For most people, Microsoft Edge’s built-in Screenshot is the best first choice: press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, and Edge captures content beyond the visible screen without making you scroll manually. Install an extension only when you need a specialized export, annotation workflow, or a different way to handle very long or dynamic pages.

These are not interchangeable. A stitched extension can behave differently from Edge’s native capture on animations, nested scroll areas and pages with sticky elements. Decide whether you need a document image, a PDF, an annotated explanation or simply a fast copy of a page before choosing.
Start with Edge’s built-in Screenshot
Capture an entire webpage
- Open the page in Edge and wait for the content you need to load.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page. Edge captures content extending beyond the viewport, so you do not have to drag the scrollbar.
- Use the capture controls to copy, save or mark up the result, depending on the options shown in your Edge build.
Capture only what matters
Use the selection mode when a full document contains private information, navigation, advertisements or unrelated sections. A visible-area capture is preferable for a live dashboard or video frame where you want exactly what is on screen at that moment.
Moving and lazy-loaded content
Microsoft describes Edge Screenshot as able to capture moving content such as videos, GIFs and carousels. Results can still depend on timing: a carousel may change slides while the capture is made, and a page that loads images only after scrolling may not show every image in the first attempt. Pause important media, allow the page to settle and check the resulting image before sharing it.
When an extension is worth installing
- PDF production: You need a print-friendly or searchable document rather than a single raster image.
- Repeatable stitching: You want a toolbar button that automatically scrolls through the page and assembles sections.
- Annotation: You need arrows, labels, shapes or emoji as part of the capture workflow.
- Special page behavior: The built-in tool does not handle a particular site, inner scroll panel or export format the way you need.
Extensions receive access to the pages you capture, so convenience is not the only criterion. Microsoft advises evaluating add-ons for security, privacy, performance and user experience. A Featured badge is a quality signal at the time Microsoft evaluates an extension, not a guarantee that every future version fits your needs.

FireShot: best for PDF-oriented work
FireShot is the clearest choice when your deliverable is a PDF or you need several output formats. Its Edge listing describes full-page and scrolling capture and exports to PDF, JPEG and PNG. The Pro tier adds text-searchable PDFs, printing, editing and the ability to save all open tabs to PDF.
Choose FireShot when a client, archive or records process expects a PDF, especially if text search or multi-tab export saves you from post-processing. Confirm which functions are available in the edition you install before designing a workflow around them.

GoFullPage is built around a straightforward sequence: click the extension, let it scroll through each visible section, then download the assembled image or PDF. The vendor explains that it must scroll to every visible part and asks users to be patient while it assembles the pieces.
Its documented large-page behavior matters for long documentation, feeds and dashboards: a page that is too large for one Edge image can be split into separate images. Plan to name and join those files if your recipient expects one document.
Full Page Screenshot: best when annotation is central
Full Page Screenshot provides full-page, visible-part and selected-area modes, then offers an editor with text, arrows, shapes and emoji. It is useful for bug reports, training notes and review comments where the markup is as important as the pixels.
Annotation tools add an extra save or export step. Keep an untouched capture when the image may later be used as evidence, and annotate a copy for discussion.
Comparison criteria that prevent bad results
Capture scope
“Full page” can mean the document’s full height, the currently visible viewport or the selected rectangle. Check the mode before capturing confidential material. For pages with an inner scroll box, test whether the tool captures the box’s contents or only the outer document.

Scrolling can trigger sticky headers, cookie dialogs, chat widgets and animations. These may appear repeatedly in stitched output or cover different text in each segment. Dismiss overlays first, pause animations and inspect joins near fixed-position elements.
Output and editing
PNG is lossless and suitable for UI details; JPEG is smaller but can blur text; PDF is convenient for reading and printing. Searchable PDF is a separate capability from simply placing an image in a PDF, so select FireShot Pro when text search is a requirement.

Very large pages
Long pages consume memory while sections are rendered and assembled. A split result is not necessarily a failed capture. Save each part, record the order and combine them only after verifying that no section is missing.
Permissions and updates
Read the Edge Add-ons permission and privacy panels. An extension that can read and change data on websites can potentially see sensitive pages. Remove unused extensions, keep the browser current and review the listing’s update activity before granting broad access.

- Prepare the page. Sign in if required, close unrelated tabs, dismiss consent banners and chat windows, and wait for fonts and images to finish loading.
- Choose the least powerful tool. Use Edge Screenshot for a normal full-page image; choose FireShot for PDF workflows, GoFullPage for simple stitching or Full Page Screenshot for markup.
- Capture a short test. On a long or unusual page, capture a representative section first. Look for clipped text, repeated headers, missing lazy-loaded images and blank areas.
- Run the full capture. Do not interact with the tab while an extension is scrolling. Let it finish assembling every section.
- Inspect joins and the bottom edge. Check transitions around sticky navigation, tables, videos and embedded frames. Confirm the final section is present.
- Export deliberately. Pick PNG for pixel accuracy, JPEG for a smaller photographic image, or PDF for a document-style handoff. Keep the original if you add annotations.
Troubleshooting
The capture stops partway down
Reduce other browser activity, reload the page and try again. A script error, an infinite feed or a page that replaces its DOM while scrolling can interrupt stitching. Capture in sections if the page never reaches a stable end.
Images or sections are blank
Scroll once through the page first to trigger lazy loading, wait for placeholders to resolve, then recapture. If an image is inside an embedded frame or protected viewer, the extension may not be able to read it.

The result has repeated or missing content
Fixed headers and animated carousels can change between segments. Hide or pause them where the site allows, or use a selected-area capture. Compare the top and bottom of each join before publishing.
A very long page produces multiple files
GoFullPage documents that pages too large for one Edge image may be split. Keep the parts in order and export a PDF or stitched composite only after checking scale and readability.

Check its requested permissions and whether the page is a browser-internal URL, an extension page or a protected embedded document. Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot for ordinary tabs, and avoid granting permissions you do not need.
PDF text is not searchable
