To fit a webpage on one PDF page, open the browser’s print preview, choose a PDF destination, then adjust the page size, orientation and Scale until the preview shows one page. Check that the required content is present and readable before saving. If scaling makes the page too small, use a multi-page PDF instead: one-page output is not always practical for a long webpage.
Fit a webpage onto one PDF page
The key setting is Scale, not Pages per sheet. Scale shrinks or enlarges the webpage’s printed layout; Pages per sheet places multiple already-rendered pages on one physical PDF page. The latter does not turn a long webpage into one reflowed, readable page.
- Open the webpage and its print preview. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. You can also open Print from the browser menu or, where available, the page’s right-click menu. In Firefox, open the menu and choose Print.
- Choose Save to PDF or the equivalent PDF destination. Firefox lists Save to PDF in the Destination menu. The exact label and available destinations depend on the browser, operating system and version.
- Choose the paper size intended for the final file, such as Letter or A4 where offered. Set portrait for a tall, narrow layout or landscape for content that is wider than it is tall.
- Open the additional print settings and adjust Scale. In Edge, try Fit to printable area or enter a custom percentage. Firefox exposes Scale in More settings. Continue until the preview indicates one page.
- Review the preview for missing edges, omitted content and legibility. Save only when the page count and content meet your needs.
Microsoft Edge’s print guidance describes its print controls and recommends previewing scaled output. Mozilla’s Firefox guidance documents the PDF destination and print settings. Browser labels can change between releases, and webpages can define their own print appearance, so the preview is the authority for your particular page.

Paper size and orientation
Paper size determines the page dimensions available to the printed content. Use the size intended for sharing or printing rather than assuming that the default is right. Orientation changes the usable shape: landscape can reduce the amount a wide table or layout must shrink, while portrait often suits ordinary article text. Neither setting guarantees one page; verify the preview after changing it.

Scale
Scale is the main control for reducing the rendered webpage to a single sheet. “Fit to printable area” can help when the content spills beyond the page’s printable bounds. A custom percentage gives you more direct control if the fit option is unavailable or the result is not what you want.
Reducing scale also reduces text and images. A very long page may technically fit but become difficult to read at normal viewing size. There is no universally correct percentage: the needed value depends on the webpage’s print layout, selected paper and orientation. Check both the page count and the actual text size in the preview or saved PDF.
Margins, headers, footers and backgrounds
If content is clipped or the scale must become uncomfortably small, try narrower margins to gain usable page area. Turn off headers and footers if you do not need browser-added details such as a page title, address or date. Enable background graphics only when the page’s colors or background images carry information you need; otherwise, omitting them may produce a less cluttered result. Firefox and Edge expose versions of these controls, though names and availability vary.

Reader and simplified views
Navigation, advertisements and other surrounding elements can take up space or distract from the material. Firefox offers Simplified format in supported cases; Edge’s Immersive Reader may also be available for some pages. These views can change what is included in the printout, so open print preview again after enabling one and check that the material you need remains there.

A one-page preview is necessary but not sufficient: it can still omit content, clip an edge or make text too small. Inspect the full preview, then open the saved PDF at normal viewing size. Confirm that the page count is one, the required text and images are present, and nothing important has been cut off.
- For a compact reference: one page may be suitable if the text remains comfortable to read.
- For a long article or detailed instructions: a multi-page PDF usually preserves legibility better than extreme scaling.
- For a specific passage: print only the relevant selection if the browser offers that option, rather than compressing the entire page.
- For a wide chart or table: try landscape and a suitable paper size before reducing scale further.
A PDF destination saves a digital file; you do not need a physical printer, paper, ink or toner to create it.

Troubleshoot common one-page PDF problems
The preview still shows more than one page
- Make sure the destination is Save to PDF or its equivalent, then change Scale rather than Pages per sheet.
- Try Fit to printable area or a lower custom scale, and check the page count again.
- Try landscape for wide content, or select a paper size that better matches the intended output.
- Reduce margins and disable headers or footers if they consume space.
The page fits, but the text is too small
This is the main trade-off of forcing long content onto one sheet. Try a reader or simplified view to remove peripheral material, or print only the relevant selection. If the necessary content still cannot fit at a readable size, save a multi-page PDF instead of treating one-page output as a requirement worth sacrificing legibility for.
Content is cut off at an edge
Check the preview, choose Fit to printable area if offered, and try narrower margins or the other orientation. Some webpages specify their own print appearance, so settings that work for one page may not work for another. If the page remains clipped, a lower scale may help, but verify that the result remains readable.
Ads or navigation dominate the printout
Try the browser’s simplified or reader view if it is available for that page, then reopen print preview. The available content can change when a reader view is applied; confirm that the page still contains what you intend to save.

The PDF looks different from the webpage
Print preview shows the webpage’s print rendition, which can differ from its on-screen appearance. A site may omit or rearrange material for printing. Review the preview and saved file rather than assuming that the PDF will reproduce the browser window exactly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use browser print or a separate tool?
For an ordinary webpage that needs to become a PDF, start with the browser’s built-in print preview: it provides a PDF destination and the relevant controls without requiring another tool. A page-editing add-on may be worth considering only if you need to alter or remove webpage elements before printing; Mozilla’s Firefox guidance names an add-on example, but an add-on is not necessary for the basic workflow.
For a digital capture rather than a browser-generated printout, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its documented capabilities include image capture and PDF output, but an API capture is not the same as checking a browser’s print preview: use the browser workflow above when your priority is ensuring the webpage’s print rendition fits a page. For PDF output details and supported options, consult the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

If a screenshot or PDF capture suits your use case, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in one GET request. This cURL example saves the returned screenshot as a WebP file:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The equivalent Python request is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
And in Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the webpage you want to capture. The supplied examples request a WebP screenshot; ScreenshotNeo also supports PDF output, with its options documented in the API docs.

Does making a PDF fit on one page change the original webpage?
No. The print settings affect the PDF rendition, not the webpage itself.
Will the same scale percentage work on every webpage?
Not necessarily. The page’s print layout, paper size, orientation and margins affect the result, so confirm the preview for each page.
