer instructions document print-to-PDF, not a universal full-page screenshot command. Use a browser capture feature or a screenshot service when the requirement is a single visual capture rather than printable pages. Do not assume that Chrome’s Save as PDF output preserves the exact screen layout.

Save a webpage as a PDF on Android with Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Share, then Print.
- In the printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Choose a storage location, name the file, and tap the save control.
Before saving, let images and expandable sections finish loading. Android Chrome uses the print pipeline here, so the output is a paginated document rather than a guaranteed single, tall screenshot.

- Open the webpage in Firefox for iOS.
- Take a device screenshot.
- Open the screenshot preview.
- Select Full Page to extend the capture beyond the visible screen.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
- Select the destination and save the file.
This procedure is specifically for Firefox on iOS. It should not be generalized to Firefox desktop or Firefox on Android, where menus and capture capabilities differ.

Prepare a page before capturing it
- Wait for lazy content: scroll through the page once so images and sections that load on demand have a chance to appear.
- Dismiss overlays: close cookie notices, newsletter prompts, chat bubbles, and floating video players that cover content.
- Check the session: sign in first if the page requires authentication, and avoid capturing private information you do not intend to share.
- Use a stable view: stop autoplay video and wait for layout shifts to finish.
- Review the result: look for blank image areas, missing bottom sections, duplicated headers, clipped tables, and awkward page breaks.

Troubleshooting
The PDF stops before the bottom of the page
The page may use lazy loading, infinite scrolling, or content that appears only after interaction. Scroll through it first, wait for network activity to settle, and capture again. If the page never has a fixed end, a browser print job cannot know how much to include; capture the needed sections separately or use a service that supports waits and full-page capture.

Images are blank or missing
Wait for images to load, disable aggressive content blocking for the page, and repeat the capture. Some images require a login, a referrer, or JavaScript and may not be available to the print renderer.
Cookie banners or chat widgets cover the page
Dismiss them before taking a device screenshot or printing. If the controls are inaccessible, use a capture workflow that can accept consent and hide overlays before rendering.
The printed PDF has strange page breaks
Print-to-PDF follows print CSS and page dimensions, not the screen’s exact pixels. Try a different paper size, margins, orientation, or scale, and inspect the preview. For a visual replica, use a full-page screenshot instead.

The iPhone does not show “Full Page”
Make sure the screenshot was taken while the webpage was open in Safari or Firefox for iOS and that you tapped the screenshot preview. Full-page options are context-sensitive and can vary with the app, document type, and iOS version.
The saved file is too large to send
For a screenshot-style PDF, reduce the capture dimensions or export a lower-resolution copy where your app provides that option. For print PDFs, reduce image quality only after confirming that text remains legible.

- Open the file on a second device or PDF viewer.
- Confirm the page title, URL context, date, and all expected sections.
- Check the first and last pages for clipping.
- Zoom into tables, code, and small text.
- Verify that private account details, tokens, and personal data are not visible.
- Keep the original URL separately when the PDF will serve as an archive or citation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a full-page screenshot PDF preserve animations or forms?
No. A PDF records a rendered state at capture time; animations stop at a frame and interactive controls may not work. Save the live URL separately when interaction matters.
