Short answer: MacBook’s built-in screenshot shortcuts capture the visible display, a window, or a selected area—they do not automatically scroll through a webpage. To capture an entire page as one image, use a browser full-page feature such as a Chrome extension or a Safari app. If you need an archive rather than an image, Safari can save the page as a Web Archive or Page Source.
What a MacBook screenshot can—and cannot—capture
Apple Support documents three standard capture forms: the whole screen (Shift-Command-3), a selected region (Shift-Command-4), and a window or menu (press Shift-Command-4, then press Space). Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app, where you can choose capture or recording controls, a timer, and the save location. Screenshots normally save to the desktop unless you change that location.
These controls photograph what is currently visible. They are not the same as a scrolling or full-page webpage capture. A long article, dashboard, or terms page must be captured by software that scrolls and stitches the page, or by a service that renders the URL remotely.
Fastest do-it-yourself method in Chrome
Install a full-page extension
- Open the Chrome Web Store and find the current listing for GoFullPage.
- Review the listing’s requested permissions and compatibility, then choose Add to Chrome and confirm.
- Open the webpage you want to capture. Let visible content finish loading; expand accordions or trigger content that only appears after an interaction.
- Click the GoFullPage extension icon. The extension scrolls through the page and builds one long capture.
- Use the result page to download an image or PDF, then open the file to check that the bottom of the page and lazy-loaded images are present.
GoFullPage is a third-party Chrome extension, not a macOS feature. Its store listing describes full-page capture and image/PDF downloads, but no extension can guarantee correct results for every cross-origin frame, virtualized list, animation, or dynamically changing page. Keep the official listing open for current permissions and support details.

When Chrome captures only part of a page
- Scroll the page manually once so lazy content loads, then run the capture again.
- Close sticky chat panels, cookie dialogs, or menus that obscure content; these can become part of the image.
- Try the page in a normal tab rather than a private or restricted context.
- For an infinite-scroll feed, stop loading at the point you need; there may be no finite “bottom” to capture.
Capture a full webpage in Safari
Use a Safari full-page app
The Mac App Store listing for FireShot: Web Page Screenshots describes full-page, visible-part, and custom-selection modes for Safari on Mac. It is third-party software, so check the live listing for the macOS versions it supports, current price or in-app purchase terms, permissions, and the exact features offered before installing.
- Install FireShot from its current Mac App Store listing.
- Open the target page in Safari and wait for images, charts, and other dynamic elements to load.
- Start FireShot from Safari’s extension controls or the app’s documented workflow.
- Select the full-page mode, review the generated image or PDF, and save it where you can find it.
Safari extensions may require explicit permission to read webpage content. If the extension icon is missing, open Safari’s settings and enable the extension, then reload the page.
Safari’s built-in alternative: save the page, not a screenshot
If your real goal is to preserve the page for later reading, Safari supports File > Save As, then Web Archive or Page Source. A Web Archive stores page content such as graphics and working links while the destination remains available; Page Source stores the HTML source. These are page-saving formats, not one tall screenshot image, and some websites may prevent saving particular items.

Troubleshooting a scrolling screenshot
The capture stops at the first screen
You used a normal macOS shortcut or a browser’s visible-area command. Use a full-page extension/app or the ScreenshotNeo API instead.
The bottom is missing
Check whether the page uses an inner scroll panel rather than the document itself. Scroll that panel first, or capture its CSS-selected element with a tool that supports element capture. Infinite-scroll pages may never expose a final bottom.
Images or charts are blank
Wait for lazy loading, disable aggressive content blocking for that site, and repeat the capture after scrolling through the page once. Content inside embedded frames can have separate restrictions.

A Safari extension does nothing
Confirm the extension is enabled in Safari settings, grant webpage access when prompted, reload the tab, and verify that the app’s current listing supports your macOS release.
A page contains a cookie banner, popup, or chat bubble

Quality and file-management checklist
- Confirm the URL and wait for fonts, images, and data-driven widgets to finish loading.
- Close transient overlays and ensure the page is at the desired scroll state.
- Choose PNG for crisp text, JPEG for smaller photographic files, WebP for a compact modern image, or PDF when printing and page ranges matter.
- Open the saved result at 100% and inspect the top, middle, and final sections.
- For sensitive pages, review extension permissions and avoid sending private content to an external API unless your organization permits it.
- Retain the original URL and capture date alongside the file; dynamic pages can change after capture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a scrolling screenshot of a non-web app on MacBook?
The methods here target webpages. macOS’s documented Screenshot controls capture the screen, a window, or a region; they do not provide a general scrolling mode for arbitrary applications.
Will a full-page capture include content behind a login?
Only if the capture environment has valid access. A browser extension can use your current session, while an API requires supported cookies or authentication headers and permission to access the page.
Should I save a Web Archive or take a screenshot for evidence?
Use a screenshot when the visual layout is the evidence. Use a Web Archive when preserving links and page resources for later inspection matters more than a single image.
