Use Firefox’s built-in Take Screenshot command on a computer, macOS Screenshot shortcuts for Safari on a Mac, and the iPhone screenshot editor’s Full Page option for an entire Safari webpage. Firefox can save or copy a selected region, a detected page part, the visible viewport, or the full page. Safari on Mac uses screen, selection, and window captures; Safari on iPhone can extend a capture beyond the display to the whole scrollable page.
This guide gives the exact controls for each platform, explains when Firefox DevTools is more precise, separates Safari’s Web Archive export from an image screenshot, and shows an automated alternative when you need repeatable captures.

Capture a webpage in Firefox desktop
Firefox’s built-in tool is the quickest way to make a page-level image. Mozilla Support describes it as a way to capture visible parts of webpages or even full webpages and then copy or save those images.
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. On a Mac, Control-click if a normal right-click is not available. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose the capture mode that matches your goal:
- Custom region: drag around an exact rectangle.
- Automatically highlighted page part: point at a detected heading, image, card, or other page section and select it.
- Save full page: capture content beyond the current viewport.
- Save visible: capture only what is currently visible in the browser window.
- Select Download to save the image in Firefox’s normal download folder, or select Copy to put it on the clipboard.
- Press Escape if you opened the tool but want to cancel without capturing.
Add Screenshot to the Firefox toolbar
If you use the command regularly, open Menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar and add Screenshot to the toolbar. This gives you a visible control instead of requiring a context menu or keyboard shortcut.

Make a full-page capture more reliable
- Wait until the page has finished rendering before starting the capture. A page that is still replacing placeholders can produce an image of that intermediate state.
- For pages with expandable sections, open the sections you need first; the tool captures the rendered page state.
- Use Save visible when you need the exact viewport shown to a user, and Save full page when content below the fold matters.
- Use Copy for a quick paste into a document or chat. Use Download when you need a file that can be renamed, archived, or attached later.
Use Firefox DevTools for full-page or single-element precision
DevTools is useful when the ordinary page menu is unavailable or when you need one exact DOM element rather than a screen rectangle.
Enable the full-page screenshot button
- Open Firefox DevTools.
- Open DevTools settings and locate Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Click the new camera-style button in the DevTools toolbar. Firefox saves the capture to your Downloads folder.
Capture one element with Screenshot Node
- Open DevTools and choose Inspector.
- Find the element in the HTML pane.
- Context-click the element and choose Screenshot Node.
- Find the resulting image in Downloads.
This method targets the element’s DOM box, so it avoids the uncertainty of dragging around a visually similar area. It is the better choice for a component, banner, table, or card whose boundaries must be exact.
Take a screenshot of Safari on a Mac
Safari on macOS uses the system Screenshot commands. Prepare the Safari window, then use the shortcut that describes the area you want.

Find, copy, or relocate the Mac image
By default, macOS places screenshots on the desktop with a name such as Screen Shot [date] at [time]. The options opened by Shift+Command+5 can change the destination. Control-click the thumbnail that appears after capture when you need to copy it or choose another action.

Do not confuse Save As with a screenshot
Safari’s File > Save As offers Web Archive and Page Source. A Web Archive preserves webpage content such as graphics and links, while Page Source saves the HTML. Neither is a screenshot image. Choose a macOS Screenshot command when the deliverable must be a PNG, JPEG, or other image rather than an editable or archivable page copy.
The Mac shortcuts above capture screen geometry: a display, rectangle, or window. They do not provide a scrolling, full-webpage image. If you need every section of a long Safari page as one image, use the iPhone Full Page workflow when the page is being viewed on an iPhone, or use an automated webpage capture service such as ScreenshotNeo below.
Capture an entire Safari webpage on iPhone
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- On an iPhone without a Home button, press and quickly release the Side button and Volume Up button together. On a Home-button model, press and quickly release Side and Home.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears.
- At the top of the editor, choose Full Page. Safari expands the capture beyond the display to include the scrollable webpage.
- Use the handles to crop the page if required, then save or share it from the editor.
The normal screenshot is still useful for a single viewport. Full Page is the choice when content below the current screen must be included in one capture.

Browser screenshot troubleshooting
Firefox does not show Take Screenshot
- Right-click an empty part of the page rather than a link, image, or form control, then try again.
- Use the platform shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- If you use the feature often, add Screenshot through Menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar.
The full-page result is incomplete
- Wait for the page to finish rendering before invoking Save full page.
- Scroll or interact with expandable content first if the page only inserts that content after interaction.
- Use DevTools’ Take a screenshot of the entire page button as an alternative.
You need one component, not a rectangle
Open Inspector, select the element in the HTML pane, and use Screenshot Node. This avoids including neighboring content.

Use Shift+Command+4 for a rectangle, or press Space after that shortcut to switch to a window capture. If you need timing or destination controls, open the Screenshot app with Shift+Command+5.
You cannot find a full-page option in Safari on Mac
The listed macOS commands capture a screen, selection, or window. They do not expose the iPhone editor’s Full Page control. Use the iPhone workflow for a scrollable Safari page image or an automated capture service.

The iPhone screenshot is only the visible screen
Tap the thumbnail immediately after taking the screenshot and select Full Page in the editor. If you save or share before opening the editor, you keep the ordinary viewport capture.

Practical settings for a long webpage
- Request full-page mode so content below the fold is included.
- Use a selector wait or network-idle wait when the page fills content asynchronously.
- Enable lazy-image loading if images appear only while scrolling.
- Hide fixed chat buttons, newsletter overlays, or other selectors if you have chosen not to use the automatic cleanup.
- Set a viewport or device preset and retina scale so later captures use the same dimensions.
- Use a cache TTL for stable pages; a cache hit is identified in the response and is not billed.

The command writes an unexpected file
Check the requested output format and the filename extension. The endpoint can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; make the extension and your chosen format agree.
The request fails before an image is returned
- Replace
YOUR_API_KEYwith the key from your account. - Ensure the target URL is URL-encoded. The cURL example uses
--data-urlencode; in Python and Node.js, the request library handles the query parameters. - Confirm that your client allows enough time for the page. The Python example uses a 90-second timeout.
- Inspect
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedwhen a response is received; they explain whether the result was a clean shot, a cache hit, or a non-billable failure category.
The page contains overlays or consent UI
Leave the consent, popup, and chat cleanup steps enabled.
