Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWhen images are missing in Chrome, the cause is usually one of four things: an extension or saved profile data, a blocked site permission or script, a network failure, or a problem on the website itself. Open the same page in an Incognito window and another browser first. Those two tests quickly show whether to repair Chrome or investigate the connection and site.
Start with two tests that identify the fault
Do these before changing settings. They prevent you from “fixing” Chrome when the image server is actually down.
Test the page in Incognito
- Copy the page address and open a new Incognito window with Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+N (macOS).
- Paste the address and wait for the page to finish loading.
If the images appear in Incognito, an extension, stored site data, or a normal-profile setting is interfering. Incognito is an isolation test, not a permanent repair; extensions that are allowed in Incognito can still affect it.
Test the same URL in another browser
Open the exact URL in another installed browser. If images fail there too, focus on the network, DNS, the image host, or the website. Restarting the modem/router can clear a transient connection problem; contact the site owner when only that site remains broken.

Use the failure pattern to choose the right fix
| What you observe | Most likely area | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| One site fails; other sites show images | That site’s permissions, scripts, image host, or server | Check site settings, JavaScript, and mixed-content warnings; test another browser |
| Every site fails in normal Chrome but works in Incognito | Extension conflict or normal-profile data | Disable extensions, then clear the affected site’s data and cache |
| Chrome and another browser both fail | Network, DNS, firewall, or website outage | Try another network, restart the router, and check with the site owner |
| The request is blocked in DevTools | Extension, permission, security policy, or request rule | Identify the blocking source and change only the needed setting |
| The request returns successfully but nothing is visible | Page script, CSS, lazy-loading, or rendering issue | Check JavaScript and console errors; reload after disabling modifiers |
Fix Chrome in the safest order
1. Reload and verify the address
Use Ctrl+R (Windows/Linux) or Command+R (macOS). Confirm that the URL is correct and that it uses the intended domain. A typo, redirected page, or expired link can look like a missing-image problem.
2. Disable extensions one at a time
Open ⋮ → Extensions → Manage extensions, then switch off ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, image optimizers, and other content modifiers. Reload the page after each change. When images return, re-enable extensions individually until the conflicting one is identified. Keep unrelated extensions enabled rather than turning everything off permanently.
3. Clear cached files and site data
For a single site, click the tune or lock icon to the left of the address, open Site settings, choose Delete data (if shown), and reload. For a broader cleanup, open ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data. Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, choose an appropriate time range, and delete the data. This removes stale or corrupted responses that can prevent images from loading, but it may sign you out of websites.

4. Confirm JavaScript is allowed
Many modern pages insert images with JavaScript. Open chrome://settings/content/javascript and make sure sites are allowed to use JavaScript. If only one domain is affected, check its entry under Not allowed to use JavaScript and remove it or change the permission. You can also open the page’s Site settings and set JavaScript to Allow, then reload.
5. Review insecure-content permission carefully
Chrome blocks insecure embedded content on secure pages by default. An HTTPS page that tries to load an HTTP image can therefore show a broken image while the rest of the page opens. On a site you trust, open the address-bar icon, choose Site settings, find Insecure content, and allow it temporarily for diagnosis. Reload and test. If that restores the images, the durable fix belongs to the website: its image URLs should be served over HTTPS. Do not enable insecure content globally or for unfamiliar sites.
Check whether Chrome is under resource or hardware pressure
Memory pressure
Large pages can discard or delay image resources when Chrome is low on memory. Close unused tabs and applications, then reload. If the problem appears only on very large pages, compare a fresh tab with the original page before changing advanced settings.

Hardware acceleration
If images disappear, flicker, or render as blank areas across otherwise healthy pages, test Chrome’s graphics path. Open ⋮ → Settings → System, switch off Use graphics acceleration when available, select Relaunch, and test again. If there is no improvement, restore the original setting; disabling acceleration can reduce graphics performance.
Unwanted software or a damaged profile
When Incognito works, extensions are off, site data is cleared, and another browser succeeds but normal Chrome still fails, suspect a damaged profile or unwanted software. Remove extensions you do not recognize, update Chrome, and test with a new Chrome profile. Reinstalling Chrome or rebuilding the profile is an escalation step, not a first response; back up bookmarks and confirm that synced data is available before removing a profile.
Use DevTools to see what happened to the image request
DevTools distinguishes a request that was blocked from one that reached a server and failed.

- Open the page, press F12 (or Command+Option+I on macOS), and select Network.
- Reload while DevTools is open. Filter by Img or type part of the image filename.
- Inspect the request’s status, response headers, and Initiator. A blocked request is marked as blocked; a failed request may show a network error or an HTTP status such as 403 or 404.
- Check the Disable cache box only while DevTools remains open if you need to rule out caching.
A 404 generally means the file is missing at that path; a 403 can indicate access control or hotlink protection; a request blocked before it receives a response points more strongly to Chrome, an extension, or a security policy. DevTools can also reveal throttling or request-blocking conditions that were enabled for testing.
When the website or network is responsible
The image host is unavailable
If the same image URL fails in Chrome, Incognito, and another browser, the origin server, CDN, DNS, or network may be unavailable. Try a different network, such as a phone hotspot, to separate a local connection problem from a site outage.
The page uses an expired or protected URL
Some sites generate short-lived image links or require a logged-in session. A stale tab can retain an expired URL. Sign in again, open a fresh copy of the page, or ask the site owner whether access controls changed.

Only certain images are absent
Selective failures often indicate lazy loading, a script error, an image-format issue, or a server rule affecting particular paths. The Network panel shows whether those individual requests were sent and what each returned; this is more useful than repeatedly clearing all browsing data.

- Reload and verify the URL.
- Compare normal Chrome with Incognito.
- Disable extensions individually, starting with blockers and privacy tools.
- Clear the site’s cookies and cached files, then reload.
- Allow JavaScript for the affected site.
- Inspect Insecure content only on a trusted site and only for diagnosis.
- Compare another browser and, if needed, another network.
- Use DevTools → Network to classify blocked, failed, or successful requests.
- Test hardware acceleration only after the earlier checks.
- Escalate to a new profile or Chrome reinstall when the failure is Chrome-specific and persistent.

If your goal is to obtain a reliable image of a webpage rather than repair the page in Chrome, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one request. Before capture it accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options, including full-page and element captures, device presets, retina scale, dark mode, PDF paper sizes and page ranges, custom CSS or JavaScript, clicks, waits, blocking rules, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting, and the OpenAPI specification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do broken-image icons appear only after I sign in?
Login can change the image URL, cookies, or authorization used by the page. Compare a signed-in and signed-out request in DevTools and test a fresh tab; the site owner may need to repair its protected image endpoint.
Can an antivirus program stop images from loading?
Yes, web filtering can block image requests, but confirm the pattern first. If Incognito and another browser fail in the same way, temporarily test with the security product’s web filter disabled according to its documentation, then restore protection.
Should I reset all Chrome settings immediately?
No. Incognito, extension isolation, site-data cleanup, JavaScript permissions, and DevTools provide more specific evidence. A full reset removes custom settings and should be reserved for a persistent Chrome-profile problem.
