To convert one web image to a PDF, open the image by itself in a browser tab, open the browser’s print dialog, choose Save as PDF (or your operating system’s PDF printer), then save the file. Opening the image separately prevents the surrounding webpage from being printed.
Choose the right conversion method
There are two different jobs people call “converting a web image to PDF”:
- Single-image PDF: only the JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, or TIFF image should appear in the PDF. Open the image itself before printing.
- Webpage PDF: the page, text, navigation, and possibly several images should be preserved. Print the webpage instead; its print layout can differ from what you see on screen.
For a single image, browser printing is usually the shortest local method and does not require an extra converter application. Mozilla specifically recommends opening an image in its own tab before printing, while Chrome supports printing a page, image, or file and selecting Save as PDF (Mozilla; Google Chrome Help).
Convert a web image in Chrome
- Navigate to the page containing the image.
- Right-click the image and choose Open image in new tab, Open image in new window, or the equivalent wording. If that option is unavailable, open the image’s direct URL in a new tab.
- With only the image displayed, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or open Chrome’s menu and choose Print.
- In the print dialog, set Destination to Save as PDF. Do not select a physical printer.
- Review paper size, orientation, margins, scale, and whether the preview contains anything besides the image.
- Click Save, choose a folder and filename ending in
.pdf, and confirm.
If Chrome shows a system print window instead of its preview, choose the operating system’s PDF destination there. The exact labels vary by operating-system version.

Convert a web image in Firefox
- Right-click the image and select Open Image in New Tab.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS.
- In print preview, select Save to PDF or another PDF destination.
- Set page orientation and scaling, then save the file.
Firefox notes that printed pages may not look exactly like their onscreen versions. Opening the image directly is therefore important when you want a clean, single-image PDF.
Save the image as a PDF on Windows
Windows includes a PDF printer on current versions. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau documents this path:
- Open the image by itself in Chrome, Firefox, Photos, or another application that can print.
- Open Print (usually Ctrl+P).
- Choose Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF as the printer.
- Set paper size, orientation, margins, and scaling.
- Select Print, enter a filename, choose a location, and save.
Some older Windows installations may not include Microsoft Print to PDF. In that case, use a browser’s Save as PDF destination or install a PDF printer approved by your organization.
Save the image as a PDF on macOS
- Open the direct image in a browser tab or an image viewer.
- Press Command+P.
- In the macOS print dialog, open the PDF menu in the lower-left corner.
- Choose Save as PDF.
- Enter a filename and location, optionally add a title or password, and click Save.
If the image is larger than the paper, reduce the scale or choose landscape orientation. If it is tall, portrait orientation usually uses the page more efficiently.

Use an online converter
Adobe’s online JPG-to-PDF tool documents support for JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF. Its basic workflow is to open the converter, upload the image, and convert it (Adobe’s online image converter).
- Open the converter website.
- Upload or drag in the image.
- Start conversion and download the resulting PDF.
- Open the PDF and check the page count, orientation, and image quality.
An online workflow sends the image to a service. The cited Adobe page establishes the supported formats and conversion flow, but it does not establish a detailed privacy or retention guarantee. Do not upload confidential, regulated, or copyrighted material unless your organization permits that service.
Control size, orientation, and quality
Fit versus original scale
Fit to page makes the entire image visible but may leave white margins. A scale above 100 percent can crop edges. Use the print preview to confirm that no subject, caption, or border is clipped.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Portrait or landscape
Choose portrait for tall images and landscape for wide images. Automatic orientation is convenient, but manually verify the preview when the image’s proportions are unusual.
Margins and paper
Smaller margins provide more image area, while standard margins are safer for printers and physical filing. Select the required paper size before saving if the PDF will be printed elsewhere.

Resolution and compression
Printing to PDF generally preserves the source image’s available detail, but a low-resolution source cannot be made sharper. If a converter offers quality or compression controls, retain the original for archiving and use a compressed copy for email or web delivery.
Print the whole webpage instead
If you need the page as evidence or a record, stay on the webpage rather than opening only the image. Use Print, select a PDF destination, and inspect the preview. Web-to-PDF tools can expose layout controls such as image inclusion and other page-conversion settings; Adobe documents these options for Acrobat (Adobe web-to-PDF settings). This route may include headers, menus, advertisements, and responsive reflow. If those elements are unwanted, return to the single-image method.
Or skip the browser setup
For automated captures, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API. A GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, and its clean-shot process accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed as clean shots; response headers identify the page verdict and billing result.
Use the API documentation at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/. This cURL example requests a PDF by adding the appropriate output parameter from the documented API:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The supplied command saves the response as shot.webp; when requesting PDF output, use a filename ending in .pdf and the PDF output option documented for the endpoint.
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo also offers an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Every plan includes features such as full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, headers, cookies, user agents, geolocation, PDF page settings, signed links, asynchronous jobs, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, and a usage API. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Troubleshooting
The PDF contains the entire webpage
You printed the page rather than the image. Open the image in a new tab and print again.
The image is cut off
Choose Fit to page, reduce scale, switch orientation, or select a larger paper size. Confirm the preview before saving.
The PDF is blank
Wait for the image to finish loading, reload the direct image URL, and print again. A failed or blocked image request cannot produce useful output.
The PDF looks different from the screen
Print styles can change colors, spacing, and visibility. Firefox explicitly warns that printed pages may differ from onscreen pages. Use the direct-image tab and inspect print preview.
The online converter rejects the file
Check that the input is one of the documented formats, such as JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, or TIFF. For unsupported or sensitive files, convert locally through your operating system’s PDF printer.

Quick decision checklist
- Need only one image? Open it in its own tab and print to PDF.
- Need the surrounding article or evidence? Print the webpage instead.
- Need to avoid uploading a sensitive file? Use local Windows or macOS printing.
- Need repeatable, automated captures? Use ScreenshotNeo’s API or MCP tools.
- Need a predictable result? Check orientation, scale, margins, and the saved PDF before sharing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a screenshot to PDF?
Yes. Open the screenshot in an image viewer or browser and use the operating system’s print-to-PDF destination.
Will converting change the original image?
The original image remains separate; the PDF is a new file. Keep the original if you may need a different size or format later.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I put several images in one PDF?
Use an image-to-PDF application or an online converter that explicitly supports multiple files. The single-image browser method creates one printed page at a time.
