The quickest method is your browser’s print dialog: open the page, choose Print, select a PDF destination, set Landscape, correct scale or margins while watching the preview, and save. You do not need a physical printer. Firefox and Edge expose an explicit landscape control; Chrome opens the same print-preview workflow, although labels vary by operating system and release.
What a landscape web-page PDF is—and when to use it
A landscape PDF uses a wider page than a portrait PDF. It is useful for spreadsheets, comparison tables, dashboards, diagrams, timelines, code samples and other layouts that become cramped or wrap badly on a tall page. Orientation alone cannot guarantee a perfect result: a page can still be wider than the printable area, contain responsive elements, or use screen-only styling.
Browser print engines create a paginated representation of the page, not a pixel-for-pixel copy of the screen. Mozilla Support warns that “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised to see some changes.” Treat the preview as the source of truth before saving.
Universal desktop method
- Open the web page and wait until the content you need has loaded. Expand accordions, load additional rows, or dismiss overlays that would otherwise be printed.
- Open the print dialog. In Chrome on Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+P; on Mac, press Command+P. You can also use the browser’s File → Print command. Firefox and Edge provide an equivalent Print command.
- In Destination, choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF or Save to PDF. A physical printer is not required.
- Set Layout or Orientation to Landscape.
- Review every page in the preview. If columns are clipped, change paper size, scale or margins; if text becomes uncomfortably small, simplify the page or remove nonessential elements instead of continually shrinking it.
- Choose Save or Print, select a filename and folder, and create the PDF.
- Reopen the saved PDF in a viewer. Check the first and last page, wide tables, images, page breaks, links and any content that was near the edge.
Firefox: explicit landscape and formatting controls
In Firefox’s print preview, choose Save to PDF from the destination dropdown, then set Orientation → Landscape. Open More settings when you need additional controls.

Settings that matter in Firefox
- Paper size: a larger sheet provides more usable width, but the reader may later print the PDF on a different size.
- Scale: reduce it only enough to bring the widest content inside the page. Excessive reduction harms readability.
- Pages per sheet: useful for handouts, but it shrinks the document and is usually unsuitable for data-heavy tables.
- Margins: narrower margins increase content width; keep enough space for printing or binding.
- Format: where offered, Original preserves the normal page styling. Simplified removes much surrounding structure for a cleaner article-style result.
- Print backgrounds: enable this when color bands, chart backgrounds or shaded table cells carry meaning. Firefox notes that Simplified format disables background printing.
- Headers and footers: turn them off when browser-generated URLs, dates or titles interfere with the layout; leave them on when provenance is important.
- Two-sided printing: this affects a physical print workflow, not the page orientation of the PDF itself.
After each major change, inspect the preview again. Switching to Simplified can change typography and remove navigation, so verify that headings, figures and captions you need are still present.
Microsoft Edge: landscape, fit and clutter-free output
Open the site or document, choose Print, and set Layout → Landscape. Edge’s More settings area includes paper-size and scale controls. Depending on the release, scale choices can include fitting to the printable area, actual size or a custom percentage.
How to prevent clipping in Edge
- Start with Fit to printable area when the page is only slightly wider than the sheet.
- Use Actual size when exact dimensions matter and the content already fits.
- Use a custom percentage for a controlled compromise between width and legibility.
- Preview the left and right edges of every wide page. Edge’s own guidance recommends previewing margins or making a test print when scaled output matters.
Edge also offers a clutter-free print option that removes surrounding material such as advertisements and site navigation. Use it for article pages where the main text is what you need; do not assume it will preserve application controls, dashboards or interactive widgets.
Google Chrome desktop: print preview and PDF destination
In Chrome, open File → Print or use Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux and Command+P on Mac. Select the PDF destination and the print settings offered by your system. Chrome’s exact labels and available controls can differ between operating systems and browser releases, so look for the orientation, paper-size, scale and margin controls in the preview panel.

When Save as PDF is available, select it, confirm the preview, and save. Chrome’s desktop help also documents saving print output as a PDF for workflows involving Drive for desktop or later uploading. If a managed computer supplies a different PDF destination, choose the organization-approved PDF option and keep the same landscape-and-preview process.
Choosing orientation, paper, scale and margins

Change one variable at a time. A practical sequence is landscape first, then paper size, then a modest scale reduction, and finally margins. If the preview still shows a tiny page, simplify the source rather than forcing everything onto one sheet.
Reducing clutter before printing
Use the browser’s simplified mode
Firefox’s Simplified format and Edge’s clutter-free printing can remove ads, navigation and other surrounding material. This often gives an article more usable width, but it can also remove branding, controls, sidebars or background colors. Compare the simplified preview with the original before deciding.
Prepare an application page
For dashboards and internal tools, close menus, expand the table area, select the required date range and wait for asynchronous data to finish loading. If a page requires a login, print only after the authenticated view is visible. Browser print output may omit hover-only content, collapsed panels and elements rendered solely after interaction.

Common failures and precise fixes
Columns are cut off
Confirm Landscape, then try Fit to printable area or a small custom scale reduction. Reduce margins or choose a larger paper size if the recipient supports it. If only one table is too wide, export that table separately or use a page-specific print layout instead of shrinking the complete document.
The PDF is readable but the text is microscopic
Restore some scale and remove nonessential columns, navigation and advertisements. A two-page-wide table that remains legible is preferable to a single unreadable page. Consider printing the relevant element or splitting the source into logical sections.
Blank pages appear
Look for oversized fixed-width elements, positioned banners, empty containers or a horizontal scrollbar in the preview. Simplified or clutter-free mode can remove the element causing the extra page. If the source is an application, wait for data and retry after closing overlays.
Colors, logos or chart backgrounds disappear
Enable print backgrounds where the browser offers that control. Do not combine Firefox Simplified format with a requirement for background printing, because Firefox notes that Simplified disables backgrounds. Check whether the color is decorative or conveys data before accepting its removal.

The PDF differs from the screen
This is expected for many sites: print CSS can hide navigation, reflow columns or replace interactive widgets. Use the preview to identify missing information. If an interactive chart has no printable representation, export its underlying data or use a capture workflow designed for rendered pages.

The PDF destination is missing
On a managed device, the administrator may restrict destinations. Check the destination dropdown for a system PDF printer or Save as PDF option, and ask the administrator if none is available. Updating the browser is not guaranteed to change an organization’s policy.
When a repeatable, automated capture is better
Manual printing is ideal for an occasional page. Automation is more consistent for scheduled reports, many URLs, authenticated pages, fixed viewport sizes or PDFs that must use defined paper, margins and page ranges. Keep in mind that a screenshot-oriented capture is not the same as semantic browser printing: choose PDF output when you need pagination, selectable text or print-style margins.

Cost, reliability and workflow choices
- Occasional document: use the browser print dialog; it has no service charge and gives immediate visual feedback.
- Many pages: automate capture and record the URL, date, orientation, paper size, scale and authentication context so another person can reproduce it.
- Unstable pages: wait for a selector or network idle, and use a delay only when necessary. Blocking trackers and ads can reduce clutter but may affect pages that depend on those requests.
- Repeated reports: choose a cache TTL deliberately. Caching can speed repeat requests, while a short TTL is safer for frequently changing data.
- Access-controlled pages: provide cookies, custom headers or Authorization only through a secure secret-management process; never embed credentials in a public URL or repository.
Regardless of method, retain a review step for important documents. Check orientation, page count, clipping, missing images, date ranges and whether the PDF contains the version of the page you intended to archive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create a landscape PDF without installing PDF software?
Yes. Desktop Chrome, Firefox and Edge can send the page to a built-in PDF destination from their Print dialog; a physical printer and separate PDF editor are unnecessary.
Why does landscape still produce several pages?
Landscape increases width but decreases available height. Long pages, print CSS, headers, margins and page-break rules can still create multiple pages.
Is a browser print PDF the same as a screenshot PDF?
No. Browser printing applies print styles and produces paginated, usually selectable content. Screenshot services capture the rendered page and can provide controlled viewport, cleanup and PDF options.

For a one-off document, use Print → PDF → Landscape, then correct scale, paper size and margins while reviewing the preview. For repeatable or high-volume landscape PDFs, automate the capture and preserve a final visual check.
