To capture an entire webpage as one scrolling screenshot in Edge, first check whether your installed Edge version offers a full-page option in Web capture, then inspect the result to confirm it includes content below the visible screen. Microsoft’s available support instructions do not establish the current Edge menu path or shortcut for that option, so avoid relying on a particular key combination without checking your own browser. For a screenshot of only what is currently visible, use Windows+Shift+S. For a page capture stored in OneNote, Microsoft documents the OneNote Web Clipper’s Full Page option.

What counts as a scrolling screenshot?

A scrolling or full-page screenshot captures content beyond the part of a webpage currently visible in the browser window. Its intended result is one tall image of the page, rather than a screenshot of only the current viewport or a document divided across printed pages.

That distinction matters when choosing a method. A visible-screen capture is quick, but it does not capture the rest of a long page. A print-to-PDF workflow can preserve a readable record, but its output is generally paginated rather than one continuous image. A browser’s full-page capture, when available and working for the page, is the option designed for a single extended image.

How to check Edge for a full-page capture option

Microsoft’s support pages do not verify the current Edge Web capture menu, shortcut, or full-page control. That does not establish that the feature is absent; it means the exact instructions can depend on what is present in the Edge version installed on your Windows 11 PC. Check the browser itself before using the capture for something important.

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture in Microsoft Edge and let it finish loading.
  2. Look in Edge’s available capture commands for Web capture and a choice that indicates a full-page or entire-page capture. The exact menu path and wording are not confirmed here, so do not assume a particular location or shortcut.
  3. Choose the full-page option if your installed version provides one. Follow the on-screen capture and save controls shown by that version.
  4. Open and inspect the saved result. Check that it extends below the original viewport and that the parts you need are present. Do not treat a capture as complete just because the browser produced an image.

Microsoft’s Edge keyboard-shortcuts reference is useful for checking documented shortcuts, but the support information available for this article does not establish a current full-page capture shortcut. If you cannot find the option, use one of the alternatives below rather than guessing at a key combination.

Capture only the visible screen with Snipping Tool

If you need the browser area currently on screen—not the entire scrollable webpage—Windows 11’s Snipping Tool is the built-in route. Microsoft’s instruction is: “Press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the snipping tool overlay to capture an image snapshot.” The available modes listed by Microsoft are freeform, rectangle, window, and full screen. They capture screen areas; they are not a documented scrolling-page mode.

  1. Bring the webpage into view in Edge.
  2. Press Windows+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool overlay.
  3. Choose the capture mode that fits the visible content: freeform, rectangle, window, or full screen.
  4. Select or capture the screen area, then save or copy the snapshot using the controls available in Windows.

This works for a portion of the page that is visible at that moment. To preserve more content this way, you would need to scroll and capture additional portions separately; the result is not automatically a single continuous webpage image. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions describe the capture overlay and modes. Microsoft also notes that some Snipping Tool functions are limited to Copilot+ PCs, so do not assume every optional function is available on every Windows 11 device.

Capture a webpage into OneNote with Web Clipper

If saving a webpage into OneNote is acceptable, Microsoft’s OneNote Web Clipper documentation describes a Full Page option that puts a screenshot image of the current webpage into a OneNote notebook. This is a browser-extension workflow, not a built-in Edge screenshot that saves directly as a standalone image.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Set up the OneNote Web Clipper extension using Microsoft’s Getting Started with the OneNote Web Clipper instructions.
  2. Open the webpage in Edge and launch Web Clipper from the browser’s extension controls.
  3. Choose Full Page and follow the prompts to save the capture into a OneNote notebook.
  4. Open the saved clip and check that the screenshot covers the page content you intended to keep.

Setup may require signing in and approving the extension permissions it requests. If you do not want to use OneNote or install an extension, this is not the right workflow. The Microsoft documentation establishes the Full Page screenshot option, but it does not mean every dynamic or restricted webpage will render identically in a saved capture.

Use Edge printing for a readable or printable record

For a record that is easier to read, print, or share as a document, Edge’s print flow may fit better than an image. Press Ctrl+P to open print settings, then choose the available destination and options for your intended output. Microsoft documents this flow in Print in Microsoft Edge.

Printing is not a promise of one tall screenshot. Print output commonly breaks content into pages, and its layout is governed by print settings rather than the exact appearance of a single browser-window image. Choose it when a paginated document is useful, not when the requirement is specifically one continuous image.

Choose the method by the output you need

Need Method What to expect
One tall image of the webpage Check Edge for a full-page Web capture option Confirm the control exists in your installed version and inspect the resulting image.
A snapshot of what is visible now Windows+Shift+S with Snipping Tool A screen-area image; Microsoft lists freeform, rectangle, window, and full-screen modes.
A webpage screenshot saved into a notebook OneNote Web Clipper, Full Page A capture placed in OneNote; extension setup and sign-in may be involved.
A readable or printable document Edge print flow with Ctrl+P Print output, commonly paginated, rather than a single tall screenshot.

Check the capture before relying on it

A full-page capture can be incomplete even when the command appears to succeed. Pages may load sections as you scroll, update content dynamically, or limit access to signed-in users. The supported instructions cited above do not promise identical results for every webpage. Before sharing, archiving, or using an image as evidence, open it and check the details that matter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Look below the first screen: confirm the image includes the lower sections you wanted.
  • Check the beginning and end: make sure the top was not clipped and the final section is present.
  • Review changing content: verify that images, menus, or other elements that load later are actually visible in the saved result.
  • Protect private information: inspect the image for account details, personal data, or content you did not intend to share.

Troubleshooting

There is no full-page option in Edge

The current Edge menu and shortcut are not verified by the Microsoft support pages cited here. Check the controls in your installed browser and its documented shortcuts rather than assuming an internet guide’s key combination is current. If a full-page command is not available to you, use OneNote Web Clipper for a page screenshot in OneNote, or use Snipping Tool for the visible screen.

The screenshot contains only the visible portion

You may have used a screen-area capture rather than a full-page capture. Snipping Tool’s listed modes capture a screen snapshot; they do not document a scrolling webpage mode. Look specifically for a full-page choice in Edge or choose Web Clipper’s Full Page option if you want a webpage capture.

The capture is missing content or looks different from the live page

Inspect the webpage itself and the saved file. Content that loads dynamically, appears only after interaction, or requires permission may not be represented as expected. Try again after the relevant content has loaded, and verify the result before relying on it. No cited Microsoft instruction guarantees that every page’s dynamic content will be captured identically.

You need a document rather than a long image

Use Edge’s Ctrl+P print flow and review the resulting print layout. That workflow is intended for print output; it does not turn the page into one continuous screenshot.

If your goal is to capture a webpage through an API, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. It also offers an MCP server so AI agents can take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API details.

Example using cURL (replace the URL with the page you want to capture):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Or use Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Or Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a full-page screenshot the same as a scrolling screenshot?

In this context, both terms mean a capture intended to include webpage content beyond the visible browser viewport.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use the Snipping Tool to save one continuous image of a long webpage?

Microsoft documents Snipping Tool’s screen snapshot modes, not a scrolling webpage mode. Use a full-page webpage capture workflow for one extended image.

Will printing from Edge save the page as a screenshot?

Printing produces print output, commonly divided into pages; it is not the same as saving a single tall screenshot.
