Use Microsoft Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool first. Open it from the page’s right-click menu, Edge Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S, then choose Capture full page. Edge can include content below the fold and moving elements such as video, GIFs, and carousels. You can mark up the result, copy it, or save it. Install an extension only when you need a capability Edge does not provide, such as recording, specialized redaction, a particular export workflow, or link sharing.
Microsoft notes that Screenshot availability and behavior can vary by device type, market, and Edge version, so labels and shortcuts may differ on your installation.
Take a full-page screenshot with Edge’s built-in tool
- Open the webpage you want to capture in Microsoft Edge.
- Open Screenshot using one of these documented routes: right-click the page and select Screenshot, open it from Edge Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page. This captures material below the visible viewport instead of only what is currently on screen.
- Review the result. Use the pen or touch tools to add markup if required.
- Select Copy to place the image on the clipboard, or Save to store it as an image.
If you only need part of a page, choose the selected-area option instead. Full-page mode is useful for long articles, receipts, documentation, and pages whose content continues below the fold.
Capturing moving content
Microsoft describes Edge Screenshot as able to capture moving content, including video, GIFs, and carousels. Results can depend on what is rendered at the moment of capture; pause or position an animation when a particular frame matters.

When the shortcut or menu is missing
Check Edge’s version and update it through Settings and more (…) → Help and feedback → About Microsoft Edge. Feature availability can vary by browser version, device, and market, so use the Settings search box for “Screenshot” if the right-click command or shortcut is not shown. Managed work or school devices may also restrict browser features.
Do you need an Edge extension?
Not for an ordinary full-page image. The built-in tool covers full-page and selected-area capture, markup, copying, and saving. An extension becomes reasonable when you have a specific requirement:
- Recording: CocoShot’s Edge Add-ons listing advertises screen recording in addition to screenshots.
- Editing or redaction: CocoShot advertises annotation and blur tools; these are listing descriptions, not independent test results.
- PDF or alternate exports: CocoShot advertises PDF export, while GoFullPage describes image and PDF downloads.
- Very long pages: GoFullPage says especially large pages may be split into multiple images and references a premium editor.
- Sharing workflows: QwikCapture describes annotation, PNG saving, and link sharing that starts when the user chooses to share.
Store descriptions can change and were not independently tested here. Do not treat a rating, user count, store placement, or marketing statement as a security, accuracy, or performance audit.
Choosing an extension by the job
| Need | Built-in Edge Screenshot | Extension example | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-page image | Supported | GoFullPage advertises it | Whether long pages are split and in which format |
| Selected-area capture | Supported | Many extensions advertise alternatives | Selection controls and keyboard conflicts |
| Markup | Pen or touch markup | CocoShot advertises richer annotation and blur | Whether edits are local and whether redaction is permanent |
| PDF output | Not the primary documented Screenshot output | CocoShot and GoFullPage listings advertise PDF workflows | Page breaks, selectable text, size limits, and pricing |
| Screen recording | Not the primary documented Screenshot function | CocoShot advertises recording | Audio, permissions, frame rate, and retention |
| Share link | Copy or save the image | QwikCapture describes user-initiated sharing | What is uploaded, retention, and link access |
Match the extension to your required output first. Then check whether it supports the page type, editing step, and Edge version you use.

Install, review, and remove an Edge screenshot extension
- Open Extensions from Edge’s Settings and more (…) menu, then choose Get extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the extension name and read its complete listing, permissions, developer identity, update history, and privacy disclosure.
- Select Get, review the access prompt, and confirm only if the requested access matches the advertised job.
- Capture a non-sensitive test page first. Confirm the output format, full-page behavior, and editing or sharing flow before using it on private material.
- To disable or remove it, open Extensions, select the extension’s menu, and choose the appropriate disable or remove command.
Check site access
Edge lets you review and change an extension’s site access. Open Extensions, select the extension’s details, and inspect the site-access setting. Prefer the narrowest option that still works, such as access only when you click the extension, rather than unrestricted access on every site.
Microsoft’s Edge Add-ons policy says an extension should request only permissions necessary for its declared functionality and should provide a product-relevant privacy policy. Treat the marketplace privacy summary as the developer’s disclosure, not an independent audit.
Example: QwikCapture’s disclosure
QwikCapture’s listing says capture, editing, copying, and saving are local by default, and that sharing uploads only after the user clicks Share image. That is the publisher’s stated behavior; verify the current listing and policy before relying on it for confidential data.
Privacy and security checklist
- Read the requested permissions before installation. A screenshot tool may need access to page content, but broad access to every site deserves scrutiny.
- Check whether images are processed locally or uploaded. If upload is optional, leave sharing disabled unless you need it.
- Never capture passwords, payment details, private customer records, or internal dashboards in a test run.
- Review the developer’s privacy policy for retention, analytics, third-party processors, and deletion controls.
- Revisit permissions after updates; store listings, versions, and access requests can change.
- Remove extensions you no longer use instead of leaving their page access active.
Troubleshooting full-page captures
The screenshot stops at the visible viewport
Reopen Screenshot and explicitly choose Capture full page, not selected area. If the command is unavailable, update Edge and check whether your device or organization has restricted the feature. Some pages render additional content only after scrolling; wait for the page to finish loading before capturing.

Images or sections are blank
Lazy-loaded images may not exist until the page reaches their position. Scroll through the page once, allow media to load, then retry. Disable aggressive content-blocking extensions temporarily to identify conflicts, and test in an InPrivate window with only the required extension enabled.
The page contains a fixed header or sticky banner
Sticky elements can appear repeatedly in a stitched image. Close the banner or use an extension with a hide-element or editing workflow if that function is explicitly documented. Do not assume an extension removes overlays unless its current listing says so.
The output is blurry or too large
Use the original saved image rather than a preview copied from a scaled editor. For very long pages, an extension may split the result; export each segment or use a PDF workflow when a single raster image would exceed practical dimensions.
A capture fails on a protected or interactive page
Bot checks, login walls, cross-origin frames, and continuously changing content can prevent a reliable capture. Confirm that you are authorized to access the page, wait for authentication to complete, and retry with animations paused. A browser screenshot cannot bypass a CAPTCHA or access content your session cannot view.

Performance, reliability, and file handling
Full-page capture is a rendering task: the browser must lay out the page, load resources, and combine content beyond the viewport. Long pages with large images, canvases, video, or infinite scrolling take longer and consume more memory. Close unrelated tabs, wait for network activity to settle, and capture a defined page state rather than a page that keeps loading.
For repeatable documentation, record the URL, date, Edge version, viewport size, and whether you were signed in. Save the original output before annotating it. If the page is frequently updated, a PDF or a sequence of section captures may be easier to compare than one enormous image.
Extensions can add their own processing, cloud upload, premium limits, or export restrictions. Check the current listing for those terms; the reviewed listings do not establish a common price, retention period, or performance benchmark.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed.
It also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper settings and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector waits, delays, network-idle waits, request and resource blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Edge capture an entire page that requires scrolling?
Yes. Edge’s documented Capture full page mode is intended to include content below the visible viewport, subject to the page rendering successfully and the feature being available in your Edge build.
Will a full-page screenshot include content behind a login?
Only content your current Edge session can view. Sign in first when authorized; a screenshot tool does not bypass authentication or access controls.
Are Edge screenshot extensions automatically private?
No. Privacy depends on permissions, local-versus-upload processing, and the developer’s disclosure. Review those details before installation and after updates.
Can I use an extension and Edge Screenshot together?
Yes. They are separate tools, but keyboard shortcuts, page access, and overlay behavior can conflict. Disable one temporarily when diagnosing a problem.
