Firefox can capture a complete, scrolling web page without an extension. Open the screenshot tool, choose Save full page rather than Save visible, then download the image or copy it to your clipboard. For repeatable captures and extra controls, Firefox Developer Tools also supports full-page screenshots and the :screenshot --fullpage command.
Capture an entire page with Firefox’s built-in tool
- Open the page you want to capture in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click can open the context menu.
- Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot controls at the upper right, select Save full page.
- Choose Download to save the image, or Copy to place it on the clipboard.
Save full page includes content below the current viewport. Save visible captures only the portion currently displayed on screen. The screenshot is saved as an image in Firefox’s default download folder. Mozilla documents a default filename pattern such as Screenshot [date and time] [page title].png. The downloaded file can then be opened, renamed, attached, or edited in another application.
Make the screenshot button easier to reach
If you capture pages frequently, add Firefox’s Screenshot button to the toolbar:
- Open the Firefox application menu.
- Select More Tools, then Customize Toolbar.
- Find the Screenshot item and drag it onto the toolbar.
- Click Done.
Clicking that toolbar button opens the same screenshot interface, including the full-page, visible-area, and region choices.

Save or copy the captured image
Download the image
Click Download in the screenshot interface. Firefox writes the image to its normal Downloads location unless your browser has been configured to ask where each download should go. The documented save shortcut is Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux, or Command+S on macOS.
Copy it to another app
Click Copy to put the screenshot on the clipboard, then paste it into an email, document, image editor, ticket, or chat. The documented copy shortcut is Ctrl+C on Windows and Linux, or Command+C on macOS.
The desktop Firefox screenshot tool is documented as an image-capture feature; Mozilla does not document a direct PDF export in this interface. If you need a PDF, use the page’s print dialog or another PDF workflow instead of expecting Take Screenshot to create one.
Use Developer Tools for advanced full-page captures
Developer Tools provide a second route. This is useful when you want a command, a delay, a particular filename, a device-pixel ratio, clipboard output, or a capture limited to one element.

Enable the full-page screenshot button
- Open Developer Tools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open Developer Tools Settings.
- In Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Close Settings. A screenshot icon appears in the Developer Tools toolbar.
- Click the icon to capture the full page. Firefox saves the resulting image in the browser’s Downloads directory.
Run the console command
In the Web Console, enter:
:screenshot --fullpageFirefox’s documentation lists optional parameters for this command, including:
- Copying the result to the clipboard.
- Waiting for a delay before capture, useful for a menu, hover state, or late-rendering content.
- Setting the device pixel ratio.
- Choosing a filename.
- Using a CSS selector to capture a single element instead of the entire page.
When preserving multiple captures, use a different filename each time. Reusing a name such as test.png overwrites the previous image.

Important limitations and privacy details
Dynamic and interactive pages
A full-page command tells Firefox to capture content beyond the viewport, but a page may still change while it is being rendered. Menus, hover states, animations, lazy-loaded components, consent dialogs, and content that appears only after a click can affect the result. The Developer Tools delay option can help when a state needs time to appear. For a page that requires an interaction first, perform that interaction before starting the capture.
Wayland desktop sessions
Mozilla notes that moving the screenshot crosshair does not work on Wayland. The screenshot UI documents keyboard movement and selection options, so use those controls when the pointer crosshair cannot be moved as expected.

What Firefox Screenshots records
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the page URL or details of the captured image. The support page describes controls for disabling add-on data collection and website data collection if you do not want those events sent.
Mobile Firefox is a separate workflow
Firefox for iOS uses the operating system’s screenshot workflow and has a separate Save as PDF path. Do not apply the desktop context-menu and Developer Tools steps to iPhone or iPad; use Mozilla’s iOS-specific guidance for that device.
Troubleshoot a missing, partial, or overwritten screenshot
“Take Screenshot” is not in the context menu
Use the keyboard shortcut instead: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. You can also add the Screenshot button through More Tools → Customize Toolbar.
The image contains only the visible area
Reopen the screenshot interface and choose Save full page. Save visible intentionally captures only the current viewport.

The capture starts before a menu or hover state appears
Use the Developer Tools console command and add a delay parameter, or trigger the menu/hover state first and then capture. A delay is also useful for content that takes longer to render.
A repeated Developer Tools capture replaced an earlier file
Specify a new filename for each capture. Firefox’s documented behavior is to overwrite an earlier image when the same filename, such as test.png, is reused.
The crosshair will not move
If you are running Firefox under Wayland, Mozilla documents a limitation with moving the screenshot crosshair. Use the keyboard movement and selection controls described in the screenshot interface, or use the full-page command when you do not need a region selection.
Copy does not paste anywhere
Use Download instead and attach the resulting image file. Clipboard behavior can depend on the destination application and desktop permissions, while a downloaded file provides a durable copy.

You expected a PDF
The desktop screenshot interface saves an image or copies an image. It is not documented as a direct PDF exporter. Use the browser’s print-to-PDF path when a PDF document is the actual requirement.
