In WPS Writer, Spreadsheet, or Presentation, open your file and select Insert > Screenshot. Choose a capture shape, drag over the area you want, then click Done to insert it. WPS Office Academy also lists Ctrl+Alt+X as a shortcut, but menus and shortcuts can vary by WPS component, platform, and version. If you are using WPS Teams or Slides, the capture steps are different.
Take a screenshot in Writer, Spreadsheet, or Presentation
The built-in Screenshot command is intended to capture part of your screen and place the result in the open WPS document. WPS Office Academy uses Writer in its tutorial and says the same procedure applies to Spreadsheet and Presentation.
- Open the document, workbook, or presentation in WPS Office.
- Select Insert > Screenshot.
- Choose a capture shape: rectangle, oval, rounded rectangle, or polygon.
- Drag across the area of the screen you want to capture.
- Click Done. WPS inserts the captured image into the current file.
For a rectangular selection, drag from one corner of the target area to the opposite corner. For an oval, rounded rectangle, or polygon, follow the on-screen selection outline; the shape controls the captured image boundary. Keep the target visible before you start and include a little margin if labels or edges matter. The capture is an image in the document, not a live copy of the underlying window or text.
Use the keyboard shortcut
WPS Office Academy lists Ctrl+Alt+X as the Screenshot shortcut. Try it while the WPS file is open. If it does not launch capture in your installation, use Insert > Screenshot instead and check the visible command in your build. Shortcuts may differ across WPS components and versions, and the tutorial does not establish one shortcut for every platform.

Hide the WPS window before capturing
If you need to capture content that is behind the document you are editing, WPS documents a Hide current window when screenshot option. It also lists Screen Grab Main Window and the hide-window shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C. These controls are useful when the open WPS window would otherwise cover the area you want.
Look for the hide-window option in the screenshot controls in your version of WPS. If it is available, enable it before selecting the target area. The exact placement of the control can vary, so rely on the label shown in your interface rather than assuming it appears in the same place in every release. If the shortcut does not work, return to the menu or screenshot controls and invoke the option there.
Capture a screen area in WPS Teams for Windows
WPS Teams has a separate capture workflow for sharing a screenshot in a chat. The official guide, last updated July 23, 2026, documents this procedure for Windows.

- Open the message editor in the chat.
- Click the scissors icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+A.
- Drag to select the screen area you want to share.
- Use the available annotation tools if needed: rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow, brush, text, or mosaic.
- Choose Save or Extract Text if that is what you need, or click the checkmark to confirm and place the result in the chat input box.
The checkmark places the capture in the message composer; it does not, by itself, send the chat message. Review the selected area and any annotations, then send the message using the chat controls when you are ready. If you only want to save a copy or extract text, choose the corresponding option instead of confirming it into the chat input.
Capture a screen area in WPS Slides
WPS uses a different command name in Slides: the official path is Insert > Screen Capture. The WPS Slides help page was last updated July 13, 2026.
- Open the presentation and select the slide where the capture should go.
- Choose Insert > Screen Capture.
- Select a capture method from the options shown.
- Drag over the target area.
WPS inserts the captured image into the current slide automatically. This differs from the Writer, Spreadsheet, and Presentation tutorial’s Insert > Screenshot flow, which ends by asking you to click Done. If you do not see Screen Capture, confirm that you are in the Slides interface and check the commands available in your installed version.

Which WPS capture method should you use?
| Where you are working | How to start | What happens after capture |
|---|---|---|
| Writer, Spreadsheet, or Presentation | Insert > Screenshot, or the listed Ctrl+Alt+X shortcut | Choose a shape, select the area, then click Done to insert the image. |
| WPS Teams chat on Windows | Message-editor scissors icon, or Ctrl+Shift+A | Annotate, save, extract text, or confirm the capture into the chat input. |
| WPS Slides | Insert > Screen Capture | Select a method and area; the image goes onto the current slide automatically. |
| Windows desktop outside WPS | Open Windows Snipping Tool | Capture a snip for editing, saving, or sharing in Snipping Tool. |
Names and behavior are specific to the WPS component described. Do not assume a Teams shortcut or Slides menu label will also work in Writer, or that a command shown in one WPS version is present in another.
Use Windows Snipping Tool if WPS cannot capture the area
Microsoft’s Snipping Tool can capture freeform, rectangular, window, full-screen, and video snips. Microsoft says captures are copied into Snipping Tool for editing, saving, and sharing. It is a practical fallback when WPS’s capture command is unavailable or you need a different selection mode.
- Open Snipping Tool from Windows.
- Choose the snip mode that matches the target: freeform, rectangle, window, full screen, or video.
- Make the capture and review it in Snipping Tool.
- Edit, save, or share it from there.
- If you need it in a WPS file, use the image insertion controls in that WPS component to add the saved capture.
WPS’s own selection tools are more direct when the goal is to put a capture into the active document or slide. Snipping Tool is more flexible about screen-wide capture modes, but it is a separate Windows utility rather than a WPS command.

If your actual task is to capture a website rather than the WPS desktop or a local document, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It does not capture the local WPS window; it takes screenshots or PDFs of URLs. One GET request is enough to request an image. The following cURL example saves a WebP response:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python equivalent:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js equivalent:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the page you need and provide your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up free for 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
Troubleshooting WPS screenshots
The shortcut does nothing
Use the menu route for your component: Insert > Screenshot in Writer, Spreadsheet, or Presentation; Insert > Screen Capture in Slides; or the scissors icon in Teams. WPS documents different shortcut combinations for different capture contexts, so a shortcut listed for one component may not apply to another.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The wrong screen area is captured
Before dragging, make sure the intended content is visible and not covered by the WPS window or another window. In a supported WPS capture workflow, use Hide current window when screenshot if the open document is obscuring the target. If you need an entire window or full screen rather than a shaped region, Windows Snipping Tool offers those modes.

The capture is not where you expected
Check which component you used. In Writer, Spreadsheet, or Presentation, click Done to insert the selected image. In Slides, the image is inserted automatically into the current slide. In Teams, the checkmark puts it in the chat input box; it does not complete the same action as saving or sending.
A command or option is missing
Verify that you are following instructions for the right WPS product and platform. The cited Teams guide is for Windows, and menu names differ between the documented Slides and document workflows. Look for the command in the visible ribbon or capture controls in your build; if it is not available, use Snipping Tool on Windows and insert the resulting image into WPS.
Practical capture tips
- Choose the correct destination first: an open document, the current slide, or a Teams message composer.
- Use a shaped WPS selection when you want a cropped region directly in a document; use Snipping Tool when you need window, full-screen, or video capture modes.
- For text that must remain selectable or editable, prefer the original document content over a screenshot. A screenshot is an image; Teams separately lists an Extract Text option.
- Review the captured area before sharing it, especially when a selection includes content outside the intended document or chat context.
WPS’s built-in commands cover the usual workflow: select the relevant capture tool, mark the screen area, then insert, save, or place the result where it belongs. When a menu or shortcut does not match, use the component-specific path above rather than assuming every WPS app captures the same way.
