A full-page screenshot add-on for Chrome captures content below the visible viewport by scrolling through the page and joining each section into one image or document. For the simplest workflow, install GoFullPage, open the page, click its toolbar icon (or press Alt+Shift+P), wait for the scroll-and-stitch process, inspect the result, and export PNG, JPEG, or PDF. If you cannot install extensions, Chrome DevTools provides a built-in full-size screenshot command.

What a full-page screenshot actually does

A normal screenshot records only the current viewport. A full-page capture repeatedly scrolls the document, records each visible section, and assembles the sections into a tall image or a paginated file. This is useful for documenting long articles, receipts, dashboards, landing pages, bug reports, and pages that must be shared without requiring the recipient to open a browser.

Results depend on how the site renders. Sticky headers, animated content, lazy-loaded images, cross-origin frames, and scripts that replace the browser’s normal scrollbar can all affect the assembled output. Treat the first capture as a result to inspect, not proof that every pixel was reproduced correctly.

Use GoFullPage as the Chrome add-on

Install and review permissions

  1. Open the GoFullPage listing in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Select Add to Chrome, confirm the installation, and pin the extension if you want its camera-style icon visible beside the address bar.
  3. Read the permission prompt. The developer says Downloads permission is needed to save files. Capturing content inside iframes may request tabs, webNavigation, and host permissions. These are developer explanations, not an independent security audit.
  4. Open the page you want to capture. Sign in first if the page requires authentication; the extension operates on the active tab when you activate it.

Capture and export

  1. Click the GoFullPage toolbar icon, or press Alt+Shift+P.
  2. Leave the tab open while the extension scrolls and processes each visible portion. A long page can take noticeably longer than a viewport screenshot.
  3. When the assembled preview appears, inspect joins, missing images, fixed elements, and any blank sections.
  4. Choose the required export. The listing advertises PNG, JPEG, and configurable PDF sizes. Its premium editor adds crop and annotation tools.

Exceptionally large captures can be split into multiple images because of Chrome storage limits. Save the parts together and, if a single file is required, join them in an image or PDF editor after checking that the seams are in the correct order.

When GoFullPage may not capture correctly

  • PDF documents: The publisher FAQ identifies PDFs as problematic. Use the PDF viewer’s own download or print controls instead.
  • Custom scrolling: Applications that scroll an internal panel or control scrolling with custom JavaScript may not expose the document as one ordinary page. Capture the panel separately, use the application’s export feature, or try DevTools.
  • Lazy content: Images and cards loaded only after scrolling may appear late or remain blank. Repeat the capture after the page has finished loading, or scroll manually once before activating the extension.
  • Animations and live data: Pause videos and wait for dashboards to settle. Otherwise different sections can represent different moments.
  • Frames: An iframe may need additional permissions and can still be restricted by the embedded site’s security policy. Verify the frame in the preview.
  • Very tall pages: Split output is expected at extreme heights; it is not necessarily a failed capture.

Chrome DevTools: a no-install alternative

Chrome’s developer tools include a full-size screenshot command, so you can capture a page without granting an extension access. The trade-off is a more technical interface and less convenient export editing.

GoFullPage or DevTools?

Choice Best fit Important trade-off
GoFullPage Repeated captures, keyboard activation, PNG/JPEG/PDF exports, and optional editing Requires an extension; downloads permission is needed, and iframe capture can require broader permissions. PDFs and custom scrolling can fail.
Chrome DevTools One-off captures when installation is prohibited Uses a developer-tools command and offers less purpose-built editing. Exact labels may vary by Chrome version.

The Web Store listing showed version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026, with 11,000,000 users, 84.2K ratings, and a displayed 4.9/5 rating when viewed September 29, 2026. Those are dated store figures; the listing says ratings update daily and can lag newer reviews. They are not a guarantee that a particular site will capture correctly.

Privacy and permission questions

GoFullPage’s listing says its developer declares that it does not collect or use user data. The developer’s September 2, 2025 permissions guide says Downloads allows saving files and that optional iframe capture can require tabs, webNavigation, and host permissions; it also says capture runs on the current tab when activated. Consider these statements developer representations rather than an independent audit. Avoid capturing pages containing secrets, payment details, health information, or customer data unless your organization’s policy permits it.

How to make a reliable capture

  • Use a stable window size and zoom level so repeated captures are comparable.
  • Wait for fonts, images, charts, and cookie notices to finish loading.
  • Dismiss consent banners and chat bubbles manually if they cover content.
  • Pause animation and video where possible.
  • Capture a short test page before committing to a very long report.
  • Open the exported file at 100% and inspect the top, middle, joins, and bottom.
  • Keep the original URL, capture date, and browser version with evidence intended for audits.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, which is practical for automated reports, scheduled captures, and AI-agent workflows.

Its clean-shot pipeline accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and options. The API supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets plus custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper sizes and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, request/resource blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen-TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of 100 URLs per call, usage reporting, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, easing migrations.

Cost and reliability

The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card. Paid plans are Starter $5 for 3,000, Growth $15 for 15,000, Pro $39 for 60,000, Scale $99 for 250,000, and Business $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is available on every plan. Cache hits do not consume a billed clean shot, while failed loads and bot checks are identified in the response rather than silently treated as successful images.

Troubleshooting checklist

The extension icon does nothing

Refresh the page, confirm the tab is a normal web page rather than a Chrome internal page, and retry from the toolbar. If the site is a PDF or uses an embedded viewer, use its download control or DevTools.

The output stops halfway

Look for an internal scrolling container, a script-controlled scrollbar, a blocked iframe, or an exceptionally tall document. Test a shorter URL, capture the relevant element separately, or switch methods.

Images are missing

Wait for network activity to settle, scroll once manually to trigger lazy loading, disable aggressive content blocking for the test, and capture again. Compare the preview with the live page before publishing the image.

There are duplicate or moving headers

Sticky elements can be recorded in several segments. Hide the element if the extension offers that control, use a custom capture workflow, or crop the exported file after inspection.

DevTools cannot find the command

Open the command menu from inside DevTools, search for “full size screenshot,” and ensure Chrome is current. If policy prevents DevTools or downloads, use an approved API such as ScreenshotNeo instead.

Why is my full-page image split into several files?

Extremely tall captures can exceed Chrome storage limits; GoFullPage may split them into multiple images.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will a full-page tool capture an embedded iframe?

Sometimes. GoFullPage may request additional permissions for iframe capture, and the embedded site’s security policy can still limit what is captured.

Is a screenshot API better for automated jobs?

For recurring or server-side captures, an API avoids keeping a browser tab open and can return structured billing and verdict headers; choose options that match your privacy and retention requirements.
